Non-Volatile Memory And Method With Post-Write Read And Adaptive Re-Write To Manage Errors

Data errors in non-volatile memory inevitably increase with usage and with higher density of bits stored per cell. The memory is configured to have a first portion operating with less error but of lower density storage, and a second portion operating with a higher density but less robust storage. Input data is written and staged in the first portion before being copied to the second portion. An error management provides checking the quality of the copied data for excessive error bits. The copying and checking are repeated on a different location in the second portion until either a predetermined quality is satisfied or the number or repeats exceeds a predetermined limit. The error management is not started when a memory is new with little or no errors, but started after the memory has aged to a predetermined amount as determined by the number of erase / program cycling its has experienced.

Neurosurgery targeting and delivery system for brain structures

Morphing or fitting a brain atlas to a diagnostic image data set of the patient, or to a patient registered to the brain atlas, is enhanced using measurements of one or more physical characteristics of the brain taken with the aid of an instrument as it is being inserted into the brain. The measurements are then compared against known physical characteristics of certain brain structures, thus permitting correlation of the measured physical characteristic to a brain structure. The brain atlas then may be morphed or deformed so that the identified brain structure in the atlas is at or near the position at which the measurement was taken, as known from the tracked position of the instrument.

Non-Volatile Memory And Method With Accelerated Post-Write Read To Manage Errors

Data errors in non-volatile memory inevitably increase with usage and with higher density of bits stored per cell. The memory is configured to have a first portion operating with less error but of lower density storage, and a second portion operating with a higher density but less robust storage. An error management provides reading and checking the copy after copying to the second portion. If the copy has excessive error bits, it is repeated in a different location either in the second or first portion. The reading and checking of the copy is accelerated by reading only a sample of it. The sample is selected from a subset of the copy having its own ECC and estimated to represent a worst error rate among the copy it is sampling. One embodiment has the sample taken from one bit of each multi-bit memory cell of a group.

Non-Volatile Memory And Method With Post-Write Read And Adaptive Re-Write To Manage Errors

Data errors in non-volatile memory inevitably increase with usage and with higher density of bits stored per cell. For acceptable quality assurance, conventional error correction codes (“ECC”) have to correct a maximum number of error bits up to the far tail end of a statistical population. The present memory is configured to have a first portion operating with less error but of lower density storage, and a second portion operating with a higher density but less robust storage. If excessive error bits (at the far tail-end) occur after writing a group of data to the second portion, the data is adaptively rewritten to the first portion which will produce less error bits. Preferably, the data is initially written to a cache also in the first portion to provide source data for any rewrites. Thus, a more efficient ECC not requiring to correcting for the far tail end can be used.

Piggybacking of ECC corrections behind loads

An apparatus including circuitry configured to detect and correct an ECC error in a non-targeted portion of a load access to a first data in a memory. An ECC error check circuit is configured to convey a first indication in response to detecting an error in a non-targeted first portion of the first data. A microcode unit is coupled to receive the first indication that the ECC check circuit has detected the ECC error and in response to the indication dispatch a first microcode routine stored by the microcode unit. The first microcode routine includes instructions which, when executed, correct the ECC error in the first portion. Correction of the error in the first portion does not include cancellation of data corresponding to the load access.

System and method for color copy image processing

A system and method of processing an image including black text data and non-black text data are described. The system and method use a parametric analysis for discrimination of halftones, texts, and photographs. The parametric analysis provides results that track measurable image metrics without the inherent risk of errant decision making during classification. The creation of symbolic representations is intrinsically a classification process that is subject to error. It represents a fundamental departure from fuzzy logic image segmentation. In the parametric analysis, no pattern matching, no auto-correlation, no screening parameter calculation, and no conventional edge detector (such as a high pass filter) are used.

Techniques for automated data cleansing for machine learning algorithms

Machine learning models typically are based on processing large-volume datasets, and datasets are preprocessed so that the machine learning can provide sound results. In building a model, certain example embodiments generate meta-features for each of a number of independent variables in an accessed portion of the dataset. The meta-features are provided as input to pre-trained classification models. Those models output, for the independent variables, indications of one or more appropriate missing value imputation operations, and one or more appropriate other preprocessing data cleansing related operations. The data in the dataset is transformed by selectively applying the missing value imputation operation(s) and the other preprocessing operation(s), in accordance with the independent variables associated with the data, thereby performing the preprocessing in an automated and programmatic way that helps improve the quality of the built model. Ultimately, queries received over a computer-mediated interface can be processed using the built machine learning model.
