Improved decision feedback equalizer and decision directed timing recovery systems and methods suitable for use in connection with a dual mode QAM/VSB receiver system are disclosed. A trellis decoder operates in conjunction with a decision feedback equalizer circuit on trellis coded 8-VSB modulated signals. The trellis decoder includes a 4-state traceback memory circuit outputting a maximum likelihood decision as well as a number of intermediate decisions based upon the maximum likelihood sequence path. Any number of decisions, along the sequence, may be provided as an input signal to timing recovery system loops, with the particular decision along the sequence chosen on the basis of its delay through the trellis decoder. Variable delay circuitry is coupled to the other input of the timing recovery system loops in order to ensure that both input signals bear the same timestamp. Final decisions are output from the trellis decoder to a DFE in order to enhance the DFE's ability to operate in low SNR environments. A decision sequence estimation error signal is also generated and used to drive the tap updates of both the DFE and an FFE portion of the equalizer.

A television receiver system capable of receiving and demodulating television signal information content that has been modulated and transmitted in accordance with a variety of modulation formats is disclosed. In particular, the system is able to accommodate receipt and demodulation of at least 8 and 16-VSB modulated signals in order to support US HDTV applications, as well as 64 and 256-QAM modulated signals, for European and potential US CATV implementations. The system includes carrier and timing recovery loops adapted to operate on an enhanced pilot signal as well as decision directed carrier phase recovery loops. Phase detectors operate on I and Q rail signals, or generate a Q rail from a Hilbert transform of the I rail. Decision directed loops incorporate a trellis decoder in order to operate on sequence estimated decisions for improved reliability in poor SNR environments.

An apparatus having a server is disclosed. The server may be configured to (i) receive via a network a first clip of video generated by a camera, (ii) receive via the network first information to edit the first clip, (iii) receive via the network one or more segments of a second clip of video generated by the camera as identified by the first information and (iv) create a third clip of video by editing the segments according to the first information. The second clip is generally a higher resolution version of the first clip. The third clip may have the higher resolution.

In a broadcast receiving system for receiving the digital broadcasting, when the selection of “channel addition/deletion menu” is inputted by the user, received broadcasting signals are decoded to obtain collectively the channel information of the digital/analog broadcasting. Data to be impressed upon the average value of a chrominance portion of a block, is replicated at least once. The original and each replica is impressed on blocks in the same block position of separate frames. The frames that have like-positioned blocks that are carrying the same data are considered to be a group. Specific blocks of the frame may be embedded with a particular known data sequence rather than user data. Each group may employ a different known sequence. Instead of simply repeating the data for each like-positioned block of a group, the amount added to the average value for each such block may be changed slightly from frame to frame in group, even when the complexity of the blocks is the same. At a receiver, the multiple instances of the same data bit are extracted and combined to form a single received bit.

An apparatus and method for detecting a moving object in a sequence of color frame images is provided. The apparatus comprises a color normalizer for normalizing color components of the color frame image to produce a normalized frame image; a color transformer coupled to the color normalizer for color transforming the normalized frame image to a color transformed frame image; the color transformed frame image having intensity levels such that colors corresponding to said moving object are emphasized; a frame delay coupled to the color transformer for delaying the color transformed frame image by one frame; and a motion detector coupled to the color transformer and the frame delay for detecting the motion of the moving object and further intensifying the intensity levels of the color transformed frame image based on the detected motion.

A first interpolation filter is applied to the second component at the second sampling location (LO) and the second component at the third sampling location (L4) to determine the second component at the first sampling location (L(C0)). A color conversion model is applied to the first component at the first sampling location (CO) and to the second component at the first sampling location (L(C0) ) to translate the first component at the first sampling location to a second color space.

A recording medium, on which the reproduction device of one aspect of the present technology performs reproduction, records coded data of an extended video that is a video having a second brightness range that is wider than a first brightness range, brightness characteristic information that represents a brightness characteristic of the extended video, and graphics data that is superimposed on the extended video and that has the first brightness range. The reproduction device converts a first pixel value of the graphics to a second pixel value in the brightness characteristic of the extended video represented by the brightness characteristic information, the second pixel value representing brightness that is equivalent to brightness represented by the first pixel value in a brightness characteristic of the graphics, and synthesizes the extended video, the extended video being obtained by decoding the coded data, together with graphics having the second pixel value. The present technology can be applied to players that reproduce contents.

