Directional electromagnetic wave resistivity apparatus and method

A novel on-the-fly data processing technique is useful for extracting signals from the azimuthal variation of the directional measurements acquired by a logging tool within a borehole. The relevant boundary, anisotropy and fracture signals are extracted from the formation response through fitting of the azimuthal variation of the measured voltages to some sinusoidal functions. The orientation of the bedding is also obtained as a result. The extracted directional signals are useful for obtaining boundary distances and making geosteering decisions. Two techniques involving inversion and cross-plotting may be employed, depending on the nature of the boundary. A Graphical User Interface (GUI) is part of a system to facilitate flexible definition of inversion objectives, for improving the inversion results, and for visualization of the formation model as well as inversion measurements.

Method for characterizing a subsurface formation with a logging instrument disposed in a borehole penetrating the formation

A method is described for characterizing a subsurface formation with a logging instrument disposed in a borehole penetrating the formation. The logging instrument is equipped with at least a transmitter system and a receiver system. The method entails positioning the logging instrument within the borehole so that the transmitter system and receiver system are disposed in the vicinity of a formation boundary of interest and measuring the azimuthal orientation of the logging instrument. Electromagnetic energy is transmitted into the formation using the transmitter system and signals associated with the transmitted electromagnetic energy are measured using the receiver system. The method further entails determining the relative azimuth of the formation boundary, composing a symmetrized directional measurement using the measured signals and the determined relative boundary azimuth, and determining the relative dip of the formation boundary using the composed directional measurement.

System and method for power management of plural information handling systems

Information handling system power consumption across plural information handling systems, such as a rack of servers, is managed to restrict operations of the information handling systems to within a maximum total power consumption. Power consumption is restricted if necessary to maintain a level below the maximum by selectively operating one or more information handling systems in a reduced power mode or by disapproving operation of one or more information handling systems. Monitoring of power consumption and configuration of reduced power consumption modes is managed by a management controller associated with each information handling system.

Internal shoe sizing apparatus and method for sizing shoes

There is disclosed an internal sizing apparatus comprising a pneumatically activated probe that moves axially within a shoe and non-destructively measures the interior dimensions of the shoe. A linear pneumatic actuator is mounted between a heel piece and a probe. A linear potentiometer is mounted above the actuator and also connects to the probe. The apparatus is inserted into a shoe with the heel piece seated against the interior heel portion of the shoe. A computer system controlling the actuator extends the probe linearly into the shoe until the probe contacts the toe portion of the shoe. The potentiometer then measures the linear distance traveled by the probe and thus determines the internal linear dimension of the shoe. Depending on the type of probe, three-dimensional internal measurements of the shoe can also be quantified.

Tape measure attachment

An apparatus can be conveniently and temporarily attached to a tape measure to aid in measuring a workpiece. The apparatus has a means of engaging a workpiece at one end of a length to be measured, and has a means of removably attaching to the tape measure. The attachment mechanism consists of a rigid, substantially flat member which is designed to rest under the tape, with two tabs protruding upwards from said rigid member. Each tab has at least one kerf formed in the side of that tab which is adjacent to the tape when the rigid member rests under the tape, so that the curving edges of the tape fit into those kerfs, holding the apparatus in place. In this manner, the apparatus is conveniently attachable to and removable from the tape. Furthermore, while the apparatus is attached to the tape, the apparatus adds stability to the tape, by reinforcing the position of the curving edges of the tape. Also, the apparatus can be conveniently slid along the tape to whatever position is appropriate for engaging a workpiece to be measured. The engagement mechanism of the apparatus consists of a rigid, substantially flat member which is attached to the attachment mechanism at a substantially ninety degree angle, so that the rigid engagement member is substantially perpendicular to the tape. One surface of the engagement member is designed to rest against and engage a workpiece to be measured, in a manner which does not harm or mar the workpiece. The surface engaging the workpiece can be tacky, or can have a protrusion designed to insert into a hollow workpiece, such as a pipe.

Multi-purpose measuring tool

A multi-purpose measuring tool has an elongate base and arm pivotally connected at rounded ends thereof in an angularly variable relation to perform multiple functions, including measuring inclines, measuring corner angles, measuring distances, use as a square, use as a bevel gauge and use as a torpedo level. A retractable measuring tape housed within the arm has a terminal finger gripping end adapted to be pulled away from the arm and removably attached to a distal end of the base. The measuring tape is dual purpose in that one side of the tape is used for determining the angle of the arm relative to the base to perform some of the above functions, and the other side of the tape is used for traditional linear distance measurements. The tool's base includes a "vertical" bubble level and the arm includes a "horizontal" bubble level to perform some of the above functions.

Measuring device

A measuring device includes a square ruler body provided with a plurality of scales, a plurality of marking lines, and a plurality of counting numbers. Each of the counting numbers has a corresponding numeral which is located under the respective the counting number for measurement of different directions. Thus, the measuring device is used to measure the size of the workpiece at any direction and any start point, thereby greatly saving the measuring time and the manual work. In addition, the counting numbers have a two-dimensional corresponding manner so that the measuring device can obtain the size of the workpiece instantaneously from left to right or from right to left without having to rotate or change the direction of the ruler body.
