A marine power distribution arrangement includes a turbine-driven AC generator which supplies AC power at a frequency of 240 Hz through a switchgear unit to a transformer and a first power converter by which the power is converted to a variable frequency, variable voltage AC output for ship propulsion and to a second power converter by which the AC power is converted to a fixed voltage, fixed AC frequency or DC power to supply the ship service loads. A battery backup power supply may be switched in an emergency. In another embodiment four turbine-driven AC generators and two emergency power supplies are provided to drive two propulsion shafts as well as to supply the ship service loads.

A bearing lubrication device in a right angle gear reducer includes a gear housing having an interior portion and a lubricating fluid reservoir therein. An oil slinger, rotating pinion shaft, pinion shaft housing, and bearings for supporting the pinion shaft within the pinion shaft housing work together to provide a continuous supply of oil to the bearings. The pinion shaft includes two radially and longitudinally extending passageways therethrough which supply oil from a recess in one end of the pinion shaft to the bearings. Oil is slung from the reservoir into the recess of the rotating pinion shaft where it is forced outwardly and through the passageways to a chamber formed by the rotating pinion shaft, shaft housing and bearings. The roller bearings pump the oil from the chamber back to the fluid reservoir. Oil passageways in the shaft housing enable the return of oil from one bearing set.

An engine sound synthesizer includes an engine sound storing section, and a synthetic engine sound data generating section which generates synthetic engine sound data on the basis of engine sound data stored in the engine sound storing section. The engine sound storing section stores therein plural groups of plural entities of engine sound data recorded in different driving states, the plural groups of plural engine sound data entities being stored therein in correspondence with predetermined plural driving state ranges. The synthetic engine sound data generating section generates the synthetic engine sound data by selectively reading out of the engine sound storing section plural engine sound data entities in a group corresponding to one of the driving state ranges specified by externally input driving state specification information and selectively combining the read engine sound data entities. The driving states are each defined, for example, by a throttle opening degree and an engine rotation speed.

A sound synthesizer for a vehicle includes a driving operation detector that detects an operation amount of a driving operation input device by a driver. A speed calculator calculates a revolution speed of a drive unit based on the detected operation amount. A sound controller outputs a sound control signal based on an input of the operation amount and based on the revolution speed. A memory stores drive sound data in advance. A synthesized sound output generator reads out drive sound data from the memory and outputs a voltage signal corresponding to a sound pressure signal. The memory divides the operational state of the drive unit into plural stages by using the operation amount and the revolution speed as parameters. Preferably, multiple sound synthesizers are interconnected to a server so that sound data can be downloaded to the sound synthesizers from the server.

A modular mobile robot with a chassis including a power source housed therein. Right and left hand track modules are each removeably coupled to the robot chassis. A hybrid propulsion system includes a main diesel engine for driving the marine turbine and an electric motor. The electric motor has a nominal output that constitutes at least 20% of the nominal output of the main diesel engine. Automatic recharging of the robot can be realized without an active light source, in this way, the cost for the robot is lowered, and meanwhile equipment flexibility is high.
