Handheld computer based system for collection, display and analysis of engine/vehicle data

A novel and improved engine data system for collecting, displaying and analyzing engine/vehicle data is provided. The system have advantageously results in a more effective, convenient, portable and low cost method of monitoring and processing vehicle data. The vehicle data system includes a handheld computer containing operating system software adapted to operate the handheld computer in accordance with a data protocol different from a vehicle bus protocol and a handheld microprocessor for executing the operating system software. The system importantly includes an adapter for creating a data pathway between a vehicle bus connector and an external data port provided on the handheld computer which is physically incompatible with the engine bus connector. The adapter includes a data port connector for connection with the external data port, a bus compatible connector for connection with the engine bus connector, a battery power supply separate from the power supply of the handheld compuer and an adapter microprocessor powered by the battery power supply and connected via the data pathway with the bus compatible connector for protocol conversion of the data received from the engine bus. An engine data adapter system for creating a data pathway between the engine data bus and the handheld computer while determining the start and stop of messages received from the data bus and adding message identifiers to the engine data so as to minimize the required data processing by the handheld computer.

Wireless multi-user multi-projector presentation system

Media slides are often employed in conference sessions, meetings, lectures, and other interactive forums. The proliferation of laptops and handheld computers allows a speaker to present directly from the laptop by connecting to the projector at the conference site. Physically connecting and disconnecting each presenter's laptop to the projection apparatus, however, can be a clumsy and disruptive process, particularly since the presenters may be seated at various locations around the room. A wireless interface between a presentation server and a laptop in a multi-user multi-projector presentation system allows a media sequence from each media source to be displayed on a common display via the presentation server and the wireless interface. Presenters need not run or swap cables or other physical connections to switch media sources to the common display. The interface requires no software modification to the media source laptops and maintains independence between media sources and the server for security. The presentation server communicates with the media sources over the mouse port allowing innovative user interfaces, such as gesture recognition, to be employed for presentation control without additional software. Multiple projectors redundantly illuminate the display surface, dynamically eliminating shadows and other display artifacts when presenters walk between a projector and the screen. Distracting projected light cast on to the occluding presenters is automatically suppressed.

The device consists of an external programmed controller, which comprises a control unit, a first emitting circuit, a first receiving circuit and a first radio frequency coupling unit; an implanted medical treatment device, which comprises a microcontroller, a second emitting circuit, a second receiving circuit and a second radio frequency coupling unit; a palm computer, which comprises a communication port that is connected with the external programmed controller. The invention selects the pulse position modulating (PPM) way for the wireless communication modulating between the implanted medical treatment device and the external programmed controller, and adopts serial communication between the external programmed controller and a PDA, cyclic redundancy checking for data checking, and a data signaling and request-response way for communication controlling. The invention is independent of the scale of communication data flow rate, has the advantages of simple implementation way, reliable communication process, small volume, low power consumption and high transmission speed, etc., and can be widely used for the data communication of multiple applications of various implanted medical treatment device systems.
