Audio playback method and apparatus using line array speaker unit

A multi-channel audio system is constituted using at least one line array speaker unit, in which plural speakers are arrayed in line, wherein the same audio signal is supplied with a prescribed delay time to each of the speakers, thus forming plural sound beams. The plural sound beams are reflected on a wall surface and a ceiling of a room so as to form plural virtual sound sources surrounding a listening position, and emission directions and intensities of the sound beams are controlled so as to localize a phantom at a prescribed position based on the plural virtual sound sources. By appropriately arranging plural line array speaker units horizontally, vertically, and slantingly in such a way that each line array speaker unit forms sound beams distributed and spread in a sectorial form, it is possible to realize a surround audio system having a high degree of freedom with regard to setup positions for forming virtual sound sources.

Method and apparatus to create a sound field

The invention generally relates to a method and apparatus for taking an input signal, replicating it a number of times and modifying each of the replicas before routing them to respective output transducers such that a desired sound field is created. This sound field may comprise a directed beam, focussed beam or a simulated origin. In a first aspect, delays are added to sound channels to remove the effects of different travelling distances. In a second aspect, a delay is added to a video signal to account for the delays added to the sound channels. In a third aspect, different window functions are applied to each channel to give improved flexibility of use. In a fourth aspect, a smaller extent of transducers is used top output high frequencies than are used to output low frequencies. An array having a larger density of transducers near the centre is also provided. In a fifth aspect, a line of elongate transducers is provided to give good directivity in a plane. In a sixth aspect, sound beams are focussed in front or behind surfaces to give different beam widths and simulated origins. In a seventh aspect, a camera is used to indicate where sound is directed.

Set-up method for array-type sound system

There is disclosed a method for setting up a Sound Projector such that it is suitable for a variety of functions, including surround sound. The method allows a semi-automatic or automatic set-up to be accomplished whereby the Sound Projector emits test signals and these are received by one or more microphones in order to detect the position and angles of the major reflecting surfaces in the room. In a preferred embodiment, the room is scanned by a moving directional sound beam and the first reflection of said sound beam is detected at a microphone in order to determine the distance of the reflective surfaces from the Sound Projector for all or most possible angles of sound beams.

At each listening position, at least one array of speaker elements is provided. A filter is provided between the at least one source and at least one of the speaker elements at a first listening position. The filter is optimized so that the filter reduces acoustic energy radiated from the first array to at least one other listening position of the plurality of listening positions, compared to acoustic energy radiated from the first array to the first listening position.

Method and system for surround sound beam-forming using vertically displaced drivers

A method and system for surround sound beam-forming using vertically displaced drivers provides a low cost alternative to present external surround array systems. A pair of vertically displaced speaker drivers is supplied with surround and main channel information in a controlled phase relationship with respect to each driver such that the surround channel information is propagated in a directivity pattern substantially differing from that of the main channel information. The main channel information is generally directed at a listening area, while the surround channel information is directed away from the listening area and is substantially attenuated in the direction of the listening area, so that the surround channel information is heard as a diffuse reflected field. An electronic network provides for control of the surround channel phase relationship and combining of main and surround signals for providing inputs to individual power amplifiers for each driver.

Speaker Array Apparatus and Method for Setting Audio Beams of Speaker Array Apparatus

There is provided a loudspeaker array device which has a large freedom of installation place and whose sound beam can easily be set by a user. A method for setting the sound beam of the loudspeaker array device is also provided. The loudspeaker array device (1) makes the sound beam formed by the audio signal limited to the band where the angle of the sound beam can be adjusted, sweep from 0 to 180 degrees in the front of the loudspeaker array (10) and the direct sound and the reflected sound of the sound beam are collected by a non-directional microphone (2). The collected sound data is analyzed to detect a peak equal to or above a threshold value. Symmetry of each peak is checked. When symmetry is present, the angle at which the peak has been detected is set as the angle for outputting the sound beam for each channel of the surround sound. Thus, according to the shape of the room where the loud-speaker array device is installed and the installation position, it is possible to set the sound beam emission angle at an optimal position.

Speaker System

A speaker array is provided which can increase the orientation when reproducing front channels of a surround sound, increase the density effect, improve the narrow directivity when reproducing a stereo sound and increase the selectivity in selecting reproduction methods which match setting environments. When reproducing a stereo sound by a speaker array for reproducing a surround sound by converting a sound into a beam of sound, the speaker array is divided into a sound reproducing region for an L system and a sound reproducing region for an R system at a central portion thereof. Then, each of the reproducing regions so divided is further divided in to bands. In addition, since a high frequency reproducing region has a high directivity and a strong orientation when the sound is attempted to be reproduced simultaneously by the plurality of speakers as is described above, a reproducing region is limited to part of the reproducing regions. Additionally, when stereo reproducing a front system of a surround sound source, the center orientation is improved by implementing different processings for the L, R systems and C. By adopting this configuration, it is possible to reproduce a sound with a natural stereo effect with no high frequency sound converted into a beam of sound.

The processing unit is programmed to process the signal and to generate a changed stereo signal for the speaker. The changed stereo signal is changed according to the movement or the environmental change. The speaker is configured to receive the changed stereo signal and to generate a changed stereo sound effect according to the changed stereo signal.

Dual-frequency coaxial earphones with shared magnet

A dual-frequency coaxial earphone has a shared magnet, which is interposed between a top board of a outer yoke and an outer disk of a inner yoke, wherein the outer yoke and the inner yoke each has a different polarity. A low-frequency voice coil of a low-frequency speaker part extends axially into and between an annular wall of the outer yoke and the outer disk of the inner yoke. An inner sleeve of the inner yoke extends into a first central opening of the outer yoke. Therefore, a high frequency of the high-frequency speaker part can pass through the inner sleeve so as to energize a central diaphragm of the low-frequency speaker part and to form a same phase as, and to output frequency synchronously with, the low-frequency speaker part. As such, the problem of intermodulation of distortion for the high and low acoustic frequencies can be solved, and that dimension of the earphone can be minimized.

Speakerbar

The present invention introduces a speakerbar which mounts above or below a flat screen TV and reproduces the surround sound experience normally associated with speakers placed in five to seven separate locations around the room. This particular invention effectively increases the perceived stereo separation of the left and right front speakers, and creates the perception of two and even four surround speakers typically placed in the rear of the listening area. In addition, it introduces new technology to achieve multichannel bass extension beyond the normal limitations due to the minimal internal volume of a multichannel speakerbar.

Surround sound loudspeaker system

A single loudspeaker has a substantially single-point source of sound energy derived from multiple drivers to provide a surround sound effect. The surround sound is effective for listeners close to the single loudspeaker or substantially distant within a room. The physical size of the loudspeaker is convenient for placement on top of a computer monitor or television set. The single loudspeaker produces a dynamically variable energy gradient between the listener's right and left ears and the perception of sound emanating from changing locations in the space surrounding the loudspeaker. The placement of a plurality of these loudspeakers surrounding the expected listener location allows the coverage of larger spaces with separate dynamically variable energy gradient pairs.

Quickly Installed Multiple Speaker Surround Sound System and Method

A surround sound speaker system is provided whereby multiple speakers that broadcast acoustic signals representative of sound from different directions may be mounted in one speaker housing rather than in separate speaker housings that are positioned at separate positions within the room.
