The basic laser systems may include flash-lamp and diode pumped UV solid state lasers (193-215 nm), compact excimer laser (193 nm), free-running Er:glass (1.54 microns), Ho:YAG (2.1 microns), Q-switched Er:YAG (2.94 microns), and tunable IR lasers, (750-1100) nm and (2.5-3.2) microns. The advantages of the non-contact, scanning device used in the process over other prior art lasers include being safer, reduced cost, more compact and more precise and with greater flexibility. The theory of beam overlap and of ablation rate and coagulation patterns is also disclosed for system parameters. Lasers are selected with energy of (0.01-10) mJ, repetition rate of (1-10,000), pulse duration of 0.01 nanoseconds to a few hundreds of microseconds, and with spot size of (0.05-2) mm for use with refractive laser surgery.

Processing a video for vascular pattern detection and cardiac function analysis

What is disclosed is a non-contact system and method for determining cardiac function parameters from a vascular pattern identified from RGB and IR video signals captured simultaneously of a region of exposed skin of a subject of interest. In one embodiment, a video of a region of exposed skin is captured using a video camera that captures color values for pixels over visible channels and an IR camera that measures pixel intensity values in wavelength ranges of interest. Pixel intensity values are processed to generate a vascular binary mask that indicates pixel locations corresponding to the vascular pathways. The IR images are registered with corresponding data from the camera's visible channels such that pixels that correspond to the vascular pattern can be isolated in each frame of the video of visible color data. Once processed, pixels associated with the isolated vascular patterns are analyzed to determine desired cardiac function parameters.

Indexing of digitized entities

The invention relates to indexing of digitized entities in a large and comparatively unstructured data collection, for instance the Internet, such that text-based searches with respect to the data collection can be ordered via a user client terminal. Index information is generated for each digitized entity, which contains distinctive features being ranked according to a rank parameter. The rank parameter indicates a degree of relevance of particular distinctive feature with respect to a given digitized entity and is derived from fields or tags associated with one or more copies of the digitized entity in the data collection. The index information is stored in a searchable database, which is accessible via a user client interface and a search engine. The derived distinctive features and the rank parameter thus provides a possibility to carry out text-based searches in respect of non-text digitized entities, such as images, audio files and video sequences and obtain a highly relevant search result.

Error handling and audience measurement in datacast network with return channel

A data broadcast network with a return channel providing a guaranteed error-free data delivery simultaneously to multiple receiving devices. The network transmits data in packets and uses the return channel for audience measurement and packets recovery. Whenever a corrupted packet is detected, the multiple receiving devices play a kind of “lottery game” running generators of random numbers, and only “winners” submit retransmission requests over the return channel. While in the game each receiver acts on its own, it is advised by the sender on the audience size, i.e. the overall number of receivers. It allows setting the game so to limit the number of retransmission requests to just a few and to keep it independent from the audience size. The sender performs the audience measurement by transmitting packets with wrong error-checking values and evaluating receivers' responses.

Measurement of EEG Reactivity

ActiveUS20080194981A1Enhances patient monitoringAccurate detectionElectroencephalographySensorsMethod testMedicine
The invention relates to a method and apparatus for assessing the reactivity observable in a certain physiological signal, especially the EEG signal, of a comatose subject. In order to obtain an objective and a reliable measure of the reactivity automatically and without the presence of a trained EEG specialist, a valid signal model is constructed for an EEG signal obtained from the subject. A time reference corresponding to a stimulus is applied and further signal data is obtained from the time series, the further signal data being subsequent to the time reference. By employing the further signal data, the method tests whether the signal model remains to be a valid signal model for the EEG signal also after the stimulus, and indicates, based on the test, whether reactivity is present in the physiological signal.
