Electrical appliance energy consumption control methods and electrical energy consumption systems

Electrical appliance energy consumption control methods and electrical energy consumption systems are described. In one aspect, an electrical appliance energy consumption control method includes providing an electrical appliance coupled with a power distribution system, receiving electrical energy within the appliance from the power distribution system, consuming the received electrical energy using a plurality of loads of the appliance, monitoring electrical energy of the power distribution system, and adjusting an amount of consumption of the received electrical energy via one of the loads of the appliance from an initial level of consumption to an other level of consumption different than the initial level of consumption responsive to the monitoring.

Expandable and contractible hose

A hose which automatically expands longitudinally and automatically expands laterally upon the application of a fluid pressure is disclosed. The hose can automatically expand longitudinally up to six times its unexpanded or contracted length. Upon release of the fluid pressure within the hose, the hose will automatically contract to a contracted condition. The hose includes an inner tube made from an elastic material and an outer tube made from a non-elastic material. The inner tube is positioned concentrically within the outer tube in both a contracted condition and an expanded condition. The outer tube is secured to the inner tube only at a first end of the inner and outer tubes and at a second end of the inner and outer tubes. The outer tube moves laterally and longitudinally with respect to the inner tube when the tubes are transitioning between a contracted condition and an expanded condition.

Linearly retractable pressure hose

A linearly self-actuated hose for use in transporting fluids (liquids, gases, solid particles, and combinations of these three). Hose (30) has a biasing spring (36) that extends along its full length, and can comprise single or multiple springs and / or multiple diameter spring coils. Spring (36) is covered with hose cover material (32) on the outside and hose cover material (34) on the inside to form a sealed hose and are bowed inward or outward radially between the individual spring coils depending on the intended use of hose (30) to give the cover materials room to move out of the way when the hose retracts and the coils of spring (36) are forced close together. The Linearly Retractable Hose is operated by changing internal pressure within the hose relative to the ambient pressure on the exterior of the hose. Control of fluid pressure within hose (30) is what allows the hose to operate as an automatically extendable and retractable hose. The biasing of spring (36) depends on the type of use for the hose. For hose (30b), which will be used as a vacuum hose then the biasing spring (30b) must exert an extending force on the cover material (opposite that for a pressure hose). If the hose is to be used as a pressure hose (garden hose, etc.), spring (36) will need to have a bias that exerts a retracting force on cover materials (32) and (34).

Device for keeping clean optical elements on motor vehicle clean, in particular covers for sensors or cameras

The invention relates to a device for keeping optical elements (1) clean in motor vehicles, in particular sensor or camera covers. This is done according to the present invention by applying a directed stream of gas, in particular a stream of air (4), to the transparent cover (2) in such a way that when the cover moves (6) relative to the surroundings no ambient atmosphere (10), in particular no ambient air, reaches the surface (20) of the cover. According to one embodiment, using a nozzle (3) pressurized air (4) is blown in, producing a transverse air stream (9). It is also possible, using a cover, to form a buffer space in front of the cover in addition to the transverse air stream. In a further refinement, a cleaning nozzle and a heater for the cover can be provided, in order to also be able to perform cleaning when soiling has occurred during stationary operation and to remove icing at low temperatures. To this end the cleaning fluid and / or the supplied air may also be pre-heated.

Dishwasher drying system

A dishwasher with a novel drying cycle is provided. The dishwasher door includes a vent channel connecting the interior of the dishwasher to the outside and housing a condenser section that condenses water vapor from moisture laden air from the interior of the dishwasher and directs the condensed water back into the dishwasher. A vent valve covers the opening of the vent channel into the dishwasher and is opened and closed at appropriate times during the drying cycle. A heater adjacent a blower heats air entering the dishwasher. A temperature sensor in the dishwasher interior provides temperature measurements of the inside of the dishwasher that may be used to control the duration of the drying cycle. A controller interconnects the operating components of the dishwasher and provides the logic for the drying cycle.

Appliance latch having a rotating latch hook mounted on a linear slide

An appliance door latch provides a rotating hook supported on a linear carriage that may move along a line toward and away from a strike. A release of the strike from the rotating hook requires a compression of springs biasing the linear carriage which are then retained in a compressed state by a catch surface on the rotating hook. Re-engagement of the strike with the rotating hook releases the catch surface, causing the springs to pull the rotating hook and strike inward to aid in compressing a door gasket or the like.

The dishwasher having a sump formed in the bottom and a wash pump having an inlet in communication with the sump. A collection chamber is formed through the bottom of the sump and a filter is situated over the top of the sump. The filter has an opening for depositing debris in the collection chamber. A stationary manifold is situated about the upper periphery of the sump and is aligned with the discharge of the pump. The manifold has multiple spaced spray nozzles, with each of the nozzles being aligned for spray contact with the filter. When water is pumped from the sump to the manifold, the water is sprayed across the filter to remove any food debris on the filter. The debris is then swept into the collection chamber.

Household appliance with advertising display mode

A household appliance is provided with a visual display, as well as a control system which enables the visual display to be used in an advertising mode of operation. The advertising mode can be selectively operated in either automatic or interactive formats. In the automatic format, a series of screens are successively displayed on the screen in order to advertise various features and advantages of the appliance. In the interactive format, the consumer can enter desired selections through the screen as if the appliance was actually in use. The appliance then simulates an operation cycle based on the selections made. The selections are preferably stored in a volatile memory location such that the control system reverts back to default settings and options, either after a preset idle period or upon establishing an OFF condition for the appliance.

Expandable garden hose

A flexible garden hose having an inner tube member made from elastic material and an outer tube member made from a non-elastic material. The inner tube member is secured to the outer tube member only at an inlet coupler and an outlet coupler. The inlet coupler is constructed to secure to a water supply provided from a conventional household water spigot. The outlet coupler is coupled to a flow restrictor allowing the inner tube member to equalize in pressure with pressurized water received from the water supply. Pressurized water expands the elongated inner tube member longitudinally along a length of the inner tube member and laterally across a width of the inner tube member thereby substantially increasing the length of the hose to an expanded condition wherein the hose contracts to a substantially decreased length when there is a decrease in pressurized water.
