Systems and methods for implantable devices that transmit and receive RF transmissions are provided. More particularly, the implantable device includes an antenna encapsulated within a non-hermetic material, wherein the antenna is spaced from the non-hermetic material by an air gap. Preferably, the spacing is provided by one or more enclosures that maintain the air gap surrounding the antenna during and after the manufacture of the device. The one or more enclosures can be in the form or tubing formed from glass, or the like, at least partially surrounding the antenna. By increasing the amount of air encapsulated within the implantable device, and particularly proximal to (e.g., around) the antenna, the susceptibility to changes in RF performance is reduced.

Systems and methods for monitoring intravascular pressure of a patient. The system includes a pressure sensor and catheter assembly having a pressure sensor portion and a transdermal catheter portion. The transdermal catheter portion has a fluid filled lumen and a distal barrier to maintain patency. A transmitter unit may be connected to the pressure sensor portion via a lead. The transmitter unit transmits pressure data to a remote receiver unit that may communicate (directly or indirectly) with a cable management device, a data acquisition device, a monitoring instrument, a computer, a modem, a telecommunication line, a network, etc. In addition, the system may include means to correct for pressure variations due to any difference in elevation between the sensor assembly and the heart.

A camera may include an optical sensor, a wireless communication device, and a processor configured to establish a connection with a remote web site, and stream a first video stream to the remote website. The camera may be further configured to establish a connection with a local device, and stream a second video stream to the local device. The optical amplifier system includes a tapered fiber bundle which couples optical energy into the cladding of an optical amplifier. A signal passing through the optical amplifier is amplified. To monitor the amplified signal, a single fiber of a tapered fiber bundle may be used as a monitor fiber. Alternatively, a monitor or coupler may be integrated into the tapered fiber bundle during manufacturing. An adaptive file delivery system and method transmits a data file, such as an audio-video file, over a network or collection of networks in segments, each segment transmitted during a different time period. Each time period has a transmission portion to transmit its associated file segment and a wait portion in which no further interaction with the network occurs regarding the transmitted segment. In some implementations, the duration of the transmission portion of each time period is sufficient to reach a steady-state throughput condition, which allows the traffic load status of the network or networks to be determined from rate measurements of file segment transmissions. The duration of the wait portion of each time period is at least long enough to limit the average rate of file segment transmission to adapt to network traffic load variations while causing the entire file to be delivered in a predetermined delivery deadline.
