Method for measuring movements of a person wearing a portable detector

A process for detecting activity of a person, in which movements of the person are measured by at least one sensor attached to the person, and respective components of the movements due to external activity and due to physiological activity are separated. The process obtains a signal of the sensor, filters the signal to derive a filtered signal, the filtering including partitioning the signal of the center into a low frequency component and high frequency component, and subtracts the filtered signal from the signal of the sensor. The filtering further variably extracts portions of the high frequency component according to a criterion of either a minimal level or a minimal instability of the signal of the sensor, and the filtered signal includes the low frequency component and the extracted portions of the high frequency components.

Adjustable pulley for fluid-operated transmissions

An adjustable pulley for use in a continuous variable transmission in the power train of a motor vehicle has an axially fixed first conical flange and an axially movable second conical flange. The hydraulic control system which moves the second flange relative to the first flange is provided with at least one first plenum chamber which receives pressurized fluid when the second flange is to move toward the first flange, and with an additional plenum chamber which receives pressurized fluid when the second flange is to move away from the first flange. The admission of pressurized fluid into the additional chamber is regulated in dependency upon the RPM of the flanges. Rapid evacuation of pressurized fluid from the additional chamber can take place by way of a relief valve which opens when the pressure of fluid in the additional chamber rises to a preselected value. This renders it possible to rapidly shift between overdrive and underdrive.

Surface inspection method and surface inspection apparatus

When detecting light scattered by an object to be inspected by using a pulse laser as a light source, noise increases unless a sampling repletion period of an A / D converter is determined so as to be related to a pulse oscillation repetition period of the light source. (1) The sampling repletion period of the A / D converter is set equal to the pulse oscillation repetition period of the light source or an integer times thereof, and the sampling is synchronized with oscillation of the light source. Or (2) the sampling repletion period of the A / D converter is set equal to a half-integer times the pulse oscillation repetition period of the light source. Even if a ripple component resulting from emission pulses of the light source remains in the scattered light signal supplied to the A / D converter remains, therefore, its influence can be eliminated or reduced.

Movable arm and design method of movable arm

A movable arm includes a base secured to a mounting surface; a movable body pivotally attached to the base to rotate about the base and carrying an object; and a restoring body for biasing the movable body to a home position. An elastic modulus of the restoring body, a deformation amount of the restoring body in the home position and dimensions of individual parts are determined to ensure that the gravity acting on the movable body and the biasing force exerted by the restoring body are balanced regardless of the position of the movable body. Therefore, the position of the movable body can be maintained by the elastic force of the restoring body regardless of the frictional force and thus the movable arm is hardly affected by the wear, attaining a greater life span than in a case of maintaining the movable body by the frictional force.
