A medical imaging recording and viewing system adapted for use interchangably with a variety of endoscopes. The system includes a portable hand-held device that may be removably placed within a cradle affixed to the endoscope. An interface between an image acquisition device of the endoscope and the portable device permits images to be transmitted to and stored within the portable device. The portable device also may include a viewing screen to permit a user to view the images. A docking station may receive the portable device for transferring images to a separate viewing device and for recharging the battery of the portable device.

A method of operating a general purpose handheld communication device to monitor traffic events is disclosed. The handheld communication device is detachably mountable on a vehicle and includes a motion sensor, a video imaging sensor, a data processor, data storage medium, and data communication module. The method includes acquiring motion data using the motion sensor; identifying a traffic event based on the motion data; acquiring visual data using the video imaging sensor; saving data that includes the acquired visual data and motion data on the data storage medium; and communicating the saved data using the communication module.

An integrated enclosure/touch screen assembly. A touch screen assembly consisting of a display mechanism and optical sensor mechanism are enclosed within a single piece cover. The optical sensor mechanism consists of lens structure and optical sensor couple to the lens structure. The single piece cover includes a transparent top surface and the lens structure is embedded within the transparent top surface. The transparent top surface of the single piece cover provides an enclosure that is both dust free and waterproof.

The lens structure of the single piece cover functions by columnating light across the transparent surface. The optical touch sensor is coupled to the lens structure to register contact with the transparent surface via the lens structure by detecting disturbances in the columnated light. In one embodiment, the single piece cover is constructed by embedding the lens structure directly into the transparent surface. This process forms the single piece cover and also may be used to provide various shapes for the outer edges of the cover. The single piece cover eliminates exposed seams of the touch screen assembly. Additionally, the transparent surface is disposed directly above the display without any intervening layers, thereby improving the transmission of light to the display.

Multiple at least partially overlapping image frames are acquired of portions of the scene. The method involves registering the image frames, including determining displacements of the imaging device between acquisitions of image frames. Multiple panorama images are generated including joining image frames of the scene according to spatial relationships and determining stereoscopic counterpart relationships between the multiple panorama images. The multiple panorama images are processed based on the stereoscopic counterpart relationships to form a stereoscopic panorama image.

The docking system includes a single docking station and a plurality of inserts that are placed in the docking station so that the docking station can accommodate hand held devices with differing sizes and shapes. A method for performing a view switching function of a handheld device with a touch screen is provided. The handheld device has an LCD panel and a touch panel. The method includes (a) when the touch panel detects a presence of an object, determining whether the main touch region or the assistant touch region is touched; (b) when it is determined that the main touch region is touched, and it is determined that the object slides to the assistant touch region, switching from a first view to a second view displayed on the LCD panel; and (c) when it is determined that the assistant touch region is touched, and it is determined that the object slides to the main touch region, switching from a third view to a fourth view displayed on the LCD panel.

In an implementation, an OLED array can be used for light sensing as well as light emission functions. A second user input may be received, and in response to the second user input, at least a second level of the visual representation is entered beneath the first level. Program instructions may be executed, and one or more music composition algorithms may be applied to song data in accordance with a song data structure to generate music output for the song. The visual representation may include an animated display synchronized with one or more of the musical components. Modifications to musical data corresponding to a particular musical component may be accompanied by a change in a visual effect corresponding to the modifications to the musical characteristics.

Systems and methods for enabling the use of a device to control multiple devices that participate in the presentation of content are disclosed. In particular, a first device may receive information corresponding to the state of appliances to be controlled. A second device having a graphical user interface may be enabled by the first device to update its graphical user interface in accordance with the appliance states for which the first device receives information. The invention may be incorporated into an inventory management system such that when confirmation of actual delivery has been received, the recipient will release payment to its vendors.

A system for downloading files to a hand-held device includes a file converter for converting a selected file to a distilled file. The file converter uploads the distilled file to a server, which is associated with a file processor. The server processes the distilled file and sends it to a hand-held device. A file viewer displays or plays the distilled file on the hand-held device. A method for sharing files on a data storage device with a hand-held device includes the steps of selecting a file on the data storage device to be shared with the hand-held device, processing the selected file on the data storage device into a converted format for uploading to a server, uploading the converted file to the server, accessing the server from the hand-held device, and sending the converted file to the hand-held device for displaying or playing on the hand-held device.
