Apparatus of components and methods for connecting and sealing a pothead to an electrical cable used in an oil well environment, are provided. Electrical leads are anchored in insulating members retained within the pothead. The leads inserted into passages formed through the insulating members each having an elliptically shaped portion. Channels are formed along the surface of the passages and along the circumference of the elliptically shaped portions. Boot seals are provided in the elliptically shaped portions and circumscribe the electrical leads. A hydrocarbon-based liquid is applied to the boot seals to cause them to swell and occupy the space between the leads and the insulators, including the channels.

The present invention comprises an insulated container having a liner fitted therein. The liner is removable, reusable, and washable. The insulated container also has an insulated partition defining a pair of thermally isolated compartments to maintain different temperatures in each compartment. To secure the liner in place, a latch is provided, and to vent trapped air, the liner includes a channel. A pothead assembly for use under severe operating conditions. The pothead assembly includes a plurality of ferrules, a compression plate, a pothead housing, and a threaded collar. When the collar and a base portion of a pothead housing are engaged, the pothead assembly is operable to form a metal to metal seal on metal tubing that surrounds insulated wiring without the use of a solder joint or weld joint. The resulting pothead assembly has a lower profile than conventional potheads, does not require the use of tube connectors and is operable to form the seal in close proximity to the motor.

A method of creating a seal to gas around a power cable connection to a downhole electric submersible motor includes wrapping lead foil around a MLE extending through a pothead, continuing the lead foil wrapping around a gold-plated sleeve of an insulating block inside the pothead, mechanically reinforcing the lead foil with an encapsulant, and bonding the lead foil to the gold plating of the insulating block.
