Polyaxial bone screw with torqueless fastening

An adjustable spinal fixation system is composed of a collection of anchoring assemblies attached, via a variety of connectors, to spine-stabilizing rods. The anchoring assemblies include a linking member attached in a ball-and-socket fashion to a bone-engaging member that is adapted to engage a spinal bone of a patient. The linking member joins one of the included connectors to an associated bone-engaging member. The connectors are selectively attached to one of the stabilizing rods. The anchoring assemblies each include a support collar and a split retention ring that cooperate to allow adjustment of the bone-engaging member and corresponding connector during surgery. When surgery is complete, a linear engaging fastener cooperates with the support collar and split retention ring to maintain the relative position of the entire fixation system, preventing unwanted movement between the system components.

Picoprojector with Image Stabilization [Image-Stabilized Projector]

A handheld projector is provided with an image stabilization system that acts to reduce (or even eliminate) unwanted motion of the projected image due to unintended movement of the projector. In certain preferred embodiments, a solid-state motion sensor provides input to an image stabilization system that computes a corrective signal. In embodiments having optical image stabilization, the corrective signal is supplied to a mechanical actuator that moves one or more optical elements within the projector. Other embodiments have electronic image stabilization. In these embodiments, the corrective signal from the image stabilization system is used by the image generator to shift the image so as to compensate for movement of the projector.

Stabilization of three-dimensional images in a scannerless range imaging system

A method for generating a stabilized three-dimensional image from a scannerless range imaging system comprises the steps of acquiring a bundle of three or more phase offset images corresponding to modulated illumination reflected from a scene, whereby one or more of the phase offset images includes image motion relative to another phase offset image; searching for a stable chain of phase offset images in the image bundle, wherein a stable chain is a collection of images that is obtained by testing the phase offset images against a confidence measure that separates less severe correctable image motion from more severe image motion and then populating the stable chain only with those phase offset images that meet the confidence measure for correctable image motion; correcting for the image motion in the stable chain of images if a stable chain of at least three phase offset images is found to exist; and computing a stabilized three-dimensional image using the phase offset images from the stable chain of phase offset images.

Stabilized equipment support and method of balancing same

A stabilized support for supporting motion-sensitive, ultra-lightweight, camera equipment includes a hollow platform on which the camera equipment is mounted, and a structure on which the platform is detachably mounted. The structure has a handle, a counterweight mounted below the platform, and an arm for connecting the handle with the counterweight. The platform has a plurality of interior compartments preferably arranged in generally parallel rows at opposite sides of the platform, each row extending past a center of gravity. A plurality of ballast weights is held and confined in the interior compartments within the platform to balance the support when held by the handle, or supported by optional support legs. The placement of the ballast weights is based on a balancing procedure in which the camera equipment is balanced relative to a stationary horizontal support surface.

Multi leaf extendable gear hinge

InactiveUS20080216288A1Smooth operate actionEasy to operateVehicle seatsWing accessoriesHinge angleEngineering
The present invention is an extremely compact three leaf geared hinge that is adapted to handle heavy loads, tightly fold back onto itself for space conservation, offer extensive freedom of movement in the horizontal plane and provide an extremely smooth operating action with minimal play in torsion as well as in axial or transverse motions. The hinge has three interconnected leaves jointed by hinge pins. The inner and outer leaves each have two fixed gears on their sides that meshingly engage a set of two rotating gears located on the sides of the middle leaf. The inner leaf has a cylindrical leaf and pin arrangement on one end that may be rotatably secured to a rigid member or housing. The free end of the outer leaf may be attached to the load directly or with a device that allows the load to rotate normally about the extended hinge.

Precision vibration-isolation system with floor feedforward assistance

Apparatus and methods to reduce unwanted motion in precision instruments are described. An active vibration-isolation system may include a feedback loop that senses motion of an intermediate mass. In noisy environments, where the feedback loop would otherwise fail or provide inadequate isolation, feedforward control can be implemented to sense floor vibrations and reduce motion of the intermediate mass that would otherwise be induced by the floor vibrations. The feedforward control can reduce motion of the intermediate mass to a level that allows the feedback loop to operate satisfactorily.

Hinged glider mechanism

A hinged glider mechanism includes a hinge device for pivoted mounting in a chair between a stationary base frame and a seat frame, for supporting the seat frame for oscillatory gliding motion generally longitudinally relative to the base frame. The hinge device is configured for repeated substantially silent pivotal oscillating cycles over an extended life. The hinge device includes a hinge panel consisting essentially of a polymeric material, such as acetal copolymer, that is characterized by a sufficient strength and durability to support the seat frame and a seat occupant during repeated and extended pivotal oscillating cycles without failure and a sufficient lubricity not to generate noise during the repeated and extended pivotal oscillating cycles.

Orthopedic device and method for lower limb elevation and stabilization

A support device provides elevation and support for a patient's foot, including ankle and heal, and limits lateral and medial rotation of the foot. This protects the knee from injury while healing. The device includes a generally flat main body, two spaced-apart lateral ridges, and a medial depression between the lateral ridges that provides a support surface on which the foot may be positioned. The lateral ridges can extend to a height above the support surface so that inner side surfaces of the lateral ridges are adjacent to a majority of a foot placed in the medial depression. The lateral ridges can terminate below a top of the foot to permit unrestricted ventilation and access to the foot. The lateral ridges can be spaced apart to facilitate placement of a foot onto and removal of the foot from the support surface without manual manipulation of the device.

Portable device to limit unwanted movement of drums and other musical instruments

A portable musical instrument blocking device (1) to limit unwanted movement of a musical instrument during use. The blocking device engages said musical instrument's forward-facing leading edge where kinetic energy of the musical instrument's forward motion is transferred to the main body (2). A gripping material (10) on the blocking device's downward-facing surface grips the floor surface (9) and thereby limits movement on the floor plane. Engagement between the blocking device and the musical instrument is such that kinetic energy of the musical instrument's upward motion is not substantially transferred to the blocking device. The blocking device can be easily detached from the floor surface with application of manual force in the upward direction.
