Method of scanning for beacon transmissions in a WLAN

A wireless station (114) is within range of more than one access point (120, 124) transmitting on the same channel. The wireless station is associated with one access point and not the other. Consequently the wireless station may receive undesired beacons (304) and desired beacons (302) on the channel. To optimize power save operation the wireless station arbitrates between a scan and shut down scanning procedure (708) and a timed window channel scanning procedure (724), depending on whether the desired beacon is the first received beacon upon waking up from a low power state at a target beacon time.

Check bit free error correction for sleep mode data retention

A DRAM memory has a reduced refresh rate in a sleep mode to conserve power. Error Correction Codes (ECC) are used to correct errors that may arise due to the reduced refresh rate. ECC encoding occurs at the time of entering the sleep mode and ECC decoding for error detection and correction need only take place upon wake up when resuming active mode. In addition, the memory system reassigns a portion of the memory for storing the additional parity bits required for the error correcting code (ECC).

Low Power Based LTE Receiver Architecture

Providing a power-saving mode for control channel monitoring in discontinuous reception (DRX) scenarios. Upon waking from a sleep mode at the conclusion of a DRX off period, a baseband modem may transition to a low-power mode configured to receive and decode only a control channel, such as a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH). If the control channel indicates during a DRX on period that communication traffic will be transmitted to the baseband modem, then the baseband modem may transition to a full-power mode to receive the communication traffic. Otherwise, the baseband modem may transition back to the sleep mode. The low-power mode may be implemented by a dedicated set of hardware configured to draw less power than a full set of hardware configured to implement the high-power mode.

System and method for assisted network acquisition and search updates

A method and system provide assisted acquisition of a wireless link between user equipment and a femtocell unit. After an initial calibration of timing and / or frequency information, the user equipment enters into a low-power state. The femtocell unit monitors for system updates using a network listen module that sniffs the air interface of one or more neighboring cells. Upon a trigger event, the femtocell unit provides aiding information, for example, timing and / or frequency information corresponding to a change in timing and / or frequency of the air interface, over a second radio, e.g., a wireless personal area network interface. Thus, the user equipment may remain in the low-power state and receive updates with respect to the wireless wide area network interface. Subsequently, upon wake-up, the user equipment may utilize the aiding information, for example, to recalibrate its timing and / or frequency. Thus, acquisition of the wireless link with the femtocell unit may be expedited.

Interface for a system and method for evaluating task effectiveness based on sleep pattern

A method for evaluating the effectiveness of a person to perform a task based on his / her previous or predicted sleep activity is provided. The method can be used to predict changes in task effectiveness at any time of day, based upon numerous patterns of sleep and activity, either experienced or planned for the future. The method takes into account progressive increases in sleep deprivation, the effects of the time of day on performance, and changes in the time when a person sleeps and works. The method also accounts for the quality of a sleep interval and a person's sleep inertia, the temporary slowing of performance immediately after awakening. The method is homeostatic. Gradual decreases in sleep debt decrease sleep intensity. Progressive increases in sleep debt produced by extended periods of less than optimal levels of sleep lead to increased sleep intensity. As a result the method can predict the normal decline in sleep intensity during the sleep period and the normal equilibrium of performance under less than optimal schedules of sleep.

System and method for decoding and behaviorally validating memory consolidation during sleep from EEG after waking experience

Described is a system for decoding and validating memory consolidation. During operation, the system receives electroencephalographic (EEG) data while a subject is performing a specific task. Nuisance signals are then removed from the EEG data, resulting in a nuisance free signal. Skill feature vectors are generated from the nuisance free signal using time-invariant feature extraction. A skill classifier can then be trained for the specific task based on the skill feature vectors to generate a subject specific model regarding a memory replay for the specific task. Finally, electrodes in a neural cap are activated based on the memory replay.

Fast wakeup for crystal oscillator

Techniques for fast wakeup for crystal oscillator circuits are described. Embodiments operate in the context of a crystal oscillator coupled to a phase locked loop (PLL). For example, prior to entering a sleep mode, the embodiment retains a previously obtained coarse code for coarse tuning the voltage controlled oscillator of the PLL. Upon waking up, the PLL is configured in a chirp mode, whereinthe retained coarse code and a scan voltage are used to generate a chirp signal at a target excitation frequency of the crystal oscillator or at a frequency close to the target excitation frequency. The chirp signal can be used to inject energy into the crystal oscillator such that the crystal oscillator transitions from the sleep mode to a steady state oscillation mode relatively quickly.
