Apparatus for and method of power save traffic control in client/server networks

A novel and useful apparatus for and method of handling traffic congestion during power save mode in client / server systems such as wireless local area networks (WLANs). A reduction in response time is achieved by minimizing communications between the host and the MAC processing entities in client devices. The host sends shortened descriptors to the MAC rather than complete frames. Only a limited number of frames for each client queue are stored on the MAC. A transfer bitmap is used to track the frames to be transferred from the host to the MAC. Transmitter pre-processing is performed on the frames pulled from the host. A transmit bitmap is used to track frames that have been processed and awaiting transmission to a client. Frames that are ready are then sent out from queues for clients that are active and have an ongoing service period.

Arrangement for controlling congestion in an SS7 signaling node based on packet classification

A signaling network node is configured for identifying a received signaling message as belonging to one of a plurality of prescribed originating node groups, based on prescribed message class selection criteria. Each originating node group has at least one originating node and is assigned at least one congestion threshold relative to a message rate (e.g., messages per unit time or number of bytes per unit time). The signaling network node determines the message rate for each corresponding originating node group; if the message rate for an originating node group exceeds the corresponding at least one congestion threshold, the signaling network node outputs a congestion signaling message to the originating node having sent the signaling message, for reduction of the corresponding message rate.

Load balancing techniques for inter-domain traffic engineering

A method for balancing traffic across paths connecting a network to the Internet using a fractional allocation strategy for distributing the traffic from a congested selected path. The strategy includes: (a) associating the paths j with a counter i; (b) calculating the total initial selected path overload; (c) calculating the selected path load, wherein the load is equal to the initial selected path overload less the sum of the low capacity boundary for i path(s); (d) calculating the portion of the traffic on the selected path to be distributed using a bi-sectional search strategy; (e) distributing a portion of the traffic on the selected path to the other paths; and (f) stopping if there are no more paths (i=j), otherwise increasing the numerical value of the counter by one (1) and go to step (c).

Method and system for multithreaded processing using errands

The disclosed invention provides a system, method and computer program product for processing multithreaded application programs. The application threads are written using itineraries, which are lists of errands. The errands are small tasks that collectively constitute the entire thread's functionality. An itinerary is executed via an itinerary running service provided by the operating system, using the kernel stack as its execution stack. When an itinerary is encountered in a thread, the thread is preempted and the itinerary execution is taken over by the itinerary running service in itinerary mode. The thread remains preempted in normal mode until the complete itinerary has been executed. Within the itinerary mode, the errands are executed in the sequence specified by the itinerary, until an errand blocks. The itinerary is resumed from the same errand that previously blocked the thread.

Freeway optimization program

This invention enables freeways to carry the maximum amount of traffic they can safely carry during times of heavy use of the freeway system. The invention would maximize freeway capacity by restricting the inflows of traffic and facilitating the exits from the freeway. Freeway inflows would be restricted by extensive use of metering lights and restrictions on speeds on the freeway itself. Freeway exits would be facilitated by changing traffic lights, stop signs, and anything else that restricts exits from a freeway, to allow for the free flow of traffic off a freeway. An optimized freeway system would shorten commutes, lessen consumption of gas, lower pollution, and lessen the need to build or expand freeways. Thus, it would save several billions of dollars every year.

Comprehensive Multipath Routing for Congestion and Quality-of-Service in Communication Networks

A packet routing method includes computing, for each source node in the data network and each destination node in the data network, a set of multiple routes providing a full range of performance from the source node to the destination node. The multiple routes are preferably precomputed and stored. The full range of performance is defined by a set of dominant routes, defined in terms of a partial order on a multi-dimensional space whose dimensions correspond to performance metrics such as bandwidth, latency metric, and jitter. The method selects, for a packet originating from a source node and addressed to a destination node, a route from the computed set of multiple routes and forwards the packet in accordance with the selected route.

Method and apparatus for controlling network data congestion

A method, apparatus and network device for controlling the flow of network data arranged in frames and minimizing congestion is disclosed. A status error indicator is generated within a receive FIFO memory indicative of a frame overflow within the receive FIFO memory. In response to the status error indicator, an early congestion interrupt is generated to a host processor indicative that a frame overflow has occurred within the receive FIFO memory. The incoming frame is discarded and the services of received frames are enhanced by one of either increasing the number of words of a direct memory access (DMA) unit burst size, or modifying the time-slice of other active processes.

Method and system for determining hard and preferred rules in global routing of electronic designs

Various embodiments of the invention comprise methods and systems for determining when or whether to use hard rules or preferred rules during global routing of an electronic design. In some embodiments, the entire routable space is first routed with hard rules during global routing while ensuring the design may be embedded. The design is then analyzed with preferred rules where the overcongested areas are marked as “use hard rule” and areas not overcongested are marked as “use preferred rule.” The methods or the systems thus ensure that the design remains routable throughout the process while improving timing, manufacturability, or yield by reserving routing space for the preferred rules.

Method of generating wiring routes with matching delay in the presence of process variation

A method and service of balancing delay in a circuit design begins with nodes that are to be connected together by a wiring design, or by being supplied with an initial wiring design that is to be altered. The wiring design will have many wiring paths, such as a first wiring path, a second wiring path, etc. Two or more of the wiring paths are designed to have matching timing, such that the time needed for a signal to travel along the first wiring path is about the same time needed for a signal to travel along the second wiring path, the third path, etc. The method / service designs one or all of the wiring paths to make the paths traverse wire segments of about the same length and orientation, within each wiring level that the first wiring path and the second wiring path traverse. Also, this process makes the first wiring path and the second wiring path traverse the wire segments in the same order, within each wiring level that the first wiring path and the second wiring path traverse.

Methods, systems, and computer program products for reducing signaling link congestion

Methods, systems, and computer program products for reducing the likelihood of signaling link congestion on a failing or recovering signaling linkset are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method for reducing or eliminating congestion on a recovered link in a previously failed linkset due to the routing of post-global title (GT) translated signaling message traffic is disclosed. When the first link in a previously failed linkset becomes available, routes associated with the recovering linkset are marked as restricted. GT translated messages are directed to the lowest cost route that is marked as allowed. If no routes are marked as allowed, messages are directed to the lowest cost route that is marked as restricted. When a predetermined number or percentage of the links in a linkset become available, routes associated with the recovering linkset are marked as allowed.

Transmitter and method of transmission

A transmitter equipped with a plurality of transmission path ports and a relay section. The relay section has a routing table and a router. In the routing table, information about the relay of the received packet to one of the transmission path ports connected to a relay transmission path is stored, correlated with both a port identifier of each the transmission path port and the source address of the transmitter that transmitted the packet. The router extracts the port identifier of the transmission path port that received the packet and the source address contained in the received packet, and routes the received packet to the transmission path port connected to the relay transmission path by referring to the routing table for the extracted port identifier and the extracted source address.
