A system for producing a simulated ground fault when arcing is present in an electrical circuit includes a sensor which monitors the electrical circuit. An arcing fault detection circuit determines whether an arcing fault is present in response to the sensor and produces a trip signal in response to a determination that an arcing fault is present in the electrical circuit. A ground fault simulator circuit produces a simulated ground fault in response to the trip signal.

An arc fault circuit interrupter system for use with an electrical circuit includes an arcing fault detector which monitors the electrical circuit and a controller which generates a trip signal in response to the detection of arcing faults. The controller may also generate one or more communication signals corresponding to information relating to the operation of the arcing fault circuit interrupter. The on-vehicle electronic control device includes a main power supply circuit fed with power from an on-vehicle battery through an output contact of a power supply relay and a main power supply terminal of a connector to supply a stabilized control voltage to a microprocessor. A time-synchronized trip implementation for a motor circuit protector (MCP) having a reconfigurable microcontroller. The microcontroller causes a power supply to, be charged for an initial time period during a charging mode. An onboard comparator is configured for a predetermined self-protection level of the MCP, and fault currents that exceed the comparator's threshold will directly drive a solenoid to trip the MCP. The microcontroller reconfigures the comparator's threshold to both measure and charge the power supply toward a stored energy trip voltage, which will charge quickly when high fault currents are present. As a result, self-protection is not compromised. After the trip voltage is reached, the microcontroller reconfigures the onboard comparator's threshold for self-protection trip levels. When a trip event occurs in this mode, stored energy trip activation occurs. The MCP includes user-selectable trip settings, and the microcontroller reconfigures the comparator threshold levels for user-selectable self-protection levels.

According to the present invention, it is possible to periodically test the electric leak breaker as well as to overcome an inconvenience to push a reset button.

Circuit interrupter positioned between supply circuit and load circuit includes fault detection circuit that senses wave forms to the load circuit, fault processing circuit that detects presence of fault and generates fault output signal when fault detected, and control circuit switch connected to fault processing signal output, wherein control circuit switch is opened by presence of fault output signal, thus isolating load circuit from supply circuit. A circuit breaker system for providing thermal protection to a conductor conducting current from a power source to a load. While the power source is connected to the load, a microcontroller is powered by the current passing through the conductor to thermally model the temperature of the conductor. If the microcontroller determines that the temperature of the conductor has risen to an undesirable or unsafe level, the circuit breaker disconnects the power source from the load and the current no longer passes through the conductor. With no current passing through the conductor, the microcontroller no longer receives power from the conductor. Instead, the microcontroller continues to model the temperature of the conductor as the conductor cools to an ambient temperature by receiving power from an energy storage device. Accordingly, the microcontroller continuously models the temperature of the conductor until the temperature of the conductor cools to the ambient temperature.

A power controller is positioned within a current path between the line side and the load side of an electrical circuit. The power controller closes the current path in the presence of a control supply and opens the current path in the absence of the control supply. A power supply electrically connected to the current path provides the control supply. The invention relates to an anti-interference electricity module in a bypass mode and a control method of the anti-interference electricity module. The anti-interference electricity module comprises a single-chip microcomputer, an electromagnetic relay, a solid-state relay, an energy storage capacitor set, an AC/DC switching power supply, a DC/DC power supply, a voltage conversion chip, an alternating voltage sampler and a state detector, wherein two ends of the alternating voltage sampler and two ends of the state detector are respectively in signal connection with a grid and the single-chip microcomputer. The input end and the output end of the AC/DC switching power supply are respectively and electrically connected with the grid and the energy storage capacitor set, and the output end of the energy storage capacitor set is electrically connected with the single-chip microcomputer and a contactor respectively through the voltage conversion chip and the DC/DC power supply. A normally closed contact of the electromagnetic relay is arranged on the grid, and a normally open contact of the electromagnetic relay and a normally open contact of the solid-state relay are connected in series on a direct current power supply loop. A circuit protection device includes a trip mechanism and at least one capacitor configured to store electrical energy and to provide the electrical energy to the trip mechanism. The circuit protection device also includes a controller communicatively coupled to the at least one capacitor and configured to measure a charge property of the at least one capacitor, compare the measured charge property to a threshold, and output a signal indicative of the comparison.

A method and system for supply voltage regulation in a motor circuit protector (MCP) that includes a current transformer coupled to a rectifier and a stored energy circuit. A solenoid is actuated by that circuit when a sufficient voltage is present. A controller having a configurable input is coupled to the stored energy circuit. Upon startup of the motor circuit protector, the controller causes the stored energy circuit to be charged to a startup voltage level via secondary current from the current transformer. The controller periodically interrupts the charging to measure the secondary current to detect fault levels. During startup, the configurable input is set to a comparator input for rapid current measurements. During run mode, the configurable input is set to an A/D input for accurate measurements. The controller measures the voltage of the stored energy circuit while charging it to a power level sufficient to actuate the solenoid.

A device for powering one or more electric/electronic devices operatively associated with a low-voltage circuit breaker takes energy from a power supply line. An electronic regulator receives the energy collected as an input and delivering as an output to the electric/electronic device a power supply voltage (Vout) having a value within a preset range with respect to a reference voltage (VR). The electronic regulator includes an energy storage device chargeable by the energy collected, at the terminals of which a voltage (VCL) is established that is indicative of the power supply voltage (Vout) delivered to the electric/electronic device. A circuit enables/disables the charging of the storage device, and a feedback circuit receives a signal indicative of the voltage (VCL) at the terminals of the storage device and sends a signal to the enabling/disabling circuit to trigger the disabling or enabling of the charging process in order to keep the value of the voltage at the terminals of the storage device within a preset range. The feedback circuit enables the charging phases so as to power the storage device continuously up until the value of the voltage at their terminals comes within the preset range.

There is disclosed a controller for power protection. The controller may comprise a switch for activating a power converter. The controller may comprise a circuit coupled with the switch. The circuit may open the switch when an input voltage decreases below a first voltage. The circuit may close the switch when the input voltage increases above a second voltage. The second voltage may be greater than the first voltage.

A trip device is for an electrical power breaker, for tripping on a short-circuit. It is embodied as an analogue electrical circuit. The circuit components and devices necessary for tripping on a short circuit form a discrete module, completely independent of other trip devices on the power breaker. A direct current is provided by transformers together with rectifiers which flows through a power semiconductor switched to conduct in the normal operating state of the power breaker. A measurement and control circuit is controlled by way of a voltage generated across a measuring resistance through which the direct current flows and closes the power semiconductor when a threshold value is exceeded. The current is then commutated from the power semiconductor to the trip magnet which opens the switch contacts with a particularly small delay.
