185 results about "Newel" patented technology

A newel, also called a central pole or support column, is the central supporting pillar of a staircase. It can also (usually as "newel post") refer to an upright post that supports the handrail of a stair banister. In stairs having straight flights it is the principal post at the foot of the staircase, but the term can also be used for the intermediate posts on landings and at the top of a staircase. Although its primary purpose is structural, newels have long been adorned with decorative trim and designed with different architectural styles.

Artificial intervertebral disc having a bored semispherical bearing with a compression locking post and retaining caps

An artificial intervertebral disc having a pair of opposing baseplates, for seating against opposing vertebral bone surfaces, uses a semispherical, bored bearing that is secured to the baseplates with compression locking posts and one or more retaining caps. The compression locking posts extend through the bearing bore and baseplate apertures such that the bearing is between the baseplates' inwardly facing surfaces. Retaining caps are attached to the compression locking posts, securing the baseplates to the bearing. Bearing surfaces on the inwardly facing side of each baseplate allow each baseplate to rotate relative to the bearing, however, rotation of each baseplate is limited by the interference of each baseplate and its respective retaining cap. Rotation of the baseplates about the longitudinal axis of the spine can be limited via a notch in the retaining caps and a groove in the baseplates, or vice versa.

Bridge overhang bracket

An overhang bracket has a top member, a side member and a diagonal member. The side and top member may be connected together through a removable connecter. A guardrail post holder allows a guardrail post to be installed at a variety of angles to the top member. Rotating the side member causes the diagonal member to translate up or down the side member. A side member locator extends upwards from the overhang bracket to indicate the location of the side member. A tie rod holder holds a tie rod in an offset position relative to the side member. The side member locator may extend upwards through further parts of the shoring system or bridge overhang structure, for example a floor of a concrete form or rebar. A worker may adjust the overhang bracket in place from a standing position on a supporting structure or the floor of the form.

Electrical connector to terminate, insulate and environmentally isolate multiple temporary cardiac pacing wires

A connector device, for a temporary cardiac pacing wire, includes a conductive adaptor and a cover section which completely electrically insulates the adaptor and environmentally isolates it. The conductive adaptor comprises a contact receiving end having an aperture therein and a plug portion for plugging into a suitable medical instrument. One or more conductive adaptors are received in a housing comprising a first, or upper section connected by a hinge to a second or lower section. The adaptor is received in the lower section and the plug portion thereof merges inside of a forward barrel portion. A rib in the bottom section cooperates with a pair of ribs on the top section to pinch the pacing wires and hold them in position. A locking post on the inside of the upper cover exerts sufficient frictional stub sections of the electrodes so that they cannot move after the adaptors have been properly positioned inside the lower housing. A cap over the barrel prevents the interior plugs from accidentally contacting an external ground. When the upper section is locked with regard to the lower section, the interior stubs are effectively shielded from exterior strain, electrical contact or dislodgement due to vibration.
