A multi-vision system includes chromaticity sensors for performing colorimetry of a plurality of display units. From colorimetry results obtained from the chromaticity sensors, a color conversion coefficient calculation unit inside a color calibration unit calculates the color conversion coefficient that is characteristic of each display unit. Calculated color conversion coefficients are stored in a color processing unit. The color calibration for this multi-vision system displays representing colors without a color conversion, and from colorimetry results of the representing colors for all the display units, a target color is decided automatically. For all display units, the color conversion coefficients are automatically calculated so that the representing colors are able to be displayed as a target color.

A parameter editing unit edits color processing parameters so as to reduce the color difference between the changed target data and color data. A data input / output unit transmits the edited color processing parameters to the digital camera.

The increased volume of raw data is handled by either an improved compression / decompression scheme using lossless compression, using lossy compression or using a shared bus with higher bandwidth. This in turn allows the elimination of the frame buffer memory from the camera. A method of adjusting the N components of an N component color signal (such as the 3 components of an RGB color signal) with respect to color temperature of illuminating light when imaging a colored subject, comprising the step of computing the difference between each of the components of the color signal for different temperatures of illuminating light, using an algorithm based on the spectral sensitivity of the imaging means and Planck's equation defining black body illumination to obtain N components whose values are independent of the color temperature of the illuminating light. Normalisation of the adjusted values renders the values independent of intensity of illumination and can also reduce the processing time for further processing of the signals. A technique for compensating for gamma correction which is commonly built in cameras, is disclosed.

Two pieces of gamut information of an appearance color space of first and second image devices are acquired. A gamut indicated by the gamut information of the first image device is mapped within a gamut indicated by the gamut information of the second image device. A subtractive color image is generated using the converted image having low resolution.
