A packaged semiconductor chip includes features such as a chip carrier having a large thermal conductor which can be solder-bonded to a circuit board so as to provide enhanced thermal conductivity to the circuit board and electromagnetic shielding and a conductive enclosure which partially or completely surrounds the packaged chip to provide additional heat dissipation and shielding. The packaged unit may include both an active semiconductor chip and a passive element, desirably in the form of a chip, which includes resistors and capacitors. Inductors may be provided in whole or in part on the chip carrier. The present invention is directed to a transconnector for coupling first and second spinal fixation rods or other elongate fixation elements. The transconnector includes a male member, a female member, and a locking member. The male member has a body with a linking element (such as a hook) associated with the lateral end for receiving one of the fixation elements, and a projection on the medial end. The projection includes a recess defined by lateral and medial walls. The female member has a body with a linking element associated with the lateral end for receiving the other fixation element, and a cavity with an opening on the medial end for receiving a portion of the male member projection. The locking member secures the position and orientation of the male member projection portion in the cavity in order to accommodate different separation distances and orientations between the first and second fixation elements. The locking member cooperates with the medial wall of the recess of the projection to prevent uncoupling of the male and female members. An insulator bushing wildlife guard having features for easier alignment and installation of the guard on the bushing. The guard has two hinged body sections of insulating material. An outer edge of each body section is provided with a plurality of flexible fingers that allow conductors to pass through from the interior to the exterior of the enclosure when the two portions of the guard are engaged. In one embodiment, the guard is spring biased toward a closed position. A handle on the back has inner grooves to make it easier to grasp and manipulate the guard using a shotgun stick. On a lower front side of each portion of the guard, spaced-apart, curved, horizontal upper and lower flanges help align the guard with the topmost skirt of a bushing. Medial walls having a curved, sloped, concave or otherwise inwardly-directed configuration between the two flanges facilitate forcing the guard open by pushing it against the bushing. A portion of the mandible is resected to leave a bony gap. The elongated plate is received within the channel of the cover, and the cover is received within the bony gap to alleviate growth of soft tissue against the elongated plate. Screw fasteners received through the apertures of the elongated plate secure the plate to the mandible.
