A non-invasive physiologic signs monitoring device includes a garment with electrocardiogram electrodes and various inductive plethysmographic sensors sewn, embroidered, embedded, or otherwise attached to the garment with an adhesive. The garment is in the form of a shirt. When the garment is fitted over the torso of the patient to be monitored, the electrodes and sensors generate signals in response to the physiologic signs of the patient. The signals are transmitted to a recording / alarm device where they are monitored for adverse conditions and logged. When an adverse condition or other preprogrammed condition occurs, a message is communicated to the patient by either an audio message or a display. The recording / alarm unit is also connectable to a remote receiving unit for monitoring by a health care professional or other machine.

If the communication request is for a non-emergency communication, the non-emergency communication is inhibited during the existence of the predetermined condition. If the communication request is for an emergency communication, however, the emergency communication is allowed despite the existence of the predetermined condition. The emergency communication may be allowed at a reduced transmit power and / or using limited coding / modulation methods. The emergency communication may be a “911” voice call or an emergency message. The reception of communications may still be allowed but inhibited upon more adverse conditions.

Aspects of the invention include a sustained release dosage form that can be administered to an oral cavity, e.g., the mouth. In certain embodiments, the sustained release dosage form includes a biocompatible, water-insoluble polymer, e.g., ethylcellulose and an essential oil component, which are combined in such a manner so as to produce a dosage form that substantially dissolves over a prolonged period of time when positioned within an aqueous environment, such as an oral cavity of a user. In certain embodiments, the sustained release dosage form may include an additional water soluble agent, such as gum arabic, which may be included so as to further provide the dosage form with a desired dissolution characteristic. In certain embodiments, the dosage form may also include a beneficial agent to be delivered to the mouth. Methods of formulating such dosage forms and administering them to an oral cavity for the treatment of an adverse condition are also provided herein.

Apparatus and method to enhance the life of Light Emitting diode (LED) devices in an LED matrix

The present invention is an apparatus to enhance the Life of LED devices in an LED matrix for illumination. It comprises of a spare LED matrix in addition to a main LED matrix. It further comprises of a constant current source which is the power source. Such constant current source is coupled directly to said main LED matrix and powers it up accordingly. In adverse conditions, say when the ambient temperature is high, continuous operation of said main LED matrix at full power will deteriorate the LED life. A power converter coupled to said constant current source operates and draws current to power on said spare LED matrix. This relieves said main LED matrix from full power and the reduction in illumination is largely compensated by said spare LED matrix. This invention further comprises a controller which senses temperature and other parameters and operates said spare LED matrix intelligently. The present invention is also a method to operate said apparatus to maximize LED life or to maximize illumination.
