An Automatic Purchase System (APS) provides a radio broadcast listener with the ability to conveniently purchase media content such as music or speech while listening to the radio. The user can respond to items in the radio broadcast such as advertisements, fund raising drives such as those conducted by public radio, or interactive listener polls during the broadcast. Data such as song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored, can be transmitted using the RBDS/RDS data stream. A reference number representing song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored can also be employed for ease of implementation. This reference number can reside in a lookup table to be accessed by the APS server software on a Data Server located at the broadcast site, a remote site or both for purposes of redundancy. Transmission of purchase requests from a Technology Enabled Radio (TER) is provided via wireless transmission, or by accessing the Internet using a personal computer or through a cellular or wireless phone.

A method for radio transmission of audio data from an audio player device for receipt by an RDS capable FM radio receiver, comprising scanning an FM frequency range to detect available radio frequencies on which no broadcast transmissions or interfering signals are currently received; storing detected available frequencies; selecting one of the stored frequencies; receiving audio data from the player; modulating received audio data with FM; and transmitting modulated audio data on the selected frequency. A system and method for delivering geographically restricted content, including but not limited to over-air broadcast programming, to a recipient over a computer network, namely the Internet. The content is only delivered over the computer network if the recipient's computer or network device requesting the content over the network is verified to be located in the geographically restricted area. A system for decoding data, such as travel and traffic information, configured in data blocks embedded in an electromagnetic signal, such as a broadcasted radio signal, has been developed. The system includes a method and receiver for decoding the data with a background tuner in a manner that does not impair the ability of the background tuner to demodulate other signals. While a main tuner is tuned to demodulate a first electromagnetic signal to produce a data stream, the background tuner is switched to decode the data blocks only when the data blocks are expected to be received. In the remaining time, the background tuner is free to demodulate other signals to support a diversity or other function. If a data block is not received, or not received when expected, the background tuner returns to demodulating one or more other frequencies after a predetermined time interval has elapsed.

A vehicle entertainment and information processing (VEIP) system may allow a user to listen to quality broadcast signals while moving through regions of varying signal strength. The VEIP system includes a navigation unit, a tuning receiver, and a system controller to analyze broadcast signals based on a broadcast station database. A technique of providing advertisements in a traffic message is provided that obtains (704) traffic data having a traffic condition of a location description on a road network. A location reference code associated with the location description assigned by a traffic message supplier and an advertising reference code associated with the location reference code are assessed (706), (714), followed by a determination (716) as to whether the advertising reference code is present. If so, a traffic message having the location reference code and the advertising reference code is generated (710).

A method and system for an RDS decoder for single chip integrated Bluetooth and FM Transceiver and baseband processor are provided. The RDS decoder may have two phases, an acquisition phase and a decoding phase. During an acquisition phase, synchronization of a bit stream may be established based on detecting at least a portion of a plurality of received radio data service (RDS) data blocks. The synchronized bit stream may then be decoded during the decoding phase. If during decoding, at least a portion of the bit stream is out of synchronization, the bit stream may be synchronized without returning to the acquisition phase.
