Disclosed is a strip of bandaging material having Velcro(R) strips at either end on opposite sides of the material. An absorbent pad is fixed near one end and on the side opposite the Velcro(R) strip. On the side opposite the absorbent pad, an S hook is provided with one end fastened to the material and the other end free. The absorbent pad is located over the wound and the longer end of material is wound around the extremity and fixed in place with the Velcro(R) stripe at the near end of the material. The remaining material is passed through the hook and pulled back in order to apply pressure to the wound and reduce blood loss. The remainder of the material is wrapped around the extremity and secured in place with the Velcro(R) strip on the far end.

A hemostatic compression bandage includes a flexible backing element, a powdered hemostatic substance, and a flexible film element. The backing element includes a first containment region. The film element includes a second containment region corresponding to the first containment region. The film element is removably attached to the backing element so as to contain the hemostatic substance between the backing element and the film element within a volume defined by the first containment region and the second containment region. The backing element includes a pressure region located outside of the first containment region. The film element includes a pull-tab region located outside of the second containment region and at a first side of the bandage. The pull-tab region has sufficient length to be folded back across the second containment region and extending beyond a second side of the bandage that is opposite the first side of the bandage.

The proposed device includes two segments adapted to enclose a body part in a form-fitting manner. Each segment contains an electroactive-material-based actuator, which is adapted to receive an electrical control signal and in response thereto adjust the actuator's morphology, so as to cause the segment to apply a basic pressure profile to the body part. The present invention concerns a bandage cooling apparatus which provides a bandage at a different temperature than the body temperature. The use of a compression bandage complemented with cold temperature therapies sometimes represents an effective alternative available to heal various body injuries. Known bandages incorporate or work with systems providing the benefits of the temperature therapy, but they are found to be expensive, heavy or cumbersome. The subject of the invention is a method for automatic control of blood from the damaged vessel to be used in a dressing system provided with a tourniquet, a bandage and the first compression element. The method comprises the stage of applying pressure exceeding the systolic blood pressure of the patient via the compression element to a lesion site, so that the blood stops flowing through the damaged vessel, then the stage of reducing the pressure. In the pressure reduction stage, the pressure is reduced by a predetermined drop value, wherein if no blood flow is detected in the damaged vessel, then pressure reduction stage is repeated and if blood flow in the damaged vessel is detected, the pressure reduction stage is interrupted for a pressure drop time. Moreover, the subject of the invention is an automatic compression bandage system according to the invention is provided with a tourniquet with a compression element adapted to compress the damaged blood vessel at the lesion site, provided with an interface for electronic pressure control, and a CPU provided with a memory, connected to the compression element interface. The system is further provided with means for detecting the blood flow through the compressed vessel and means adapted for detecting the blood flow from compressed vessel. Moreover, the subject of the invention is a tourniquet to be used in the system according to the invention, provided with a controlled compression element and comprising a blood flow sensor and a blood loss sensor.

A compression dressing and method of use is provided. The dressing is self-adherent, washable and reusable and provides a selected and generally constant pressure to the surface of an animal.

The invention relates to a foam dressing with a bevelled edge and where the density at the edge is higher than the density at the central part of the foam. The high density at the edges causes gel blocking of the wound exudate thereby preventing leakage of exudate through the edges. In a preferred embodiment the foam dressing is non-adhesive. The foam dressing may have a water-impervious backing layer, which extends all the way over the top of the dressing and down to the wound-contacting surface. The wound dressing is particularly useful in treatment of venous ulcers in connection with compression bandages, as the bevelling of the edges markedly reduces the indentations in the leg following use of this dressing when compared to a dressing with straight edges.

A compression bandage shaped as an elongate rectangle is made of a textile fabric on which a hook strip is fastened along a narrow side of a small portion of a lateral face, or hook side. The fabric contains elastic filaments running in a longitudinal direction and, in a transverse direction, includes virtually inelastic supporting filaments having a spring constant in the longitudinal direction that ranges from 0.3 to 3 Newtons/cm of longitudinal stretching and a per meter length and per decimeter width of the compression bandage. Small loops made of soft filaments are interwoven and distributed uniformly over the entire area of the lateral face, or fleece side, opposite the hook strip. These small loops are oriented approximately perpendicularly to the lateral face, in size and distance from one another, and are complementary to the hooks of the hook strip for forming a releasable hook-and-loop closure.

The present invention is directed to an expandable compression bandage. The expandable compression bandage includes: an adhesive bandage part; and a pressing part including a solvent storage part and an expandable part. The solvent storage part is configured to be attached to a part of an adhesive surface of the adhesive bandage part and to store a swelling solvent, and the expandable part is configured to be disposed beneath the solvent storage part. The expandable part is swollen and expanded when the swelling solvent stored in the solvent storage part is absorbed thereinto.
