75 results about "Degraded mode" patented technology

When a RAID array experiences the failure of one or more disks, it can enter degraded mode, a fallback mode that generally allows the continued usage of the array, but either loses the performance boosts of the RAID technique (such as a RAID-1 mirror across two disks when one of them fails; performance will fall back to that of a normal, single drive) or experiences severe performance penalties due to the necessity to reconstruct the damaged data from error correction data.

Apparatus, system, and method for differential rebuilding of a reactivated offline RAID member disk

An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for rebuilding only changed stripes of an offline member disk in a RAID array that is configured with redundancy and no hot standby disk. A work-in-progress (“WIP”) map tracks the changed stripes of the offline member disk prior to a reactivation and records the completion of the differential rebuilding (“DR”) process on the stripes. The DR process shortens the duration of a degraded mode of operation entered into by a logical drive formed when the RAID array experiences a member disk failure that results in one member disk being designated as offline.

Control system architecture for a multi-component armament system

The present invention is a Control System Architecture (CSA) for a multi-component armament system. The CSA provides dynamic reconfiguration of multiple nodes (e.g. a component, a subsystem, or a virtual simulation) in a Simulation-Emulation-Stimulation (SES) environment utilizing redundant client-server bus configuration of the nodes in a hierarchical model. The CSA provides for ease of configuration of nodes for any specific application, automated system reconfiguration capabilities to detect and bypass failed nodes or re-group available remaining nodes in the event of degraded mode operation, and expansion and / or downsizing of nodes without requiring a modification to the overall system architecture.

Increasing through-put of a storage controller by autonomically adjusting host delay

A data storage control unit is coupled to one or more host devices and to one or more physical storage units, the physical storage units collectives configured as a plurality of logical storage ranks. The storage control unit receives and processes write requests from the host devices and directs that data updates be stored in a temporary storage. The data updates are subsequently destaged to the logical ranks. Write requests are processed at a predetermined rate relative to the rate at which destages are performed (destage mode or rate). The storage control unit evaluates workload conditions of the temporary storage and modifies the destage mode if the temporary storage is in danger of becoming backlogged or if an actual backlog is created, thereby applying a “throttle” to the host write requests. Thus, method, apparatus and program product are provided to dynamically modify a level of throttling whereby through-put of a host device is substantially maintained.

On-off output channel redundancy fault-tolerant control method and redundancy on-off output channels

The invention discloses an on-off output channel redundancy fault-tolerant control method which is applied to three redundancy on-off output channels of a digital electro-hydraulic control system (DEH) module. The method comprises the steps of enabling input ends of the on-off output channels to receive control signals sent by a field programmable gate array (FPGA), processing the control signals to obtain output signals, and enabling the output signals to be in parallel connection with redundancies respectively through diodes; enabling the on-off output channels to judge whether faults occur inside or outside the on-off output channels in a self-checking read-back mode; presetting a degradation mode, and outputting output quantity according to the degradation mode when the faults occur. According to the method, through three independent redundancy on-off output channels, the degradation mode is set, the faults inside or outside the channels are effectively judged through the self-checking read-back mechanism, and stability in the running process is guaranteed. The invention further discloses the redundancy on-off output channels, and fault-tolerant capability of a whole system is greatly improved.

Data processing method and device for disk array

The invention provides data processing method and device for a disk array. The method comprises the following steps of: orderly reading each set of strip data in each non-fault disk into a first solid hard disk of which the preset storage capacity is at least two sets of strip data; while reading the strip data to the first solid hard disk, orderly reconstructing the read strip data in each set in the first solid hard disk, and writing the data acquired by reconstruction into a hot spare disk; and when the strip data in the first solid hard disk reaches a preset storage capacity, orderly reading the strip data in each set in each non-fault disk into the first solid hard disk to cover the reconstructed strip data in the first solid hard disk. By introducing multiple sets of strip data into the RAID5 disk array, when the disk array is in the degrading mode, the SSD hard disk is used as a cache for prefetching the data in the non-fault disk, thereby enhancing the reconstruction speed of the disk array and reducing the risk of second disk failure in the degrading mode.

Partial data storage device failures and improved storage resiliency

A mass data storage system including a data storage device comprising block groups each comprising a plurality of data blocks determines when one of the block groups is faulty and the data storage device continues to operate as a partially failed data storage device with respect to the remaining block groups which are not faulty. A striped parity data storage device array comprises data storage devices capable of operating as partially failed data storage devices allows copying of data from the block groups not associated with determined to be faulty of a partially failed data storage device to a spare data storage device which reduces the amount of data that must be rebuilt in the rebuild process, thereby reducing the amount of time the array spends in degraded mode exposed to a total loss of data caused by a subsequent data storage device failure.

High-availability computer cluster with failover support based on a resource map

Embodiments of the invention relate to handling failures in a cluster of computer resources. The resources are represented as nodes in a dependency graph in which some nodes are articulation points and the removal of any articulation point due to a resource failure results in a disconnected graph. The embodiments perform a failover when a resource corresponding to an articulation point fails. The failover is to a local resource if the failed resource does not affect all local resources. The failover is to a remote resource if no local resource can meet all resource requirements of the failed resource, and to a remote resource running in a degraded mode if the remote resource cannot meet all of the requirements.
