Method and Apparatus of Preventing a Fall or Minimizing the Impact of the Fall of an Individual

Falling causes serious injury to the body and is a leading cause of death in the elderly. An external belt placed over the waist comprises an inertia system and expandable modules. These modules contain packed air bags and can be expanded in size by orders of magnitude using an air tank. The modules are selected by the inertia system that senses the direction of the fall. The selected module is filled with air from the air tank generating a protective mattress which can be used to cushion their fall. Serious injury to the body can be reduced or even prevented. The module instead can contain an expandable support structure to reach the floor and act as a “third leg”. This support structure may be used by the individual to gain control of the individual's balance and stabilize the individual allowing a re-capture of balance and preventing the fall from occurring.

Blast attenuation seat

This invention relates to a system and method of armed forces vehicle seating which reduces the potential for injury to occupants when the vehicle is subjected to a mine or similar explosive device. The seats are ceiling or wall mounted and include a trailing arm which allows for deflection while providing stability. The seat isolates the occupants from the chassis of the vehicle via a pneumatic or other shock absorber and / or a crushable element to provide protection from vertical and horizontal oriented blasts. These seats can also be combined with shock absorbing / isolating foot rests, appendage (leg) restrain systems and an occupant four-point harness to offer a completely integrated system. This integrated system reduces acceleration / deceleration related injuries, shock injuries to the lower legs, flailing injuries to the lower legs and internal collision injuries. Other options and alternatives are also described.

Dynamic wall squat machine

The present invention is a dynamic wall squat machine which assists the user to perform the exercise safely and more effectively by the ability to scale the exercise with empirical resistance. The dynamic wall squat machine assists the user to load and use wall squat exercise dynamically with three types of scaled resistance and in a safe way. The limited length of the back pad allows the user to get a natural healthy and safe extension of the lower back during the wall squat exercise. The upper back portion is supported by the back pad, while the lower portion can move naturally. The dynamic wall squat machine of the present invention provides a more comfortable, effective, and safe movement for the dynamic or static wall squat exercise, especially when the user adds resistance to the exercise which can be loaded and used safely.

A surgical towel useful in surgical applications. The surgical towel has opposed surfaces and a plurality of edges. At least one pair of edges that are adjacent to one another are folded inwardly and secured to a surface to entirely enclose and retain a rigid radiopaque detection element at a corner of the towel. When so retained, a first portion of the detection element extends partially along a first edge of the pair of adjacent edges and a second portion of the detection element extends partially along a second edge of the pair of adjacent edges. The detection element is sized and shaped to inhibit potential injury to a patient being caused by the detection element if the surgical towel is temporarily left in a surgical cavity. Multiple detection elements may be so enclosed and retained.

Modular gas-pressured needle-less injector

A needle-less injector suitable for injecting fluid through a surface includes a housing, a driver, an engine and a trigger. The housing contains a fluid and the engine contains a compressed gas. Upon application of sufficient force to the trigger, the compressed gas is released from the engine forcing the driver through the interior of the housing, expelling the liquid from the housing at a speed sufficient to pierce an injection surface. In one embodiment, the needle-less injector includes a mechanism for mitigating the kickback associated with releasing compressed gas from the engine. In another embodiment, the housing includes finger rests that provide stability and resistance to activate the device. In another embodiment, the engine is fitted with a reusable valve. In another embodiment, a safety clamp is included on the housing, preventing accidental activation of the device.

Stop clip assembly for upholstery listing

This invention provides a locking seat cover securing system that includes a listing bead with a notch removed from the bead, and a stop clip with a nub in an inner surface of the stop clip. The notch is curved so as to maintain the structural integrity of the listing bead. The nub is sized, shaped, and located to correspond to the notch on the listing bead, so that the nub can engage within the listing bead when the listing bead is inserted into the notch. The engagement of the nub within the notch prevents the listing bead from sliding within the locking stop clip. The listing bead with the stop clip can be inserted into an upholstery clip within a foam seat, and the stop clip can abut the upholstery clip so that the listing bead cannot move relative to the upholstery clip.
