The present invention relates to an applicator (1) for applying an
adhesive material to a substrate, comprising: an inner container (3) for receiving the
adhesive material, the inner container having a
discharge opening (18); an outer shell (2) surrounding the inner container (3) and including a generally hollow cylindrical neck region (6) having an inner
diameter D1 and an opening (7) formed in the neck region (6); and an applicator (4) connected to the outer shell (2), wherein the
adhesive material can be transferred from the inner container (3) to the applicator (4) by means of pressure on the outer shell (2) and can be applied to the substrate by means of the applicator, wherein the applicator (1) has a venting device and includes an insert (19) that is airtightly connected to the inner container (3) in the region of the
discharge opening (18), is generally hollow cylindrical and has an outer
diameter D2, wherein the outer
diameter D2 of the insert (19) is smaller than that of the outer shell (2). The neck region (6) has an inner diameter D1, and the insert (19) has a latching device (22) on its outer side, by means of which the insert is latched in the
insertion position in the neck region (6) of the outer shell (2), wherein in the
insertion position, due to different diameters D1 and D2, an annular gap is formed between the insert (19) and the neck region (6) of the outer shell (2), through which air can flow from the outside into the
intermediate space between the outer shell (2) and the inner container (3) and vice versa, and wherein the connection between the applicator (4) and the outer shell (2) is also airtight, and the applicator (4) includes a sealing device (25) by means of which the internal volume of the inner container (3) is sealed in an airtight and leak-proof manner relative to the
intermediate space between the outer shell (2) and the inner container (3) when the applicator (4) is in the
insertion position. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such an applicator (1).
