Method, apparatus and system for automated tooth shade analysis and matching

Methods, apparatuses and systems for tooth shade analysis and matching are disclosed. A method embodiment according to the invention includes acquiring at least one image, the image including one or more teeth of a patient and normalization references, normalizing the at least one image in accordance with the normalization references, determining the color of the teeth as composed of colors from one or more selected shade standards, communicating the standardized color information to a dental laboratory, manufacturing a dental prosthesis based on the standardized color information and installing the dental prosthetic. Normalization is performed to correct patient images for variations in lighting conditions and image source. Normalization references include a black reference, a white reference and at least one color reference. The normalized image is standardized by matching the pixels of the normalized image to selected shade standards. Selected shade standards may include incisal tooth shade standards. The standardized color image and / or analysis may be communicated to a dental laboratory according to aspects of the invention. The dental prosthesis can then be manufactured by a lab technician by referring to the standardized image. Color models according to the invention may include RGB, HSI and other models for representing color images. The methods, apparatuses and systems for tooth shade analysis and matching are also applicable to direct restorations of natural teeth, such as repair of chipped or broken teeth.

The present invention relates generally to the field of CT and X-ray scanning units. More specifically, the invention relates to scanning unit with the capability to scan impressions and patients at the same location. Even more specifically, the invention involves a method of using data and images received from the same scanning unit to fabricate a surgical stint or guide device that snap fits onto a preparation site, and further allows a dental practitioner or a lab to prepare permanent prosthetics using the data and images from the same scanning unit. Even more specifically, the invention relates to a method of allowing the clinician to place high-fidelity teeth back into the correct location within the jaw taus and create models and treatment plans using hi-fidelity 3D images. Additionally, the invention relates to attaching an imaging capturing device (such as a digital camera) that allows the transmission of digital images or data from the capturing device to reconstructing software that reconstructs the 3D volume of the head topography to superimpose over the CT scan of head. The reconstructing software may reconstruct data from the captured digital images or data, from the data received from scanning patients and from scanning impressions. The invention belongs to the field of clinical laboratory techniques and in particular relates to a colloidal gold test strip for quantitatively detecting human bone metabolic biomarker and a detection device applying same. The test strip provided by the invention comprises a sample pad, a glass fiber mat coated with gold-labeled streptavidin, a glass fiber mat coated with a gold-labeled antibody, a nitrocellulose membrane and an absorbent pad which are sequentially adhered with one another on a bottom plate in a staggered manner. A quality control line pre-enveloped with a goat anti-rat IgG antibody is formed in the nitrocellulose membrane; a detection line parallel to the quality control line is formed in the nitrocellulose membrane; an antibody capable of being specifically bound with a to-be-detected antigen human bone metabolic biomarker is coated on the detection line; the gold-labeled antibody is an antibody capable of being specifically bound with the to-be-detected antigen human bone metabolic biomarker. According to the test strip provided by the invention, the human bone metabolic biomarker can be quantitatively detected, the requirement on instruments is low, the time of clinically detecting the human bone metabolic biomarker is shortened, and the detection complexity and cost can be reduced.

Simultaneous isolation and preconcentration of exosomes by ion concentration polarization method and apparatus

Exosomes carry microRNA biomarkers, occur in higher abundance in cancerous patients than in healthy ones, and because they are present in most biofluids, including blood and urine, can be obtained non-invasively. Standard laboratory techniques to isolate exosomes are expensive, time-consuming, provide poor purity, and recover on the order of 25% of the available exosomes. We present a new microfluidic technique to simultaneously isolate exosomes and preconcentrate them by electrophoresis using a high transverse local electric field generated by ion-depleting ion-selective membrane. We use pressure-driven flow to deliver an exosome sample to a microfluidic chip such that the transverse electric field forces them out of the cross flow and into an agarose gel which filters out unwanted cellular debris while the ion-selective membrane concentrates the exosomes through an enrichment effect. We efficiently isolated exosomes from 1×PBS buffer, cell culture media and blood serum. Using flow rates from 150 μL/hr to 200 μL/hr and field strengths of 100 V/cm, we consistently captured between 60% to 80% of exosomes from buffer, cell culture media, and blood serum as confirmed by both fluorescence spectroscopy and nanoparticle tracking analysis. Our microfluidic chip maintained this recovery rate for more than twenty minutes with a concentration factor of 15 for ten minutes of isolation.
