Systems and methods are disclosed for reducing the cost of sending messages over an intermittent network of computing devices via multiple communication channels by creating a first message on a first device, the message intended to be sent to a second device over the network multiple communication channels; applying a first policy to reduce the cost of sending messages over the intermittent network of computing devices, the first policy containing one or more rules to determine whether to send the first message to the second device, each rule being a function of one or more messaging attributes of messages, channels or the system environment; and dynamically updating the first policy by sending a second message to the first device, the second message being a system message that results in the addition, deletion or other modification of the rules contained in the policy to reduce the cost of sending messages over the intermittent network of computing devices.

Digital tile-based mapping techniques are disclosed that enable efficient online serving of aesthetically pleasing maps. In one particular embodiment, an image tile-based digital mapping system is configured for generating map tiles during an offline session, and serving selected sets of those tiles to a client when requested. The recorder copies at least one packet of the protocol data stream. The recorder creates a recording of the protocol data stream using the at least one copied packet. The methods describe how telephony devices can discover and operate as a fully functional telephone system, not only on a local area network, but also across wide area network. The methods described also allow the telephone system to be logically segmented on a network, such that they don't interfere, or unintentionally share telephony resources with an unrelated deployment of a like server-less telephone system. Further still, the method also allows the packet network telephony devices to operate cooperatively with centralized telephony call processing services. By the nature of the peer-to-peer server-less methods, the devices can continue to provide telephony call processing services on the local network domain, in the event the centralized telephony call processing services becomes unavailable.
