This abstract is intended only to enable the Patent and Trademark Office and the public to generally determine the nature of the technical disclosure. This abstract is not intended to aid in the interpretation of the scope of any claim. A portable computing device includes a keyboard controller that receives keystroke information as well as inputs from a graphical pointing device and conveys these to a main central processing unit. The keyboard controller additionally communicates with a battery module through a second interface in order to monitor and control the charging of the module. A low power secondary processor is interfaced to the keyboard controller through the second interface in order to receive keystroke information as well as information from the graphical pointing device. When the keyboard controller is instructed to do so, keystroke and graphical pointing information are conveyed exclusively to the secondary processor, thereby enabling the portable computing device to perform some functions without requiring the main central processing unit to be operational and thus operate in a low power mode.

A computer system includes a status register for receiving events which cause the computer system to change to a low power mode or back to a normal power mode. The status register is selectively coupled to a keyboard controller to receive an interrupt from the keyboard controller when a sleep/wake key is actuated on a keyboard. When the computer system is normally powered, the keyboard interrupt is not routed to the status register. If the computer system is powered down, the keyboard interrupt is routed so that actuation of the sleep/wake key will awake the computer system.

Each key is backlit by one or more lights of the second array of lights that may be individually controlled. The keyboard controller may drive the desired lights of a respective row while detecting key presses of the same row during the row interval using the shared row pins and/or column pins. In some embodiments, the keyboard controller may drive the desired lights of a row during driving interval of the row interval, and scan the keys of the row separately during a sensing interval of the row interval.

A hard disk temperature monitoring device for monitoring a temperature of a hard disk in a computer system is provided. A hard disk stores an operating system. A basic input/output system (BIOS) has a setting configuration. When the setting configuration is a first setting value, operation of the hard disk is restored. When the setting configuration is a second setting value, the operation of the hard disk is stopped. A thermal sensor detects a temperature of the hard disk. A keyboard controller (KBC) is electrically connected to the thermal sensor via a data transmission channel for detecting the temperature of the hard disk in real time. If the KBC detects that the temperature of the hard disk rises to a first predetermined temperature, the setting configuration is set to the second setting value, and the BIOS stops the operation of the hard disk according to the second setting value.

A portable computer and security operating method thereof are provided to secure the portable computer in a power-off mode. The portable mainly includes a computer host, a system BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), an EC (Embedded Controller), an EC BIOS, one or more input device and a power device, all of which are in bus connection or circuit connection with each other. The EC includes a KBC (Keyboard Controller) and remains activated when the portable computer is in the power-off mode. Meanwhile, the EC is adapted so that in the power-off mode of the portable computer and upon receipt of a security signal, the EC executes a power-off-mode security routine of the EC BIOS to lock the portable computer in the power-off mode.

An apparatus to identify the manufacturer of a battery is provided, the battery typically includes a DC signal pin and a grounding resistor. The apparatus includes a keyboard controller. The keyboard controller includes an analog to digital converter (ADC) with an ADC signal pin. The ADC signal pin is connected to an end of the grounding resistor through the DC signal pin, and the other end of the grounding resistor is grounded. The invention relates to a keyboard with the key conduction force adjusted according to the requirements of a user and an adjusting method thereof. The keyboard comprises a plurality of keys. Each key is provided with a first key body and a keyboard controller. The keyboard controllers are used for generating first sensing values corresponding to the first key bodies after the first key bodies are pressed at first pressing forces, and the first sensing values are relevant to the first pressing forces in magnitude. The keyboard controllers are used for compensating the first sensing values by using first compensating values corresponding to the first key bodies so as to generate first adjusted sensing values. If the first adjusted sensing values are larger than a current threshold, the keyboard controllers confirm that the first key bodies are pressed and output first key codes corresponding to the first key bodies. By means of the keyboard and the adjusting method, the user can more flexibly grouping keyboard according to the requirements of the user and adjust actuation thresholds so as to set the key conduction force, and therefore the user can have better user experience when typing words or executing other application programs (such as computer games and the like).

The invention relates to an analog elevator key device and an elevator system. The analog elevator key device comprises an analog key, a communication unit, an analog keyboard controller, and an elevator floor controller, wherein the analog key comprises distance detection units; the communication unit is connected to one or multiple distance detection units of the analog key; the analog keyboardcontroller is connected to the communication unit; and the elevator floor controller is connected to the analog keyboard controller and is used for giving out a control command to the elevator controlsystem according to a control signal. A method and a computer system for keystroke event notification are provided. The method includes a number of steps. A keyboard controller scans a number of keys contained in a keyboard. The keys include at least one pressure-sensitive key and at least two key-functions are assigned to each of the at least one pressure-sensitive key in response to a pressure applied on the pressure-sensitive key. When one of the pressure-sensitive keys is scanned by the keyboard controller, the keyboard controller measures the pressure applied on the pressure-sensitive key. The keyboard controller uses at least two pressure thresholds to determine a level of the measured pressure. The keyboard controller controls a storage device containing a source code of a basic input/output system (BIOS) to deliver a keystroke event on the basis of the determination result, so as to activate one of the key-functions of the pressure-sensitive key.
