Situation sensitive memory performance

The present invention presents a non-volatile memory system that adapts its performance to one or more system related situation. If a situation occurs where the memory will require more than the allotted time for completing an operation, the memory can switch from its normal operating mode to a high performance mode in order to complete the operation quickly enough. Conversely, if a situation arises where reliability could be an issue (such as partial page programming), the controller could switch to a high reliability mode. In either case, once the trigging system situation has returned to normal, the memory reverts to the normal operation. The detection of such situations can be used both for programming and data relocation operations. An exemplary embodiment is based on firmware programmable performance.

Method and system for providing load-sensitive bandwidth allocation

An approach is provided for managing bandwidth in a data network. Capacity is allocated on a communication channel, which can be utilized for transporting data traffic or support network administrative functions (e.g., ranging), for a terminal to transmit data over the communication channel. In anticipation of the terminal having to transmit additional data, additional capacity is allocated on the communication channel for the terminal prior to receiving a request for bandwidth by the terminal. The anticipatory allocation is determined according to loading of the data network. This approach as particular applicability to shared capacity systems, such as a satellite communication system.

System and associated terminal, method and computer program product for protecting content

A system for protecting content includes a terminal capable of receiving content and storing the content in memory. The system also includes a first network entity capable of adding padding data to the received content, where the content and padding data form aggregate content having a size greater than a size of the content. Alternatively, the first network entity can modify a file allocation table entry of content stored by the terminal to thereby increase a perceived size of the content. A second network entity of the system is capable of accessing the aggregate content, and thereafter extracting the received content from the aggregate content upon request for the received content. Alternatively, the second network entity can extract the file allocation table entry of the received content from the modified file allocation table entry, and thereafter assemble the received content from the file allocation table entry of the received content.

Actuatable flow conditioning apparatus

An actuatable apparatus, such as a mixer or flow splitter, is described that forms part of a multiphase pumping station. An outer tank has an upper inlet and an actuatable inner vessel disposed within the outer vessel. Multiphase fluid can pass from the outer vessel into the inner vessel though large upper openings. The inner vessel is configured to be actuatable such that the inner vessel moves in a vertical direction, thereby altering the size of an annular opening between the bottom of the inner vessel and the outer vessel. In some cases, the annular opening is adjusted to alter the operating envelope of a mixer. In other cases, the annular opening is opened to allow for sand cleaning. In yet other cases the apparatus is a downstream flow splitter, and the annulus is shut off to prevent loss of liquid phase during the startup of a dead field.

Temperature compensation improvements in radar apparatus

A radar-based distance measurement apparatus comprises a microwave circuit comprising a frequency generator which produces a microwave frequency signal, the frequency of which is modulated by an amount determined by a modulation signal applied to the frequency generator, a temperature sensor which measures the temperature of at least a part of the microwave circuit, compensating means for processing the output of the temperature sensor to produce a compensated temperature signal using information derived from the drive signal and an echo signal detected by a microwave detector; and a frequency regulating means which is adapted to receive the compensated temperature signal and to regulate the frequency of the signal generated by the frequency generator, thereby at least partially correcting for the effect of changes in temperature of the frequency generator. Because the compensating means modifies the output of the temperature sensor in a closed loop using information derived from an echo signal, the frequency regulating means can regulate the frequency output by the frequency generator—keeping it as close as possible to an ideal constant value—despite changes in its temperature.
