375 results about "Burst transmission" patented technology

In telecommunication, a burst transmission or data burst is the broadcast of a relatively high-bandwidth transmission over a short period. Burst transmission can be intentional, broadcasting a compressed message at a very high data signaling rate within a very short transmission time. This technique is popular with the military and spies, who both wish to minimize the chance of their radio transmissions being detected, a low probability of intercept (LPI) and low probability of recognition (LPR).

DRAM controller for graphics processing operable to enable/disable burst transfer

An interface unit 20 assigns different SDRAMs 1 and 2 to adjacent drawing blocks in a frame-buffer area. In processing that extends across the adjacent drawing blocks, active commands, for example, are issued alternately to the SDRAMs 1 and 2 to reduce waiting cycles resulting from the issue interval restriction. Furthermore, since individual clock enable signals CKE1 and CKE2 are output to the SDRAMs 1 and 2 so that burst transfers of the SDRAMs 1 and 2 can be stopped individually, no cycle is necessary to stop the burst transfers.

Mobile positioning method for a portable communications device using shortened repetitive bursts

Standard mobile cellular telephones use shortened burst signal transmissions to synchronize the transmission of a call over a cellular telephone network. These shortened bursts as well as other traffic channel bursts can be used to locate the position of the cell phone. In operation, a primary base station sends a traffic channel designation message to a selected mobile phone which then initiates selected traffic channel burst transmissions, such as shortened bursts, over an interval of five seconds or less. The primary station and at least two other neighboring base stations receive these burst transmissions and determine their respective distances from the cell phone based upon the time of arrival of the bursts or some other suitable distance related measurement. A command center determines the location of the cell phone by triangulating the distance measurements of the base stations.

Burst transmission

A terrestrial digital video broadcasting (DVB-T) network is used to transmit IP datagrams to receiving devices using multiprotocol encapsulation (MPE). MPE datagram section and, if forward error correction (FEC) is used, MPE-FEC datagram sections may include time-slicing parameters, such as a “delta-t” parameter for specifying a time until the next burst is transmitted and a flag for indicating the end of a burst. Thus, MPE and MPE-FEC datagram sections can be transmitted in bursts. Other types of sections, however, do not include such time-slicing parameters and thus cannot usually be transmitted in bursts. Nevertheless, by assembling a burst including at least one MPE or MPE-FEC datagram section which specifies delta-t and MPE or MPE-FEC datagram section at the end of a burst which indicates its position, other types of sections can benefit from being transmitted in bursts.

Data communication method based on multi-receiver aggregation

A wireless communication system including transmitters for determining a transmission rate for an associated receiver according to channel state information fed back from associated receivers, and transmitting packets at the determined transmission rate. In a communication method, a transmitter groups packets to be transmitted to the receivers according to transmission rates, and generates frames configured by packets with an identical transmission rate. The transmitter aggregates frames with different transmission rates into one transmission burst, and sends the transmission burst. The data communication method based on packet aggregation can efficiently manage resources by determining transmission rates for reception stations (STAs) on the basis of feedback channel state information in a transmission STA, aggregating packets to be transmitted to the reception STAs to form a packet group, and transmitting packet groups with different transmission rates using one multi-rate aggregation (MRA) burst.

Configurable multi-mode modulation system and transmitter

A multi-mode transmitter architecture is configurable for multiple modulation modes using either polar or polar-lite modulation. Multiplexed signal paths and reconfigurable components are controlled for performance in GMSK and EDGE burst modes. Polar-lite EDGE modulation is programmed by setting a multiplexer coupling a first amplitude modulated signal path with a frequency modulated signal path input to a dual-mode power amplifier for amplification of the combined EDGE transmission signal. In full-polar EDGE modulation, amplitude modulated signal is multiplexed into a second amplitude modulated signal path for A / D conversion and comparison with a polar feedback signal coupled from the power amplifier output. The resulting comparison is applied to a power control port of the power amplifier to amplitude modulate the EDGE transmission output. Multiplexers are configured to disconnect the amplitude modulated paths when operating in GMSK signaling for both full-polar and polar-lite modulation. Multiplexers selectively couple power feedback into the second amplitude modulated signal path to provide power control and output power ramping for burst transmissions.

Method for supporting improved burst transfers on a coherent bus

In a multiprocessor system, comprising master and slave processors, a cache coherency controller, and address concentration devices; a method for improving coherent data transfers is described. A command transaction is generated, and a subsequent command from an initiator. Tags added to the responses or further request responses, stream on high-speed busses. Snoops and accumulated snoops expand on cacheline requests as each processor separates burst commands into multiple cacheline requests. Address concentrators containing a cacheline queue function, funnel transaction requests to a global serialization device, where a queuing process prioritizes indicia and coordinates the results among the processors. The cache issues a single burst command for each affected line. System coherency, performance, and latency improvements occur. Additional support for burst transfers between coherent processors is provided.

Regulating data-burst transfer

The invention discloses methods and apparatus for regulating the transfer of data bursts across a data network comprising electronic edge nodes interconnected by fast-switching optical core nodes. To facilitate switching at an electronic edge node, data bursts are organized into data segments of equal size. A data segment may include null data in addition to information bits. The null data are removed at the output of an edge node and the information data is collated into bursts, each carrying only information bits in addition to a header necessary for downstream processing. To ensure loss-free transfer of bursts from the edge to the core, burst transfer permits are generated at controllers of the optical core and sent to respective edge nodes based on flow-rate-allocation requests. Null-padding is not visible outside the edge nodes and only the information content is subject to transfer rate regulation to ensure high efficiency and high service quality.

Apparatus and method for rectangular-to-polar conversion

A rectangular-to-polar-converter receives a complex input signal (having X0 and Y0 components) and determines an angle φ that represents the position of the complex signal in the complex plane. The rectangular-to polar-converter determines a coarse angle φ1 and a fine angle φ2, where φ=φ1+φ2. The coarse angle φ1 is obtained using a small arctangent table and a reciprocal table. These tables provide just enough precision such that the remaining fine angle φ2 is small enough to approximately equal its tangent value. Therefore the fine angle φ2 can be obtained without a look-up table, and the fine angle computations are consolidated into a few small multipliers, given a precision requirement. Applications of the rectangular-to-polar converter include symbol and carrier synchronization, including symbol synchronization for bursty transmissions of packet data systems. Other applications include any application requiring the rectangular-to-polar conversion of a complex input signal.
