Tissue fastening devices and methods for sustained holding strength

A fastener (13) and fastener delivery device (73) for guiding, delivering and deploying the fastener (13) into tissue to provide sustained gripping forces and methods of use. The fastener (13) is curved with a spring-like or shape memory material (15) and gripping elements (14). The fastener (13) is resiliently straightened and loaded into a cartridge (7) within a needle (1). The needle (1) and cartridge (7) both contain a slit (2, 8), and the slits (2, 8) extend to the distal openings (16, 17) of the needle (1) and cartridge (7). When the slits (2, 8) are not aligned, out-of-phase with each other, the fastener (13) remains resiliently straightened in the needle (1). When the slits (2, 8) overlap, in-phase with each other, the fastener (13) resiliently curves and deploys from the slits (2, 8), elastically gripping adjacent tissue. The device (73) is free to be withdrawn, allowing the fastener (13) to slide out from the distal openings (16, 17) of both cartridge (7) and needle (1).

A wide-bandwidth antenna with antenna pattern control includes a radiator and a feed. The radiator includes two or more volumetric radiating elements. The feed includes two or more feed units, the feed units configured to provide wave signals to the volumetric radiating elements. The feed units provide an independent signal for each radiating element. The wave signals can be fed out of phase to each other. Depending on the dielectric filler inside the volume of the antenna and the phase shift between feeds, the pattern can be modified electronically leading to pattern control. The radiating elements are spaced at a distance at least one order of magnitude smaller than half of an operational wavelength of the antenna. At least one electrically conductive element of the antenna is capable of conducting a current that generates a magnetic field. The magnetic field lowers the total reactance of the antenna, thereby resulting in enhanced performance of the antenna in terms of bandwidth, gain, and pattern control. The volumetric design allows miniaturization of the antenna.

RF notch filter having multiple notch and variable notch frequency characteristics

A filter network having the capability of establishing multiple, tunable notch frequencies. A notch filter path is established for each notch frequency and includes a bandpass filter and inverter. An input RF signal covering a wide frequency range is applied to all the notch filter paths. Each notch filter path produces an output spectrum that is equal in magnitude and 180.degree. out of phase with respect to an undesired frequency spectrum. A combiner circuit combines the outputs of each notch filter path in parallel with the RF input signal to produce an RF output signal with all desired spectra unchanged and all undesired spectra attenuated.

Electronic search system

A search system for a tool. A border cable separates inner and outer areas. A generator feeds the border cable with current, whose magnetic field affects a sensing unit on the tool, and the sensing unit emits signals to a control unit that directs the tool's motion. The current contains at least two components of different frequency. A search cable is placed within the inner area so that it separates a search area, and is fed by a signal generator with an adapted current (e.g., the current direction alternates to be either in phase or out of phase in relation to the current direction in the border cable) so that the magnetic fields in the different areas provide at least three patterns. Accordingly, the control unit can separate the inner, outer, and search areas.

Storage device including a center tapped write transducer

A head for use in a drive includes a heating element capable of generating heat sufficient to cause the head to have a shape that is similar or identical to the shape that the head has when performing an operation (e.g. writing) on a recording medium in the drive. The heating element is activated when the operation is not being performed. Hence, a head generates the same amount (or similar amount) of heat and is therefore at the same temperature (also called “operating temperature”), regardless of whether or not an operation (such as writing) is being performed. Therefore, the head maintains a fixed shape or has a shape that varies minimally, within a predetermined range around the fixed shape, that in turn results in maintaining fly height (distance between the head and the recording medium). The heating element may be implemented to use loss mechanisms inherent in a write transducer, e.g. by providing a center tap to the write transducer. When using a center tapped write transducer, currents in phase with one another are provided to perform a write operation. When not performing the write operation, the same currents are provided, but out of phase.

High-stability shift circuit using amorphous silicon thin film transistors

A high-stability shift circuit using amorphous silicon thin film transistors, which utilizes two out-of-phase pulses to control the operating mechanism and the bias-relations among transistors in the shift circuit. This makes the transistors under the driving conditions of positive / negative-alternating biases so as to restrain the voltage shift of the transistors such that the threshold voltage will not excessively increase along with the increasing operating time. This can not only increase the lifetime of the amorphous silicon thin film transistors but also extend the operating time of the shift circuit.

Single frequency duplex radio link

A radio link with two communicating transceivers each having a system for isolating incoming and outgoing radio signals to permit simultaneous transmit and receive by each transceiver on the same frequency or in the same frequency range. This is done so that in-coming receive signals received by each of the transceivers from the other transceiver is much stronger than the portion of its own transmitted signal that is coupled back into its antenna. The invention uses a special electronic circuit, termed the iso-circulator, to couple the antenna to both the co-located receiver and the transmitter. The iso-circulator circuit includes a simulated antenna load with an impedance matched to the antenna impedance. The circuit also includes a transformer with its primary side fed asymmetrically by the antenna so that it can pass the desired receive signal with minimum attenuation. The transformer's primary is on the other hand fed symmetrically from both sides by equally small portions of the transmit power from the co-site transmitter, but these signals are 180 degrees out of phase and cancel almost completely in the transformer.

Wireless communication system using a plurality of antenna elements with adaptive weighting and combining techniques

The present invention provides a method and system for operating a wireless communication system in which received signals from a plurality of antennas are weighted and combined with a beam forming operation to form an output signal. The beam forming operation determines weights adjusted to increase a desired signal power in the output signal while reducing the power in the output signal of out-of-band components. In an embodiment of the present invention, beam forming operations are performed with maximal ratio combining (MRC). Alternatively, a constant modulus algorithm (CMA) can be used for beam forming operations. In an alternate embodiment, improved interference suppression is performed with a novel algorithm referred to as an interference nulling algorithm (INA). The INA receives an error signal which is 180° out of phase with a combination of the channels for individual antennas, referred to as the SUM channel. The error signal is determined by complex conjugate multiplication of the individual signals and a reference complex signal. It is desirable to simultaneously achieve diversity and combining gain and suppress the adjacent channel by combining the weight generation for MRC and that for INA, as described above, to generate antenna weights similar to those of MMSE combining.
