MIMO precoding enabling spatial multiplexing, power allocation and adaptive modulation and coding

In a closed-loop wireless communication system, a codebook-based feedback mechanism is provided to enable non-unitary precoding for multi-stream transmission, where in each stream is optimized with suitable transmission power allocation and AMC. The codebook-based feedback mechanism uses a precoding codebook having a power allocation matrix which is constrained to specify that beamforming always applies full power to a predetermined beam. With this constraint, a one-bit power allocation feedback index may be used to switch between beamforming and spatial multiplexing.

Multi-user MIMO-SDMA for finite rate feedback systems

A multi-user MIMO downlink beamforming system with limited feedback (200) is provided to enable preceding for multi-stream transmission, where a channel codeword (ui) and one or more channel quality indicator values (CQIA, CQIB) are computed at the user equipment (201.i) on the basis of maximizing a predetermined SINR performance metric (ρi) which estimates the receive signal-to-noise-ratio (SINR) at the user equipment (201.i). The computed codeword (ui) and CQI values (or differential values related thereto) are quantized and fed back to help the base station (210) which applies a correction to the appropriate CQI value in the course of designing the transmit beamforming vectors w and determining the appropriate modulation and coding level to be used for downlink data transmission.

Symbol self synchronous interleaving method and apparatus for OFDM-based communication system

An interleaving method and apparatus is disclosed for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital audio broadcasting (DAB) system. The disclosed interleaver method and apparatus utilize a convolutional interleaver having a row size equal to one OFDM symbol and a time span of arbitrary size. A structured memory block is utilized in the de-interleaver at the receiver having a row size of one OFDM symbol (the number of active sub-carriers in the applicable sub-band of the IBOC system). The self-synchronizing nature of the present invention permits a receiver in an OFDM-based IBOC system to sort the scrambled blocks and descramble the received symbols according to its own frame count, without regard to the frame count of the transmitter. The disclosed interleaver method and apparatus does not require interleaver synchronization between the transmitter and receiver. In one implementation, separate convolutional encoders and convolutional interleavers are applied to each sub-band in a multi-stream structure to provide independent error spreading for each sub-band.

Non-volatile memory and method with multi-stream update tracking

Update data to a non-volatile memory may be recorded in at least two interleaving streams such as either into an update block or a scratch pad block depending on a predetermined condition. The scratch pad block is used to buffered update data that are ultimately destined for the update block. Synchronization information about the order recording of updates among the streams is saved with at least one of the streams. This will allow the most recently written version of data that may exist on multiple memory blocks to be identified. In one embodiment, the synchronization information is saved in a first block and is a write pointer that points to the next recording location in a second block. In another embodiment, the synchronization information is a time stamp.

Dynamically switched and static multiple video streams for a multimedia conference

An end station for a videoconference / multimedia conference is disclosed, where the end station requests, receives and displays multiple video streams. Call control messages request video streams with specified video policies. A static policy specifies a constant source video stream, e.g., a participant. A dynamic policy dynamically maps various source streams to a requested stream and shows, for example, the current speaker, or a round robin of participants. A network access device, e.g., a media switch or a video composition system, mediates between the multi-stream end station and the core conference system. Multi-stream endpoints need not handle the complexity of directly receiving video according to a potentially wide variety of call control protocols, formats, and bit-rates. Multi-stream endpoints decentralize compositing video streams, which increases functional flexibility and reduces the need for centralized equipment.

Non-volatile memory and method with multi-stream updating

In a memory that is programmable page by page and each page having multiple sectors that are once-programmable, even if successive writes are sequential, the data recorded to an update block may be fragmented and non-sequential. Instead of recording update data to an update block, the data is being recorded in at least two interleaving streams. When a full page of data is available, it is recorded to the update block. Otherwise, it is temporarily recorded to the scratch pad block until a full page of data becomes available to be transferred to the update block. Preferably, a pipeline operation allows the recording to the update block to be set up as soon as the host write command indicates a full page could be written. If the actual write data is incomplete due to interruptions, the setup will be canceled and recording is made to the scratch pad block instead.

Multi-stream bit rate adaptation

A method for communication includes providing an item of media content for streaming in a plurality of versions having different, respective bit rates. The media content is streamed from a server to a client by transmitting a first version of the item over a network at a first bit rate from the server to the client via a server buffer associated with the server and monitoring a fill level of the server buffer while streaming the media content. The server switches to transmitting a second version of the item at a second bit rate, different from the first bit rate, to the client in response to a change in the fill level of the server buffer.

Model for enforcing different phases of the end-to-end negotiation protocol (E2ENP) aiming QoS support for multi-stream and multimedia applications

The underlying invention generally relates to the field of mobile computing in a networking environment with distributed multimedia applications and technologies. More specifically, it is directed to the concept of the End-to-End Negotiation Protocol (E2ENP) phases, which enable a pre-negotiation (802, 804, 805), fast negotiation (806) and a fast, dynamic renegotiation (808) of the end-to-end quality and capabilities for telecommunication sessions (102), for multiple configurations of two or a multiplicity of end peers and / or intermediate components in a consistent, reliable, and incremental way by enabling the mobile users' applications to efficiently and timely react to QoS violations. In this context, the invention proposes a model for defining user profiles and terminal capability information in such a way that hierarchical QoS contract specifications (1108), e.g. compelling correlations (804) across different sets of QoS contracts (1108) for related media streams (206), can be enforced and used for deriving negotiable information. As a reference implementation of this concept, this invention proposes a novel usage of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP, 910) standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in conjunction with extensions of the Session Description Protocol Next Generation (SDPng, 912) specification based on the Extensible Markup Language (XML) in order to implement concepts of the End-to-End QoS Negotiation Protocol (E2ENP, 908).

Storing Multi-Stream Non-Linear Access Patterns in a Flash Based File-System

Accesses to logical pages of memory are monitored. Each logical page corresponds to a logical memory address and the accesses defining an access pattern. The logical memory addresses are logged in ordered pairs of consecutive logical pages in the access pattern. Upon receipt of a request to write data to a given logical page, a given ordered pair of consecutive logical pages containing the logical memory address of the given logical page as a first logical memory address in the ordered pair of logical memory addresses associated with that consecutive pair is obtained. A first physical memory address mapping to the first logical memory address is identified, and a second logical memory address from that identified consecutive pair. A second physical memory address mapping to the second logical memory address is identified, and the data and the second physical memory address are written to the first physical memory address.

Multi-Stream Digital Display Interface

Multiple video streams can be transmitted over a high speed link. A connection with a receiver can be detected by a transmitter. The transmitter can then establish a link with the receiver. Multiple streams of video data can be packed into a transfer unit. The transmitter can then transmit the transfer unit with the multiple stream video data over one or more lanes of the link to the receiver. A high speed communications link between a receiver and a transmitter can transmit data for multiple video streams over a single lane within a data link. The high speed communication link is scalable in bandwidth and video / audio streams transmitted, and backward compatible with other types of video data communication connections. The high speed link may support up to eight video / audio streams simultaneously, thereby enabling full use of data link bandwidth.

Detection method and apparatus for a multi-stream MIMO

In a multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) system, high-rate data transmission is achieved by dividing the original data stream into several parallel data substreams, each of which is transmitted from a corresponding transmit antenna (spatial multiplexing) and received by multiple receive antennas.
