Power line communications spread spectrum symbol timing and random phasing

A system for spread spectrum power line communications employs a harmonic modulation (HM) transmitter coupled to the power line for transmitting message bits to an HM receiver. The spread spectrum accommodates a plurality of HM transmitters simultaneously occupying the same bandwidth. Underground anomalies detection vehicle and trailer

A system for detection of linear underground anomalies passing under surface roads comprises an electromagnetic (EM) gradiometer mounted on a vehicle trailer. A transmitter is mounted to the front bumper of a car or vehicle towing the trailer and provides carrier synchronization information to the EM-gradiometer. An opportunistic radio station can be used as an illuminator. The transmitter or ground wave from an opportunistic radio station directs radio waves down into the ground where objects like linear underground anomalies and their equipment will produce reflections and scattered waves. These reflections will have phase angles and magnitudes that can be interpreted for characterizing information about the linear underground anomalies. Each EM-gradiometer measurement is tagged with GPS location information and then stored in a database. Subsequent passes over the same roadways and tracks are compared (change detection) to the earlier stored data. New linear underground anomalies and features become very obvious in these comparisons.

Apparatus and method for rectangular-to-polar conversion

A rectangular-to-polar-converter receives a complex input signal (having X0 and Y0 components) and determines an angle φ that represents the position of the complex signal in the complex plane. The rectangular-to polar-converter determines a coarse angle φ1 and a fine angle φ2, where φ=φ1+φ2. The coarse angle φ1 is obtained using a small arctangent table and a reciprocal table. These tables provide just enough precision such that the remaining fine angle φ2 is small enough to approximately equal its tangent value. Therefore the fine angle φ2 can be obtained without a look-up table, and the fine angle computations are consolidated into a few small multipliers, given a precision requirement. Applications of the rectangular-to-polar converter include symbol and carrier synchronization, including symbol synchronization for bursty transmissions of packet data systems. Other applications include any application requiring the rectangular-to-polar conversion of a complex input signal.

A three-phase parallel-connection reversal module synchronization method is provided. In a system, each reversal module realizes free competition by seizing a bus to confirm a host machine and an auxiliary machine. Wherein, the main machine and the auxiliary machine respectively take a bypass voltage and a main machine output voltage as a phase locking tracking source. Each module samples a three-phase tracking source and a three-phase output voltage and calculates frequency of the tracking source voltage and the output voltage, frequency difference and phase difference. Based on the frequency difference between the tracking source and the output voltage, look-up length of a PWM modulation sine wave is adjusted to gradually fix frequency of the tracking source. And then, the look-up length of the PWM modulation sine wave is slightly adjusted according to the phase difference between the tracking source and the output voltage to reduce phase difference between them and fix the phase. A synchronous pulse is transmitted at a zero passage of a main counter through the main machine. The auxiliary machine captures the pulse and sends the pulse to a rectification method of the main counter for carrier wave synchronization. The present invention solves a problem of three-phase locking and eliminates high-frequency component in circulating currents.
