Also provided is an image display apparatus equipped with the cooling fan. The cooling fan includes a fan rotator composed of a rotational shaft that is rotationally driven by a driving motor and two vanes that have parallel revolution shafts that rotate together with the rotational shaft, are freely rotatable on the shafts, face one another, and revolve around the rotational shafts and a vane angle control unit that implements control so that each vane has a maximum rotation angle when a revolution angle of the vanes is in a vicinity of a first revolution angle and each vane has a rotation angle of 0° when a revolution angle of the vane is in a vicinity of a second revolution angle that is perpendicular to the first revolution angle. By rotating the fan rotator, a wind in a single direction perpendicular to the rotational shaft is generated to cool a back light unit of a flat panel display, for example.

Magnetic noise reduction method for AC rotary electric machine, and motor control apparatus and AC rotary electric machine apparatus using the same

The invention provides techniques for reducing or altering the magnetic noise of an AC rotary electric machine. A magnetic noise reducing harmonic current of order n, whose frequency is n times the frequency of the fundamental frequency component of a polyphase AC current fed to an armature of a polyphase AC rotary electric machine, is superimposed on the polyphase AC current, thereby reducing or altering a harmonic component having a frequency (n−1) times the frequency of the fundamental frequency component and occurring due to a radial magnetic excitation force acting radially on an iron core of the AC rotary electric machine. Magnetic noise is caused by a vibration whose energy is the sum of the circumferential and radial vibrations of the iron core occurring due to the magnetomotive force of the rotor, and altering the radial vibration is particularly effective in altering the magnetic noise; as the harmonic component of the radially acting magnetic excitation force, occurring due to harmonic components having frequencies 3, 5, 7, and 13 times the fundamental frequency, has a frequency 6 or 12 times the fundamental frequency, the magnetomotive force of the rotor can be effectively reduced or altered when a current having a frequency 7 or 13 times the fundamental frequency is superimposed on the stator current.

Load-lifting apparatus and method of storing energy for the same

A load-lifting apparatus has one or more prime power sources, one or more energy storage systems and regenerative braking. Regenerative energy is recovered when the load-lifting apparatus lowers its load. The elements of the prime power sources, energy storage devices and electrical components may be distributed to provide stability for the load-lifting apparatus. The general power architecture and energy recovery method can be applied to cranes, rubber-tired gantry cranes, overhead cranes, mobile cranes, ship-to-shore cranes, container cranes, rail-mounted gantry cranes, straddle carrier cranes and elevators. In such an architecture, the energy storage system helps alleviate the power rating requirement of the prime power source with respect to the peak power requirement for lifting a load.

Portable power supply incorporating a generator driven by an engine

A portable power supply includes an engine-driven generator that generates a first AC power. A rectifier rectifies the first AC power to a first DC power. A DC / DC converter converts a second DC power from a storage unit to a third DC power. A controller selectively enables one or both of the rectifier and the DC / DC converter to provide one or both of the first DC power and the third DC power to the input of an inverter. The inverter converts the DC power at its input to a second AC power. Alternatively, the power supply advantageously includes a second generator and a second rectifier. The outputs of the two rectifiers are summed and the sum of the two outputs is provided as an input the inverter to extend the range over which a constant second AC power can be provided.

Fluent control valve

A continuously variable fluent control valve for controlling supersonic flow of gas. The valve has an upper plate with a very slightly angled physical control surface and a lower plate with a physical nozzle inlet. As the valve opens and closes during supersonic flow, a hydrodynamic pintle forms in the nozzle inlet just below the physical control surface. The hydrodynamic pintle provides a fluid control surface for redirecting flow from horizontal fllow to vertical flow through the nozzle and, depending on the expansion needs of the supersonic flow, the hydrodynamic pintle changes shape, expanding or shrinking in the axial direction of the valve. Because of the nearly flat physical control surface of the upper plate, matieral ablation is significantly reduced. The fluid-fluid boundary between the hydrodynamic pintle and the supersonic flow produces a flow through the nozzle with little or no recirculation.
