Rotary manipulation type electronic component

A rotary manipulation type electronic component includes a space formed by a case. A base houses a rotating body holding a resilient contact as a movable element. A comb-like contact is formed as a fixed element. A first bushing in the case and a second bushing in the base rotatably support a rotating shaft that rotates together with the rotating body. An inner bottom face of a cap-shaped knob is secured onto an end of the rotating shaft so that the knob receives a barrel portion, which supports the rotating shaft as a portion of the case.

Electronic parts board and method of producing the same

An electronic component substrate 1-1 includes an insulating base 10 and a flexible circuit board 20 mounted on the insulating base 10. The flexible circuit board 20 is a synthetic resin film provided thereon with terminal patterns 29 and a conductor pattern 25 whose surface is slidingly contacted with a slider. The insulating base 10 is a synthetic resin molded piece. The flexible circuit board 20 is insert-molded to the insulating base 10. The electronic component substrate 1-1 is produced by preparing the flexible circuit board 20 and first and second mold members 41 and 45 having a cavity C1 with a shape that corresponds to the external shape of the electronic component substrate 1-1. Then, the flexible circuit board 20 is accommodated in the cavity C1 between the first and second mold members 41 and 45, and a molten molding resin is filled into the cavity C1. After the filled molding resin has been solidified, the first and second mold members 41 and 45 are removed.

Rocker lever assembly

A rocker lever assembly includes a housing, an operation device, a switch device, a restoring device, and two sensing variable resistors. The operation device includes a first pivot seat, a second pivot seat, and a control lever. The switch device includes a base, a contact terminal, a contact plate, and a cover plate. The control lever is depressed to cause the under surface of the second pivot seat to depress the cover plate. Thus, the switch device is hidden in the housing, thereby reducing the volume of the rocker lever assembly. In addition, the contact slide is moved on the resistance plate of the casing by guidance of the drive member, thereby greatly enhancing the sensitivity of each of the two sensing variable resistors.

Compact potentiometer

A sensor is disclosed that fits in a compact package. This compact sensor is ideal for sensing rotary positions and for accommodating one or more potentiometers. The resistor track is parallel and opposed to the collector track, and the wiper is placed between the two tracks to swipe both of them in one embodiment. This allows a short package, because the tracks are opposed to each other rather than being in a line, and a narrow package, because the tracks are not placed side by side. Another advantage of the invention is that putting the resistor track on a larger radius and the collector track on a smaller radius allows the resistor track to be longer. Having a longer resistor track allows a higher resolution, yet a package containing the potentiometer will still be relatively small. Several potentiometers may be placed in the sensor to provide redundancy yet retain compactness.

Occupant sensor for a vehicle restraint system

An apparatus for sensing an occupant in a vehicle seat for a vehicle occupant restraint system is provided. The apparatus uses sensors to measure seat deflection to determine the presence, weight, and seated location of the occupant. The sensors are connected to a processor which controls air bag deployment. In one embodiment, the apparatus uses sensors that transfer linear movement to the processor. In another embodiment, the apparatus uses sensors that transfer linear to rotational movement of seat deflection to the processor.

Lighting control having a captured offset linear guide system

A captured offset linear guide system for a lighting control device includes a faceplate having an elongated slot, a knob, an offset member, and a linear potentiometer. The offset member allows the linear potentiometer to be offset from the elongated slot of the faceplate to prevent dirt and dust from collecting on the potentiometer. Also, the offset linear guide system prevents insertion of an object into the internal structure of the lighting control device where it might come into contact with energized electrical components. The faceplate includes two guide rails, which hold the offset member close to the faceplate and allow for easy assembly of the faceplate to the lighting control device. Further, the faceplate includes an alignment rail, which prevents the offset member from rotating and further constrains the offset member to move in a straight line within the slot.

Layered electrically conductive material

An electrical resistor has an electrically conductive stack, which includes a plurality of metal first layers and second layers. The stack allows to produce a highly anisotropic resistor, in which the resistance in the direction perpendicular to the layers is much higher than in the plane of the layers. The anisotropy allows the current flowing through the stack to be made homogenous, e.g., to be distributed over the entire stack surface, even if the current is input into the stack in an inhomogenous manner.

Contactless Magnetic Potentiometer

A contactless potentiometer is described wherein the conductive and resistive traces of the potentiometer are contained within a sealed channel formed of non-conductive material. The electrical gap between the conductive and resistive traces is bridged by a magnetically reactive contactless tap. A magnetic force is applied to the tap through the surface of the channel holding the conductive and resistive traces. This provides a drawing magnetic force to the tap which pulls the tap against the traces and allows for changing the resistance of the potentiometer by laterally moving the tap along the traces as the tap moves to follow the motion of the external force.
