Systems for controlling a droplet microactuator are provided. According to one embodiment, a system is provided and includes a controller, a droplet microactuator electronically coupled to the controller, and a display device displaying a user interface electronically coupled to the controller, wherein the system is programmed and configured to permit a user to effect a droplet manipulation by interacting with the user interface. According to another embodiment, a system is provided and includes a processor, a display device electronically coupled to the processor, and software loaded and/or stored in a storage device electronically coupled to the controller, a memory device electronically coupled to the controller, and/or the controller and programmed to display an interactive map of a droplet microactuator. According to yet another embodiment, a system is provided and includes a controller, a droplet microactuator electronically coupled to the controller, a display device displaying a user interface electronically coupled to the controller, and software for executing a protocol loaded and/or stored in a storage device electronically coupled to the controller, a memory device electronically coupled to the controller, and/or the controller.

A droplet actuator with cartridge is provided. An improved process for the preparation of high molecular weight, linear polyester resins comprises reacting an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with an excess of an alkane diol under conditions effective to reach the clearing point of the reaction; pre-condensing the cleared reaction mixture under conditions effective to produce oligomers having an intrinsic viscosity measured in 60/40 phenol/1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane at 25° C. of less than about 0.70 deciliters/gram and a carboxylic acid end group level of less than or equal to about 100 milliequivalents per kilogram; and polycondensing the oligomer under conditions effective to produce a linear polyester resin having an intrinsic viscosity less than or equal to about 2.0 dl/g as measured in 60/40 phenol/1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane by weight at 25° C. and a carboxylic acid end group level of about 10 to about 40 milliequivalents per kilogram.

A substrate processing apparatus for processing substrates prevents the substrates from contaminating as they are transferred. The apparatus includes a container, like a FOUP, for containing substrates, at least one processing chamber where the substrates are processed, a substrate transferring module including a substrate transfer chamber and at least one load port for supporting a container, and a contamination controlling system for the substrate transfer chamber. The contamination controlling system includes a purge gas supply inlet connected to the substrate transfer chamber, and a gas circulating tube for recycling the purging gas to circulate through the chamber. The substrate transfer chamber is purged using the purging gas to remove moisture and contaminating materials from the substrate transfer chamber. The formation of particles on the substrate otherwise caused by a reaction between the moisture and contaminating materials while the substrate is standing by in the container can be prevented.

The present invention is directed to a power converter that can be used to interface a motor 4 that requires variable voltage at variable frequency to a supply network (bus) providing a nominally fixed voltage and nominally fixed frequency. The power converter includes a first active rectifier/inverter 10 electrically connected to the stator of the motor 4 and a second active rectifier/inverter 14. Both the first and second active rectifier/inverters include a plurality of semiconductor power switching devices. A dc link 12 is connected between the first active rectifier/inverter and the second active rectifier/inverter. A filter 16 is connected between the second active rectifier/inverter and the supply network and includes network terminals. The power converter includes a first controller 18 for the first active rectifier/inverter and a second controller 20 for the second active rectifier/inverter. The first controller 18 uses a dc link voltage demand signal VDC_MOT* indicative of a desired dc link voltage to control the semiconductor power switching devices of the first active rectifier/inverter 10 to achieve the desired level of dc link voltage that corresponds to the dc link voltage demand signal. The second controller 20 uses a power demand signal P* indicative of the level of power to be transferred to the dc link 12 from the supply network (bus) through the second active rectifier/inverter 14, and a voltage demand signal VBUS* indicative of the voltage to be achieved at the network terminals of the filter 16 to control the semiconductor power switching devices of the second active rectifier/inverter 14 to achieve the desired levels of power and voltage that correspond to the power and voltage demand signals. There is disclosed an apparatus for controlling the processing load of a scalable video decoder that decodes an incoming scalable video bit stream and generates a baseband video signal. The apparatus comprises: 1) an analyzer circuit for measuring at least one characteristic of the incoming scalable video bit stream and generating at least one video parameter associated with the at least one characteristic; and 2) a processor load controller for receiving the at least one video parameter and, in response thereto, controlling a level of decoding of the incoming scalable video bit stream performed by the scalable video decoder.

A low energy process for producing acetic acid by the carbonylation of methanol is disclosed. The process involves a rhodium-catalyzed system operated at less than about 14% water utilizing up to 2 distillation columns. The process is preferably controlled such that the product stream has a low level of propionic acid impurity and the level of aldehyde impurities is minimized by way of aldehyde removal or minimizing aldehyde generation. The level of iodides is controlled by contacting the product, at elevated temperatures, with ion exchange resins. In preferred embodiments, at least one silver or mercury exchanged macroreticular strong acid ion exchange resin is used to purify the product. The high temperature treatment provides the added benefit of controlling the Color Value (Pt-Co units) of the product stream.
