Computing device having a low power secondary processor coupled to a keyboard controller

This abstract has been included pursuant to Section 1.72(b) of the Rules for Patent and Trademark Cases, Title 37 of the Code of Federal Regulations. This abstract is intended only to enable the Patent and Trademark Office and the public to generally determine the nature of the technical disclosure. This abstract is not intended to aid in the interpretation of the scope of any claim. A portable computing device includes a keyboard controller that receives keystroke information as well as inputs from a graphical pointing device and conveys these to a main central processing unit. The keyboard controller additionally communicates with a battery module through a second interface in order to monitor and control the charging of the module. A low power secondary processor is interfaced to the keyboard controller through the second interface in order to receive keystroke information as well as information from the graphical pointing device. When the keyboard controller is instructed to do so, keystroke and graphical pointing information are conveyed exclusively to the secondary processor, thereby enabling the portable computing device to perform some functions without requiring the main central processing unit to be operational and thus operate in a low power mode.

Multiprocessor control apparatus, multiprocessor control method, and multiprocessor control circuit

An object of the invention is to reduce the electric power consumption resulting from temporarily activating a processor requiring a large electric power consumption, out of a plurality of processors. A multiprocessor system (1) includes: a first processor (141) which executes a first instruction code; a second processor (151) which executes a second instruction code, a hypervisor (130) which converts the second instruction code into an instruction code executable by the first processor (141); and a power control circuit (170) which controls the operation of at least one of the first processor (141) and the second processor (151). When the operation of the second processor (151) is suppressed by the power control circuit (170), the hypervisor (130) converts the second instruction code into the instruction code executable by the first processor (141), and the first processor (141) executes the converted instruction code.

Apparatus and method for controlling input power

An apparatus and method for controlling an input power according to power management modes of a display device. In a saving mode of the power management modes, a power supply to the system is turned OFF according to an organic operation between components of the system. Thus, because the power supply to a power block within the system is turned OFF all, a consumed power is in a substantially zero state, comparable to a state in which a power plug is physically pulled out.

Computer system for saving power consumption of a stand-by/power-off state and method thereof

A computer system consists of a plurality of electronic elements and a switch control circuit. The switch control circuit controls the computer system to enter a stand-by / power off state from a normal state when the computer system receives a stand-by / power off command under the normal state, and stops outputting a stand-by power having at least one stand-by voltage level to at least one part of electronic elements among the plurality of electronic elements. At this time, the computer system has entered a simulated mechanical off state from the stand-by / power off state. A number of electronic elements supplied by the stand-by power when the computer system lies under the simulated mechanical off state is smaller than a number of electronic elements supplied by the stand-by power when the computer system lies under the stand-by / power off state.

Communication device and power supply method

Provided is a communication device capable of efficiently performing a power supply control when reducing power consumption by reducing the time during which the power is supplied. In the device, a CPU power saving control unit (301) switches between a normal mode in which the power is supplied to a CPU (302) and a low power consumption mode in which the power supply is stopped at predetermined timing. A session management table (321) stores transmission intervals before and after conversion. An information conversion section (322) converts the transmission intervals of session maintenance messages according to a predetermined rule so that the transmission intervals of the session maintenance messages of respective protocols are mutually synchronized between the protocols. A control unit (323) controls the CPU power saving control unit (301) so as to transmit an appropriate session maintenance message at the transmission timing of a session maintenance message and also controls it so as to switch between the normal mode and the low power consumption mode at the predetermined timing.

Method of executing an application on a computer system, a resource manager and a high performance computer system

In an HPC system, a Resource Manager deliberately introduces heterogeneities to the execution speeds of some, but not all, of the nodes allocated to an application during the application's execution. These heterogeneities may cause changes to the amount of time spent waiting on coordination points: computation intensive applications will be most affected by these changes, IO bound applications less so. By monitoring wait time reports received from a Communications library, the Manager can discriminate between these two types of applications and suitable power states can be applied to the nodes allocated to the application. If the application is IO bound then nodes can be switched to a lower-power state to save energy. This can be applied at any point during application execution so that the hardware configuration can be adjusted to keep optimal efficiency as the application passes through phases with different energy use and performance characteristics.

Operation methods of communication node in network

An operation method of a communication node in an Ethernet-based vehicle network, the communication node including a regulator, a physical (PHY) layer unit, and a processor, includes outputting, by the processor, a first signal to initiate a supply of power to the communication node; outputting, by the processor, a second signal to initiate a transition of the communication node from a normal mode to a sleep mode; and transitioning, by the PHY layer unit, the communication node from the normal mode to the sleep mode when the second signal is received at the PHY layer unit from the processor.

Supply-Voltage Control for Device Power Management

One embodiment provides a method for reducing leakage current in device logic having an operational supply-voltage threshold, a nonzero data-retention supply voltage threshold, and two or more on-die transistor switches to switchably connect a voltage source to the device logic. After the logic enters an idle period, one or more of the switches are opened to lower a supply voltage oldie logic below the operational supply-voltage threshold hut above the data-retention supply-voltage threshold. When the logic exits the idle period, one or more, of the switches are closed to raise the supply voltage of the logic above the operational supply-voltage threshold.
