A system and method used in total joint arthroplasty of a ball and socket joint such as hip and shoulder replacements for accurate positioning of a prosthesis through pinless surgical navigation during replacement surgery according to a predetermined distance from the center of rotation of the replaced joint and/or articular surface to obtain the proper length, offset, and biomechanics of the replaced joint.

The invention relates to a novel three-dimension shoulder joint artificial prosthese, formed by a spherical cap element 1, a handle 3, an incline element (bar wedge 4 and arc block 6), and a torsion element (round plate 2 and cylinder block). And the rod 9 of handle has plum blossom section to avoid the handle being rotated in the marrow. The invention is characterized in the large adjustment range of prosthese parameters with repeatable adjusting ability. The invention has simple structure, high reliability and simple operation.

A shoulder replacement prosthesis has a head (12) for replacing the humeral head and a connection shaft (14). The head has a domed portion (16) and a flange (18) positioned at an end region of the domed portion, and the flange (18) has a width (22) which varies around the domed portion, having a greater width at a part corresponding to a region of the greater tuberosity than at a part corresponding to a region of the lesser tuberosity. The flange is provided with a plurality of connection portions (24) for securing the tendons attached to the tuberosities. By dimensioning the flange appropriately, the anatomical positioning of the tendon to bone connections can be more accurately replicated. In particular, the flange acts to bridge the so-called bare area of the humeral head. The flange (18) provides a firm immovable surface area to which connections can be made, for example by partridge bands of greater surface area and rigidity than conventional sutures. Bands may also pass to a clamp so that a plastic cage surrounds the tuberosities.

A method, and devices for facilitating the method, for shoulder replacement surgery. The method entails establishing a mechanical support in a the anatomical neck plane of the proximal humeral head, fixing a jig to the mechanical support, where the jig supports a drill guide with its axis perpendicular to the anatomical neck plane, adjusting the drill guide it coincide with the axis of the humeral head, drilling a hole through the humeral head for insertion of a shaft which will support and rotate a reaming bit. The reaming bits used to resurface the humeral head and the glenoid fossa are inserted through the back of the patient, through a gap created between two easily separated muscles, rather than through a gap cut through the subscapularis muscle on the front of the joint. A suitable jig is provided to facilitate the method.

A humeral component of a reverse shoulder prosthesis (2) comprises an elongate stem part (4) for location within the intramedullary cavity of the humerus, and an epiphyseal part having a concave bearing surface (12) for articulation with the convex bearing surface (12) of a glenoid component (8). The invention provides a shoulder joint prosthesis, comprising an outer cup, a lining, a ball head and a humeral shank. The outer cup, the lining and the ball head are nested in sequence, wherein theouter cup includes an outer cup body and a first limiting projecting wall arranged at an opening of the outer cup body, the outer cup body has a first spherical inner cavity, the first limiting projecting wall is raised from the center face of the first spherical inner cavity, and the end face of the outer cup body is lower than the center face of the first spherical inner cavity; the lining includes a hemispherical housing body and a second limiting projecting wall and third limiting projecting wall arranged at an opening of the hemispherical housing body, the hemispherical housing body has asecond spherical inner cavity for receiving the ball head, the second and third limiting projection walls block the ball head from leaving the second spherical inner cavity, and the hemispherical housing body is provided with a groove to make way for the humeral shank. The problem can be effectively solved that a non-limiting artificial shoulder joint of the prior art for bone structure and rotator cuff deficiency caused by tumors or severe wounds has poor activity stability.

The invention relates to an artificial shoulder joint prosthesis.