A signal transmitter and a signal receiver comprises a time base compression part (101) for compressing an audio signal on a time base to output the compressed signal as a time base compressed audio signal and a multiplexing part (102) for multiplexing a video signal, a control signal, and the time base compressed audio signal to output the multiplexed signal to the external as a video/audio control multiplexed signal. An image processing apparatus operates to process signal samples representative of at least part of a color video image to produce legal color signal samples representative of a legal color version of the image. The apparatus comprises an over sampling processor which operates to generate an over sampled version of the input signal samples by generating at least one extra signal sample for each base input signal sample, an adjustment factor generator, which operates to generate a plurality of adjustment factors which when combined with the input signal samples have an effect of converting illegal color pixels of the color image into legal color pixels, a color legalizer coupled to the adjustment factor generator, which operates to combine the adjustment factors with the input signal samples to produce the legalized color signal samples in an over sampled form, an anti-aliasing processor coupled to the color legalizer, which operates to filter selectively the over sampled version of the legalized color signal samples with an anti-aliasing filter in dependence upon whether the legalized color signal samples have changed with respect to the input signal samples and if the legalized color signal samples have not changed, bypassing the filter, and a decimating processor coupled to the color legalizer which operates to decimate the filtered legalised color signal samples to produce legalized signal samples having a sampling rate corresponding to that of the base input signal samples. The anti-aliasing processor filters the legalised color signal samples by selecting the base legalized color signal samples corresponding to the base input signal sample, where neither the base or the associated extra color signal samples have changed with respect to the input signal samples.

An equalizer and an equalization method usable in a high definition television (HDTV) are provided. The equalizer may receive an input signal including a data signal and a training sequence and may compensate for distortion of the input signal in a high definition television. The equalizer may include an input signal reuse unit, a filter unit, and an error calculation unit. The error calculation unit may receive an equalizer output signal, may estimate the equalizer output signal at an estimate value, may generate the estimate value as a decision value, and may output a difference between the equalizer output signal and the decision value as the error signal.

The invention discloses a non-compressed high-definition video signal wireless transmission method based on wavelet transform characteristics, which adds a source-channel combined decoding module of images on the wireless channel between the video source equipment and the television, wherein, the transmitting end reads the original image frame in the external buffer through the source-channel combined decoding module, performs coding protection processing according to the image characteristic and based on wavelet transform, and uses the MIMO channel to expand the transmission band-width for transmitting high-definition video signals; the flow path of the receiving end is reverse. Using the method of the present invention not only eliminates the signal line so that the television equipment is more simple, but also can greatly protect the image quality even in poor channel conditions (such as airports, bus stations and other public environments), showing superiority of supporting the high-definition picture quality of the high-definition digital television.

At the transmitter side, carrier waves are modulated according to an input signal for producing relevant signal points in a signal space diagram. The input signal is divided into, two, first and second, data streams. The signal points are divided into signal point groups to which data of the first data stream are assigned. Also, data of the second data stream are assigned to the signal points of each signal point group. A difference in the transmission error rate between first and second data streams is developed by shifting the signal points to other positions in the space diagram. At the receiver side, the first and/or second data streams can be reconstructed from a received signal. In TV broadcast service, a TV signal is divided by a transmitter into, low and high, frequency band components which are designated as a first and a second data stream respectively. Upon receiving the TV signal, a receiver can reproduce only the low frequency band component or both the low and high frequency band components, depending on its capability.

The embodiment of the invention provides a high-definition video signal transmission method and device. The method comprises the following steps of: separating brightness signals and chrominance signals from high-definition video signals; and transmitting the brightness signals and the chrominance signals respectively by frequency bands which are not overlapped in an analog signal transmission mode. According to the scheme provided by the invention, the brightness signals and the chrominance signals are respectively transmitted by the independent frequency bands in the analog signal transmission mode, so that the brightness signals and the chrominance signals are not affected by one other, therefore, the video quality and real time performance of the high-definition video signals in the process of long-distance transmission can be ensured.

An image processing apparatus for expanding the frequency band of enhancement to increase the effect of improvement of the image quality and realizing enhancement in two dimensions for an image signal by a simple circuit configuration, provided with a vertical high-pass filter, a vertical low-pass filter, a horizontal high-pass filter, and a horizontal low-pass filter as enhancers which extract high frequency components and low frequency components in vertical and horizontal directions, respectively and switches for appropriately selecting a signal of predetermined frequency components in the vertical and horizontal directions to enhance a signal of a predetermined frequency band. Accordingly, two-dimensional filtering is able to be achieved using one-dimensional filters in the vertical and horizontal directions and the enhancement effect can be improved by appropriately selecting the enhancement mode in accordance with the characteristic of the image signal.

A digital television receiver that can perform analog/digital and main/sub picture functions only using an analog tuner and an analog/digital-combined tuner is disclosed. The digital television receiver includes a control section for generating and outputting control signals according to a user's command for selecting a channel and a main/sub picture, an analog tuning section for selecting an RF signal of an analog channel selected by the user among RF signals received through an antenna under the control of the control section, and converting the selected RF signal into an IF signal, and an analog/digital (A/D)-combined tuning section for selecting an RF signal of an analog or digital channel selected by the user among the RF signals received through the antenna under the control of the control section. The main and sub pictures can be constructed using only two tuners irrespective of the analog/digital channels, and thus the manufacturing cost can be reduced with the improvement of the product competitiveness.
