Method and apparatus for measuring magnetic field strengths

The invention is a method and apparatus for measuring the strengths of magnetic fields directly in units of frequency of a rotating or oscillating electric field utilising a novel resonance phenomenon called atomic pseudo-spin resonance, ApSR. The ratio of field to frequency is 2m / e, where m and e are the reduced electron mass and the elementary charge, respectively. The magnetic field-strength is thus tied directly to the best physical standard known at present, the frequency of atomic clocks, and the tie is a fundamental constant of nature known with exceedingly good precision.

Apparatus for hot fusion of fusion-reactive gases

A generally spherical sealed reactor vessel defining a volume. A target sphere shaped electrode 11 is centered within a nonconductive reactor vessel 21. The target sphere is insulated from and fixedly centered within the nonconductive reactor vessel by an insulated stalk 22. This vessel is suspended in an insulating and cooling medium 241 composed of transformer oil. Deuterium gas 235 is released into and contained within the volume at a predetermined pressure. A source of high voltage, high frequency potential 130 is connected to the target electrode by an electrical connection 13. The other terminal of the high voltage, high frequency potential source is connected to Earth ground 153. The applied alternating electrical potential creates an alternating electrical field within the reaction chamber. This an oscillating electric field is formed within the enclosed space of nonconductive reactor vessel 21, extending between target electrode 11 and heat absorbent container 238. This electric field is of sufficient intensity to provide for the ionization of gases contained therein. It also provides for the alternately radial outward acceleration and the alternately radial inward acceleration of the contained ionized gases. The collapsing of ionized gases provides for ions impacting the spherical target, and for the impact of ions with one another. The intensity of the electric field is sufficient that such impacts occur at fusion reactive velocities.

Non-invasive reagentless glucose determination

Non-invasive apparatus and method for determining and monitoring glucose concentrations in human subjects. Glucose level is estimated through the effect of glucose on biological cells with glucose dependencies, e.g., red blood cells. The invention is based on the interaction of such cells with oscillating electric field gradients. The response of biological cells depends on factors including shape, size, and electrical charge distribution. The field gradient causes the cells to undergo characteristic motion which is detected by light beam scattering. The autocorrelation of the scattered light is computed, and the Fourier transform (FT) is performed to produce a characteristic velocity spectrum in which the peaks are characteristic of the cell “bio-electrical” states. The glucose level is estimated through measurements of changes of FT with changes in glucose levels after calibration with standard glucose methods.

Developing device and image forming apparatus

To provide a developing device capable of preventing the hysteresis phenomenon. The developer of the developing device contains a toner and a carrier. The toner and the carrier are charged to a polarity different from each other by frictional contact thereof. The developing device has a first conveyance member and a second conveyance member which faces an electrostatic latent image bearing body via the second region. An electric field forming device forms a first electric field between the first conveyance member and the second conveyance member to move the toner in the developer retained by the first conveyance member to the second conveyance member, and forms a second electric field between the second conveyance member and the electrostatic latent image bearing body to move the toner retained by the second conveyance member to an electrostatic latent image of the electrostatic latent image bearing body. The first electric field is an oscillating electric field having both a function to supply the toner to the second conveyance member and a function to collect the toner from the second conveyance member while a time average field strength is biased to a side where the toner is supplied from the first conveyance member to the second conveyance member, and a time ratio for carrying out the function to collect the toner from the second conveyance member to the first conveyance member is 60 to 80%.
