Arc fault detection system

An arc fault detector system detects arcing faults in an electrical distribution system by monitoring one or more conductors and producing an input signal representing one or more electrical signal conditions in the circuit to be monitored. This input signal is processed to develop signals representing the electrical current flow through the monitored circuit and broadband noise signal components. The system analyzes these signals to determine whether an arcing fault is present, and if so, outputs a trip signal which may be used directly or indirectly to trip a circuit breaker or other circuit interruption device.

Detection of arcing faults using bifurcated wiring system

A zone arc fault detection system for detecting arcing faults in a defined zone of an electrical circuit, such as an aircraft circuit, includes a pair of substantially identical parallel insulated conductors for each zone in which arcing is to be detected. A detection zone is defined by the parallel conductors between end points where the two conductors are coupled together. A current sensor is operatively associated with each pair of parallel conductors. The current sensor and conductors are respectively configured and arranged such that the current sensor produces a signal representative of a difference in current between the two conductors.

High speed phase frequency detector

Apparatus and methods detect missing clock edges. An improved phase frequency detector (PFD) can be used in, for example, a phase locked loop (PLL) or a delay locked loop (DLL). Conventional PFDs can miss clock edges. Disclosed is a missing clock edge detection circuit that reliably detects these missing clock edges to correctly activate switches of a charge pump of the PLL or DLL. Embodiments exhibit relatively little of the characteristic polarity reversal of conventional PLL or DLL circuits, which then enables embodiments to operate faster and acquire phase lock quicker than conventional circuits. Such techniques are useful in clock synthesis, clock recovery, and the like. The invention can further include an optional circuit that detects when the missing clock edge detection circuit may have inaccurately determined (false positive) that a clock edge had been missed, to override the corrective action by the missing clock edge detection circuit.

Close talk detector for noise cancellation

A close talk detection method and system is provided for active noise cancellation system on a cellular telephone or the like, based on two properly located microphones. Given the location of the microphones and the way people use the phone, the power ratio (difference) at the two microphones implies the location of the speaker within a given range. The improved close-talk detector is not affected by power levels or SNR of non-close-talk ambient disturbances. Power levels of both a voice and a reference microphone are measured and the ratio r of these power levels is determined. If the ratio r is greater than a predetermined threshold (e.g., 7 dB), then close talk is occurring. If the ratio r is less than the predetermined threshold, then the signal is determined to be loud ambient noise or some other non-close-talking signal and noise cancellation processing is not affected.

High-sensitivity surface detection system and method

An inspection system and method for inspecting a sample surface, with a light source for generating a probe beam of light, a high NA lens for focusing the probe beam onto a sample surface, and collecting a scattered probe beam from the sample surface, optics for imaging the scattered probe beam onto a detector having a plurality of detector elements that generate output signals in response to the scattered probe beam, and a processor for analyzing the output signals to identify defects on the sample surface. Shaping the beam into a stripe shape increases intensity without sacrificing throughput. Offsetting the beam from the center of the high NA lens provides higher angle illumination. Crossed polarizers also improve signal quality. A homodyne or heterodyne reference beam (possibly using a frequency altering optical element) can be used to create an interferometric signal at the detector for improved signal to noise ratios.

Monitoring of atrial activation

The invention relates to a method and system for monitoring atrial activation in a patient. In the method, a moment of occurrence and a wave form are predicted for a subsequent P wave based on a sequence of P waves already received in ECG signal data obtained from the patient. The process of the invention then checks whether the said subsequent P wave really occurs in the ECG signal data within a first time window around the predicted moment of occurrence. If this is the case, the process further monitors whether the said P wave is followed by a QRS complex in the ECG signal data.
