A system and process for stamping parts having tolerances below 1000 nanometers. The inventive system and process is particularly suited for producing optoelectronic parts. The system includes a stamping press and one or a progression of stamping stations for supporting a punch and die. The stamping stations are designed to maintain substantial alignment of the punch and die with minimal moving components. The stamping station includes a shaft for rigidly guiding the punch to the die. The stamping press is capable of providing the punch with the necessary force to perform the stamping operations. The system includes an interface system for interfacing the force of the press with the punch, while simultaneously structurally decoupling the press from the punch. The system also includes a locating sub-plate, for locating the stamping station in alignment relative to each other, and means for in-line machine stock material before entry into the stamping stations.

A fiber optic cable having at least one optical fiber such as a microstructured bend performance optical fiber disposed within a protective covering. The protective covering is highly flexible and the fiber optic cable has extremely low delta attenuation when aggressively bent compared with the conventional fiber optic cable designs. By way of example, the delta attenuation of one fiber optic cable design is about 0.33 dB or less when wrapped 3 turns about a 7.5 millimeter mandrel at a reference wavelength of 1625 nanometers. Techniques for non-contacting thickness or caliper measurements of moving webs or sheets employ a sensor device that includes a first sensor head and a second sensor head that are spaced apart to define a path through which the moving web travels. The sensor device projects a laser generated, multiple points pattern onto the upper surface of the moving web. Pattern recognition algorithm analysis of the pattern identifies the orientation, e.g., tilt, of the moving web. The device further measures the film tilt, the distance between the first sensor head and the first web surface, the distance between the second sensor head and the second web surface, and the distance between the two sensor heads to provide a highly accurate on-line thickness measurement of the moving web.

The present invention is directed to a golf club head with an improved striking surface. Grooves are machined into the strike surface with tight tolerances. The grooves have sharp edges, radiused ends, and a draft angle between about 2° and 12°. The striking face is machined such that it has a uniform texture with a roughness of more than 40 Ra. A stackable wall panel assembly including a lower wall panel having a top, a bottom, vertically extending ends and opposite sides and an upper wall panel having a top, a bottom, vertically extending ends and opposite sides. A method, system and scan lens system are provided for high-speed, laser-based, precise laser trimming at least one electrical element. The method includes generating a pulsed laser output having one or more laser pulses at a repetition rate. Each laser pulse has a pulse energy, a laser wavelength within a range of laser wavelengths, and a pulse duration. The method further includes selectively irradiating the at least one electrical element with the one or more laser pulses focused into at least one spot having a non-uniform intensity profile along a direction and a spot diameter as small as about 6 microns to about 15 microns so as to cause the one or more laser pulses to selectively remove material from the at least one element and laser trim the at least one element while avoiding substantial microcracking within the at least one element. The wavelength is short enough to produce desired short-wavelength benefits of small spot size, tight tolerance and high absorption, but not so short so as to cause microcracking.

A four-degrees-of-freedom (DOF) nonresonant micromachined gyroscope utilizes a dynamical amplification both in the 2-DOF drive-direction oscillator and the 2-DOF sense-direction oscillator, which are structurally decoupled, to achieve large oscillation amplitudes without resonance. The overall 4-DOF dynamical system is comprised of three proof masses. The second and third masses form the 2-DOF sense-direction oscillator.
