Inter-domain network management system for multi-layer networks

A network management system for a multi-layer network having multiple architectural or technological domains includes an inter-domain configuration manager arranged between a set of one or more network service management applications and a set of network element domain managers, each of the domain managers being associated with a particular domain of the multi-layer network. The configuration manager implements network service design and provisioning functions across the domains of the network in conjunction with stored connectivity information characterizing the multi-layer network. The network management system further includes an inter-domain fault manager and an inter-domain capacity manager, which provide respective fault management and transport capacity management functions across the domains of the multi-layer network. The inter-domain configuration manager, inter-domain fault manager and inter-domain capacity manager may be interfaced to the set of network service management applications and the set of network element domain managers through corresponding published Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

An architecture allows individual system components to be developed and tested individually, i.e., as distinct modules, and to be subsequently combined through standardized electrical and communication interfaces. Any combination of these modules can be implemented to form different products that provide any number of functions, such as an integrated system for monitoring a health condition and / or delivering a medication. The architecture also provides an approach for dynamically updating the product and offering its users the latest generation of technology even after the users have already purchased the product. In particular, the embodiments employ the communication interfaces to also provide connection to a remote network that can update or upgrade the product's software when the product is out in the field.

Determining positions in a wireless radio system

A method is described for expanding the radio-map of a WiFi system. A hotspot (HS4) of which the position is unknown and to be estimated is “seen” in a number of fingerprints (FP1, FP2, FP3), each taken at a different position. Several hotspots with a known position (HS1, HS2 and HS3) are also “seen” in the fingerprints (FP1, FP2, FP3). The geo-positions of the measurement locations, where the fingerprints (FP1, FP2, FP3) were taken, are estimated based on the signals from the hotspots (HS1, HS2, HS3) with known geo-position seen in the fingerprints and the known geo-positions of those hotspots. The position of the hotspot (HS4) is determined based on the signals from that hotspot (HS4) seen in the fingerprints and the geo-positions of the measurement locations where the fingerprints were taken, estimated in the previous step.

Method and apparatus for pumping and diluting a sample

A pumping apparatus (50) which isolates a sample (52) from a pump (72), thereby circumventing the so-called “memory effect” problem. The sample is pumped into an intermediary, or buffer region (64) using a first pump (54). The sample is displaced from this buffer region by pumping a second fluid (74) into the buffer region using a second pump (72). When the sample is displaced from the buffer region it proceeds to a mixer (78) where it can be diluted before analysis. The second pump is required to operate with a high degree of accuracy so that the sample is diluted by a consistent amount. Preferably, the second pump is a highly accurate piston pump.

Double inlet heat exchanger

The present invention is a plate heat exchanger that allows refrigerant to enter the heat exchanger simultaneously from two sides. Allowing the refrigerant or other fluid to enter from two sides splits the flow and improves fluid velocities by presenting an optimized area to the fluid flow. This effect may be realized for both gases and liquids, and for example with respect to a liquid refrigerant, where it enters the heat exchanger simultaneously by splitting. According to the present invention the split liquid flow from the condenser feeds dual electronically controlled expansion valves before entering the heat exchanger. Fully evaporated gas leaves the heat exchanger through a single outlet, or through a dual outlet.

Brake booster

An improvement of a valve plunger 14 used in a brake booster 1. A valve plunger 14 comprises a rearwardly disposed body 34, and an engaging member 35 mounted on a front portion of the body 34. When a brake pedal is quickly depressed during an emergency brake operation, the engaging member 35 retracts rearward relative to the body 34, whereby the axial size of the entire valve plunger 14 is reduced, thereby increasing the opening of an atmosphere valve during the emergency brake operation as compared with a normal brake operation, allowing an output of an increased magnitude to be rapidly obtained. Thus, the invention allows an output from the brake booster 1 to be rapidly increased in immediate response to a quick depression of a brake pedal.

Online language training system

An online foreign language training system is disclosed for providing a rapid introduction to a foreign language. Language instruction may be provided from a matrix of target languages and user languages, such that a single site may serve as a teaching system for teaching many different foreign languages and thus provide individuals with the ability to learn many different languages using the same user interface. Language curriculum may be customized based on user selections and user demographics to improve the relevance of the instruction to a user in terms of its length, thematic functions, and types of graphical images and sounds presented to the user. Language instruction is presented in a spiraling format in which different thematic themes are presented at each level and the complexity increases at increasing levels of instruction. The online language training system also uses icons to contextually introduce key terms for “controlling” communication, or conversation management. The user interface is simple and easy to use.

Automated process assembler

A method and system for automatically assembling a complete machine readable description of a process by observing and filtering digital messages executing on one or more message bus and that relate to the process. Message details are stored and a tracker record published in a common format. The stored message details are processed into a set of service execution path descriptions, which in turn are processed into the complete machine readable description of the process, using a suitable process design language. The invention automates the capture and documentation of a process, regardless of the complexities of the underlying messaging environment, and produces a complete and unambiguous description of the end-to-end process, free of errors, omissions and interpretation, thereby addressing a key need in any process re-engineering project, including the delivery of SOA implementations and other forms of agile and adaptable systems.

Brake booster

A tubular member 21 is disposed within a valve body 6, and has a resilient retainer 69 mounted around the outer periphery thereof. The inner periphery of the valve body 6 is formed with an annular groove 68. When a brake pedal is quickly depressed, an input shaft 23 and the tubular member 21 are driven forward through more than a given stroke relative to the valve body, whereby a projection 69a of the retainer 69 becomes engaged with the annular groove 68. This produces and maintains a large opening in an atmosphere valve 32. Accordingly, an output from a tandem brake booster 1 can be increased immediately in response to a quick depression of the brake pedal.
