Fluid-directing multiport rotary valve

A multiport rotary valve apparatus for directing fluid streams which has two circular stationary heads and two circular rotating heads. The first stationary head has at least two and preferably more primary ports for connection with fluid streams and a corresponding number of secondary ports for connection to fluid-solid contacting chambers. The second stationary head has the same number of primary ports as the first stationary head (at least two and preferably more) for connection with the fluid streams and the same number of secondary ports for a second connection to the fluid-solid contacting chambers. Each stationary head includes internal conduits for the connection of the primary and secondary ports to a rotating head. The first rotating head is in communication with the first stationary head while the second rotating head is in communication with the second stationary head. Each rotating head has internal transverse conduits formed therein for the purpose of redistributing the flow coming from a primary port in the stationary head back to the secondary port in the same stationary head. In conjunction with offset and recessed arcuate obround windows in either the stationary or rotating heads, the internal transverse conduits in the rotating heads are formed in a very specific pattern that allows each primary port to connect to each secondary port and thereby each fluid-solid contacting chamber in a sequential manner upon one index of the rotating heads. The timing of the index can be varied to accommodate the specifics of each process. The net effect of the apparatus is the simulated movement of each chamber through the various fluid streams without physically moving the chambers.

System and method for performing serialization of devices

A serialization service module is provided for configuring an asset management system to provide a secure means of generating, assigning to chips (or other electronic objects or devices), and tracking unique serial numbers. To provide this service, a controller is used to define a product model, then to define one or more serialization schemas to be bound to each product model. Each serialization schema contains a range of serial numbers for a particular product. The serial number schemas are sent over a secure, encrypted connection to appliances at the manufacturer's location. Agents can then request serial number values by product name. The serial numbers are generated by the appliance, metered, and provided to the agents. The serial numbers are then injected sequentially into each die in a chip manufacturing process using the agent.

Multi-Mode Tags and Methods of Making and Using the Same

Multi-mode (e.g., EAS and RFID) tags and methods for making and using the same are disclosed. The tag generally includes an antenna, an electronic article surveillance (EAS) function block coupled to the antenna, and one or more identification function blocks coupled to the antenna in parallel with the EAS function block. The method of reading the tag generally includes the steps of applying an electric field to the tag, detecting the tag when the electric field has a relatively low power, and detecting an identification signal from the tag when the electric field has a relatively high power. The present invention advantageously enables a single tag to be used for both inventory and anti-theft purposes, thereby improving inventory management and control at reduced system and / or “per-article” costs.

Papermaking refiner plates and method of manufacture

Replaceable refiner fillings (10) used for refining of lignocellulosic and other natural and synthetic fibrous materials in the manufacture of paper, paperboard, and other fiberboard products. The refiner fillings (10) include a pattern of blades (14) and spacers (16) defined by a bar cluster (24), with the bar cluster being the basis of formation of the filling (10). A method of manufacture provides bar cluster patterns based on factors including pumping angle, plurality of segments in a refiner filling (10), and the number of clusters in a segment. A bar set cluster is established for uniform fabrication of bar clusters (24) for the refiner fillings (10).

Method of sorting dice by speed during die bond assembly and packaging to customer order

When integrated circuit dice are tested as part of a completely manufactured wafer, the individual die is tested both for proper function and for speed grade. A wafer map is formed in a computer to keep up with which dice on the wafer are good and to record the speed grade of each good die. This wafer map is then used during the step of dicing and packaging the wafer to fill existing orders by placing a die that meets a speed grade of an order into the package that has been ordered. More than one kind of order can be filled from dice in a single wafer. The method allows integrated circuit devices to be packaged to order and eliminates the need to keep an inventory of packaged dice.
