Micro-flexure suspension including piezoelectric elements for secondary actuation

A micro-flexure is provided for achieving secondary actuation in an actuator of a disk drive. The micro-flexure is a separate element which attaches to a standard flexure. A slider mounts to the micro-flexure. Piezoelectric elements attach to the micro-flexure to provide the motive force for displacing the micro-flexure during secondary actuation. The secondary actuation is thereby achieved by isolating movement at the slider.

High speed scanning or steering device

InactiveUS20050030604A1Maximizing commonalityPrevent undesirable bending forcePicture framesDomestic mirrorsCouplingResonance
A high speed, high displacement steering device used for rapid mirror or light source pointing consisting of a pivoting central element and mounting stem, two orthogonally arranged and offset “V” shaped flexure elements connected to two orthogonally arranged moving elements which are driven by electromotive actuators. Said moving elements are connected to a base structure via parallel motion flexures which serve to prevent undesirable bending forces in the linear actuators, while at the same time preventing undesirable translation movements, cross coupling of motion and resonances. A third type of orthogonal rod flexure restrains the remaining axis of translation motion, namely a translation of the central pivoting element in a direction perpendicular to the tilting axes. Piezoelectric, electrostrictive or similar actuators operate either separately or simultaneously to drive the central element in the only two remaining unrestrained tilting axes, via the offset “V” shaped flexures, producing tilt in any commanded direction. A sealing cover containing an elastic diaphragm to accommodate tilt may be added to the outer support structure as required for protection in harsh environments.

Flip and change systems

‘Flip and Change’ allows users to confidently change clothing without worrying about staining their clothes. The invention has two pieces of silk or polyester material that can be attached to a neck strap held together by hook-and-loop-fasteners. Other materials and fastening means may be used. Once the user has secured the neck strap, he / she may tuck the shorter piece of material into his or her collar or behind the front of the shirt (on the inside), while the longer piece may be flipped up to cover the face. When the (main) garment (such as a shirt or blouse) is removed, the invention prevents makeup from transferring to the clothing. The longer piece of material may include a decorative knot at the end.
