Reducing the effects of noise in non-volatile memories through multiple reads

Storage elements are read multiple times and the results are accumulated and averaged for each storage element to reduce the effects of noise or other transients in the storage elements and associated circuits that may adversely affect the quality of the read. Several techniques may be employed, including: A full read and transfer of the data from the storage device to the controller device for each iteration, with averaging performed by the controller; a full read of the data for each iteration, with the averaging performed by the storage device, and no transfer to the controller until the final results are obtained; one full read followed by a number of faster re-reads exploiting the already established state information to avoid a full read, followed by an intelligent algorithm to guide the state at which the storage element is sensed. These techniques may be used as the normal mode of operation, or invoked upon exception condition, depending on the system characteristics. A similar form of signal averaging may be employed during the verify phase of programming. An embodiment of this technique would use a peak-detection scheme. In this scenario, several verify checks are performed at the state prior to deciding if the storage element has reached the target state. If some predetermined portion of the verifies fail, the storage element receives additional programming. These techniques allow the system to store more states per storage element in the presence of various sources of noise.

Method and system for maintaining information about modified data in cache in a storage system for use during a system failure

Disclosed is a system and method for caching data. A processor receives data from a host to modify a track in a first storage device. The processor stores a copy of the modified data in a cache and indicates in a second storage device the tracks for which there is modified data in cache. During data recovery operations, the processor processes the second storage device and data therein to determine the tracks for which there was modified data in cache. The processor then marks the determined tracks as failed to prevent data at the determined tracks in the first storage device from being returned in response to a read request until the failure is resolved. In further embodiments, in response to detecting a partial failure within the storage system, the processor would scan the cache to determine tracks for which there is modified data stored in the cache. The processor then stores in the second storage device information indicating the tracks having modified data in cache and schedules the destaging of the modified data from the cache to the first storage device. The processor is further capable of receiving and processing read/write requests directed to the first storage device before all the modified data is destaged from cache.

Vibration response simulation analyzing method for rolling bearing with single-point failures

ActiveCN103927414ASolve the problem of long cycle and high costSpecial data processing applicationsEngineeringMATLAB
The invention relates to a vibration response simulation analyzing method for a rolling bearing with single-point failures. On the basis of a Hertz contact theory, related knowledge about kinematics and kinetics are utilized to establish a five-degree-of-freedom nonlinear vibration mode of a rolling bearing and kinetic differential equations of the rolling bearing while influencing factors like slipping of rolling balls, oil slick rigidity and the like are taken into consideration, according to that the rolling balls change due to contact deformation is caused when the rolling balls roll through partial failures, a partial failure model of the rolling bearing is introduced into the kinetic differential equations of the rolling bearing, and the single-point failures of the rolling bearing are classified according to length-width ratios of the failures and size ratios between the failures and the rolling balls so as to establish different failure shape functions; the differential equations are solved by an ode solver in MATLAB (matrix laboratory) software, and vibration responses of the rolling bearing are simulated when an inner ring, an outer ring and the rolling balls of the rolling bearing are suffered from the single-point failures. By the aid of the vibration response simulation analyzing method, vibration responses of the bearings with failures in different sizes can be simulated. Compared with traditional methods for acquiring vibration responses of failed bearings, the vibration response simulation analyzing method has the advantages that an experimental period is short and experimental cost is saved. The computation for the vibration responses for the failed rolling bearings can lay the foundation of late failure diagnosis for the rolling bearings.

Topological structure generating method, device and system for distributed storage system

The invention discloses a topological structure generating method for a distributed storage system. The topological structure generating method for a distributed storage system includes the steps: acquiring topological information in a topology update message by a main node; determining whether the topological information is the existing topology information; and if not, updating a topological list according to the topological information. Therefore, as a child node sends an LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) broadcast message carrying the topological information to the main node, the topological structure generating method for a distributed storage system can realize that an underlying protocol of topology discovery can be changed into a link layer protocol from TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol), thus expanding the application scene, and being able to acquire the latest topological structure in the local area network on the premise of guaranteeing partial failure or initialization scenes. Besides, the topological structure generating method for a distributed storage system optimizes the process of topology discovery without the demand for asking a customerto perform any operations, and can realize complete topology of the local area network and improve the user experience as the child node sends the LLDP broadcast message to the local area network actively. The invention also discloses a topological structure generating device and system for a distributed storage system, being able to implement the above technical effect.
