Load balancing agent for load distribution

A method is provided, comprising: detecting a load-balancing event; selecting a given array port in a storage system; selecting a first logical unit number (LUN) in the storage system; identifying a plurality of host ports in a host device; and causing a respective LUN-specific priority status of each of the plurality of host ports, with respect to the first LUN, to have a first value, the first value being a value that would cause a path selection software in the host device to choose another array port in the storage system over the given array port for transmission of input-output (I / O) requests directed to the first LUN.

Logical unit number queues and logical unit number queue scheduling for memory devices

ActiveUS12687986B2Logic cellAnd logic unit
A memory device may include logical units configured to store data, wherein the logical units are identified by corresponding logical unit numbers (LUNs) and are associated with corresponding LUN queue groups. Each LUN queue group may include LUN queues that are each associated with a respective intra-LUN priority level that indicates a priority of a LUN queue within a LUN queue group. The LUN queues are each associated with a respective execution priority level that indicates a priority for execution of commands in a LUN queue across LUN queue groups. A quantity of intra-LUN priority levels may be greater than a quantity of execution priority levels. A LUN scheduler may be configured to select and transfer commands from LUN queue groups to the execution queue group based on intra-LUN priority levels. A command executor may be configured to execute commands from the execution queue group based on execution priority levels.

Gransets for managing consistency groups of dispersed storage items

One or more techniques and / or computing devices are provided for managing an arbitrary set of storage items using a granset. For example, a storage controller may host a plurality of storage items and / or logical unit numbers (LUNs). A subset of the storage items are grouped into a consistency group. A granset is created for tracking, managing, and / or providing access to the storage items within the consistency group. For example, the granset comprises application programming interfaces (APIs) and / or properties used to provide certain levels of access to the storage items (e.g., read access, write access, no access), redirect operations to access either data of an active file system or to a snapshot, fence certain operations (e.g., rename and delete operations), and / or other properties that apply to each storage item within the consistency group. Thus, the granset provides a persistent on-disk layout used to manage an arbitrary set of storage items.

Background memory scan block selection

The present disclosure relates to background memory scan block selection. Memory subsystems of the present disclosure select a memory block having a highest page fill ratio for a memory scan. In one embodiment, the memory subsystem identifies a plurality of block stripes on a logical unit (LU) identified by a logical unit number (LUN), where the LU is one of a plurality of LUs of a memory device. The subsystem determines a fill ratio for each of the plurality of block stripes. The subsystem selects a block stripe having a highest fill ratio among the block stripes. The subsystem identifies a memory block of the LU from the selected block stripe. The subsystem performs a memory scan operation on the memory block of the memory device.

Power management associated with memory and controller

Methods, systems, and devices for power management associated with memory and a controller are described. A memory system performs a power management operation that accounts for power usage by any combination of application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and memory arrays. The power management operation includes multiple logical unit numbers (LUNs) assigned to a single ASIC, which increases a quantity of bits for communicating a power usage. An ASIC included in a memory system may utilize twice as many bits for communicating power usage information when compared to a NAND array. As part of the power management operation, an ASIC may transmit, to a controller, a first set of bits indicating a power usage of the ASIC, a first subset of the set of bits transmitted during a first instance of a token ring and a second subset of the set of bits transmitted during a second instance of the token ring.

Method and system for backing up and restoring data

The present disclosure relates to a method and system for backing up and restoring data. The method comprises: obtaining usage and health conditions of a backup device; reporting the obtained usage and health conditions to a backup agent in a server storage area network (SAN) node connected to the backup device; and in response to detecting a virtual disk control command from the server SAN node, controlling a virtual disk interface of the backup device such that data within a logical unit number (LUN) required by the server SAN node is backed up to or restored from the backup device, the virtual disk interface providing an interface to a virtual disk of the backup device based on a predetermined binding relationship between the LUN and the virtual disk.

A solid state storage device temperature control method

ActiveCN116935904BReducing temperature influence on carrierHardware monitoringSolid-state storageFlash memory controller
The application provides a solid state storage device temperature control method, including a solid state disk master control chip of a multi-CPU core architecture, a front-end core Core0 periodically sampling solid state disk disc each part sensor temperature value, and calculating a composite temperature, sending the composite temperature to an auxiliary core mCore4; a back-end core Core2, Core3 real-time collecting respective working logical unit number quantity, and feeding back to the auxiliary core mCore4; the auxiliary core mCore4 accumulates and averages the sampling data, and detects whether the composite temperature exceeds a conditional threshold value, if exceeding the threshold value, then according to the actual load level and temperature grade adjustment logical unit number maximum concurrent number limit value; the back-end core Core2, Core3 gets the concurrent number limit value from the auxiliary core mCore4, and adjusts the flash memory controller. The application saves computing power and improves input and output performance, ensures that the solid state disk temperature and power consumption are limited without losing too much performance, and guarantees the accuracy and real-time of the maximum logical unit number concurrent number calculation result.

Performing read operations during suspend modes

Methods, systems, and devices for performing read operations during suspend modes are described. A memory system may receive one or more read commands while performing program operations and may store the read commands to respective queues associated with planes of a logical unit number (LUN) of the memory system. Once a threshold quantity of read commands have been received (e.g., stored to the queues), the memory system may suspend the ongoing program operations. The memory system may perform operations associated with the queued read commands when the program operations are suspended, and may resume the program operations after completion of the read operations.

Increasing provisioned storage capacity by means of growing underlying disks within a storage appliance

Systems and methods for supporting dynamic disk growth within a storage appliance are provided. According to one embodiment, a portion of a logical size of each of multiple disks (e.g., hyperscale disks or Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs)) are provisioned for use by a storage system as backing for respective file system disks. To accommodate growth, block numbers for the file system disks are pre-allocated within a sparse space of a contiguous sequence of block numbers corresponding to a number of blocks represented by the logical size. Metadata is maintained for the file system disks regarding a range of the pre-allocated block numbers that are available for use. Responsive to a triggering condition, the provisioned portion of a disk is increased and subsequently, responsive to detecting a change in a size of the disk by the storage system, a size of the corresponding file system disk is updated within the metadata.
