Device and method for registering a position sensor in an anatomical body

An apparatus having an insertable portion for holding a position sensor is disclosed. The position sensor can transmit a signal indicative of its position with respect to a field generator. The insertable portion of the catheter has fiducial markings that are detectable by an imaging modality when the insertable portion is inserted into the anatomical body. The fiducial markings are asymmetrical about at least a first axis of the insertable portion. After the insertable portion has been inserted into the anatomical body, the fiducial markings can be detected to facilitate registration of the position sensor held in the insertable portion to the anatomical body. The apparatus also has a fixing mechanism for releasably fixing the insertable portion to the anatomical body. The non-symmetrical fiducial markings facilitate unambiguous registration of the insertable portion to the anatomical body. When the insertable portion is inserted into the anatomical body to a location of interest, the fixing mechanism substantially rigidly fixes the insertable portion of the catheter to a part of the anatomical body near the location of interest.

Bone plate

Bones fracture in any number of various ways and, in order to properly reduce a fracture, it may be necessary to place compression screws in any number of combinations along a bone plate to bring the various bone fragments together. A bone plate is provided with an optimal number and combination of threaded holes and non-threaded holes. In embodiments, the bone plate comprises one or more “hole pairs” in which a non-threaded hole and a threaded hole are placed adjacent to one another. The use of hole pairs enables a surgeon to place a compression screw and a locking screw in close proximity, facilitating both bone reduction and bone plate stabilization in a proximate location on the bone plate. In embodiments, the bone plate has an optimal thickness that promotes structural integrity while maximizing the number and combination of holes and reducing the profile of seated screws.

Cable-terminating modular plug

Modular plug for terminating a cable having twisted signal pairs of wires including a plug housing having contact blade-receiving slots at a front end and defining a longitudinally extending cavity opening at a rear end and a strain relief member defining a channel for receiving the cable. A wire aligner is interposed between the strain relief member and the housing and arranged at least partially in the cavity. The wire aligner aligns the wires of the cable into specific position relative to the slots and crimps the cable when received in the channel of the strain relief member. To crimp the cable, the wire aligner is formed with retention fingers which exert an inwardly directed force against the cable when receive din the channel of the strain relief member.

An intervertebral disc prosthesis including a core of elastomeric material provided within an inner component of fabric. The inner component is provided with an outer component of fabric. By providing a smooth inner contact surface between the inner component and the core, movement between the inner and outer components is facilitated in preference to movement between the inner component and core. Core abrasion is thus avoided. The use of an inner component and an outer component also means that the characteristics of each can be optimized to meet different aims. The elastomeric core is provided with an additive to enhance radiopacity under medical imaging.
