The signals undergo pre-processing to identify signals forms characteristic of speech and instruct a measurement unit to carry out comparison using cross-correlation techniques between the signals stored in the stores only when such characteristics are detected. This reduces the processing power required and raises the accuracy of the correlations. Parallel processing techniques allow echoes with longer delay periods to be detected. The results of the measurement may be used to generate an echo-cancellation signal.

In a scheme for accessing a wireless network, a backoff delay time period representing a duration of time that is to elapse before a station is permitted to attempt a retransmission is selected from a group of delay periods. The group of delay periods grows at a rate that is less than exponentially (e.g. linearly) based on the number of attempted retransmissions. Selection of the backoff delay time period may entail random selection of an integer N from a contention window and multiplication of N by a slot time duration. The contention window may be a range of integers [0, W-1]. The contention window size W may be initialized to a predetermined minimum value upon a first attempted transmission and may be capped at a predetermined maximum value. Average backoff delay may be reduced in comparison to a binary exponential backoff approach.

A method of manufacturing an overbased calcium sulfonate grease comprising a reduced amount of overbased calcium sulfonate, water and at least one non-aqueous converting agent, where at least a portion of the non-aqueous converting agent is added after one or more delay periods relative to the addition of the water. A delay period may involve the period of time it takes to adjust the temperature of the mixture, a period of time during which the mixture is held at a temperature or within a range of temperatures, and multiples and any combination thereof. For control, some memory circuits use a delay-locked loop to generate a set of signals, each delayed a different amount relative a reference signal. However, as circuits get faster and faster, conventional delay-locked loops require use of extra interpolation circuitry to generate smaller delays, and thus consume considerable power and circuit space. Accordingly, the inventor devised a circuit which interlaces and synchronizes two delay-locked loops, each including a number of controllable delay elements linked in a chain. An approach is provided for determining an estimated completion time for a task and/or a project. A plurality of electronic communications of a plurality of users are accessed, wherein the electronic communications relate to a common project engaged in by the users. Timing information is extracted from the electronic communications. For each of the users, an average delay period is computed using the extracted timing information. An estimated delay value is generated for the project based on the computed average delay periods.

A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for alleviating problems of long latency or delay periods on the Internet through the presentation of filler content that keeps the user occupied. The cause and extent of the latency or delay may be identified either at a client or server computer and then communicated to the client computer to trigger the presentation of the filler content on the client computer. The filler content may comprise text data, graphics data, audio data, audiovisual data, or other data as desired, and provides just enough distraction to keep the user occupied, while retaining him/her for the completion of the session, transaction, or activity. The filler content may be provided by either a server computer or a client computer, and may be selected automatically by the server computer or the client computer or may be selected manually by the user so that it can be customized based on his/her taste for filler contents. The present invention relates to methods and systems for enhancing the performance of fuel cells in fuel cell vehicles. Some embodiments comprise a current control module for controlling the application of a load to the fuel cell and a voltage monitoring module for monitoring one or more voltages within the fuel cell. The current control module may be configured to apply a delay period before applying a load to the fuel cell after the fuel cell has reached an open circuit voltage. In other embodiments, a fixed delay period may be applied before applying a load to the fuel cell after the fuel cell has reached an open circuit voltage or, for example, an incremental set of delay periods that increase as measured temperature decreases.

A novel composite layer structure method which is suitable for reducing post-exposure delay (PED) effects associated with fabricating a photolithography reticle or mask and eliminating or at least minimizing variations between intended and realized critical dimension values for a circuit pattern fabricated on the reticle or mask. The method includes providing a mask blank having a metal layer, providing a photoresist layer on the metal layer of the mask blank, providing a protective layer on the photoresist layer and photo-cracking the photoresist layer in the desired circuit pattern typically by electron beam exposure. During subsequent post-exposure delay periods, the protective layer prevents or minimizes Q-time narrowing of the photo-cracked photoresist, and consequently, prevents or minimizes narrowing of the critical dimension of a circuit pattern etched in the metal layer according to the width of the photo-cracked photoresist.

A circuit for generating column path control signals in a semiconductor device is provided. The circuit includes a strobe signal delay unit configured to receive a strobe signal, and delay the received strobe signal for different delay periods, to generate a plurality of respective delayed strobe signals, and a control signal generator configured to receive at least one of the delayed strobe signals, and perform a logical operation to the received signal, to generate a first column path control signal for controlling a column path of the semiconductor device.

A multiple access technique for a wireless communication system establishes separate channels by defining different time intervals for different channels. In a transmitted reference system different delay periods may be defined between transmitted reference pulses and associated data pulses for different channels. In addition, a multiple access technique may employ a common reference pulse for multiple channels in a transmitted reference system. Another multiple access technique assigns different pulse repetition periods to different channels. One or more of these techniques may be employed in an ultra-wide band system.
