A method and a system for simulating the minimally invasive medical procedure of urological endoscopy. The system is designed to simulate the actual medical procedure of urological endoscopy as closely as possible by providing botha simulated medical instrument, and tactile and visual feedback as the simulated procedure is performed on the simulated patient. Particularly preferred features include a multi-path solution for virtual navigation in a complex anatomy, the simulation of the effect of the beating heart on the urethra as it crosses the illiac vessel, and the simulated operation of a guidewire within the urethra In addition, the system and method optionally and more preferably incorporate the effect of dynamic contrast injection of dye into the urethra for fluoroscopy. The injection of such dye, and the subsequent visualization of the urological organ system in the presence of the endoscope, must be accurately simulated in terms of accurate visual feedback. Thus, the system and method provide a complete solution to the complex and difficult problem of training students in urological endoscopy procedures.

An endoscopy suite is adaptable for carrying out a plurality of endoscopy procedures and/or for supporting several endoscopes being used simultaneously in a given procedure. The endoscopy suite comprises a memory unit in which are stored a plurality of predetermined sets of parameters. A pressure monitoring device is provided for use with a tool such as a medical endoscope. The device includes a housing which is fluidically coupled with an internal volume of the endoscope. A pump is used to change the pressure inside the device housing and endoscope, thereby establishing a pressure differential from the ambient environment. The method comprises the following steps: calibrating a lens of the endoscope; training an image semantic segmentation network suitable for the endoscope image target; carrying out target segmentation on an endoscope image in the endoscope examination, extracting size information of the object image, and recording corresponding pose data; and calculating the size of the to-be-measured target through a multi-view geometrical relationship by using the size information of the two groups of object images and the pose data of the two groups of object images. According to the method, the target in the endoscope image can be tracked in real time on the premise of not changing the current endoscope examination program, the size of the target is accurately measured, and the examination efficiency and accuracy are improved.

An introducer for use during endoscopic procedures provides insufflation, washing, and aspiration functions, and provides for the protection of the endoluminal surface during laparoscopic examination of an anastomosis or suture line following low anterior resection of the bowel. The introducer may be designed for the insertion of an endoscope capable of white light and/or near infra-red fluorescence imaging into the rectum for analysis of an anastomosis following low anterior resection of the bowel.

A method for visualization guidance of device-to-image registration includes acquiring image data of a patient, generating a 3D model of the anatomy of the patient based on the image data, performing initial registration between image space and device space, advancing a device into a structure, tracking trajectory of the device in relation to the model, determining divergence between the device trajectory and the model, and effecting correction to the model or the device trajectory to minimize the divergence.
