Microprocessors

A processor (100) is provided that is a programmable fixed point digital signal processor (DSP) with variable instruction length, offering both high code density and easy programming. Architecture and instruction set are optimized for low power consumption and high efficiency execution of DSP algorithms, such as for wireless telephones, as well as pure control tasks. The processor includes an instruction buffer unit (106), a program flow control unit (108), an address / data flow unit (110), a data computation unit (112), and multiple interconnecting busses. Dual multiply-accumulate blocks improve processing performance. A memory interface unit (104) provides parallel access to data and instruction memories. The instruction buffer is operable to buffer single and compound instructions pending execution thereof. A decode mechanism is configured to decode instructions from the instruction buffer. The use of compound instructions enables effective use of the bandwidth available within the processor. A soft dual memory instruction can be compiled from separate first and second programmed memory instructions. Instructions can be conditionally executed or repeatedly executed. Bit field processing and various addressing modes, such as circular buffer addressing, further support execution of DSP algorithms. The processor includes a multistage execution pipeline with pipeline protection features. Various functional modules can be separately powered down to conserve power. The processor includes emulation and code debugging facilities with support for cache analysis.

Optical reader aiming assembly comprising aperture

An imaging module in one embodiment includes an aiming system having a light source, an aperture and an optical element positioned optically forward of the aperture wherein the aiming system projects a crisp and sharp aiming pattern onto a target over a wide range of distances. In one embodiment, an aiming system is configured so that a lens operates as an aperture to project a crisp sharp aiming pattern over a wide range of distances including distances at which the aiming pattern is less than optimally focused. In another embodiment an aiming system is configured so that light emanating from a thin aperture is imaged in such manner that a crisp, sharp aiming pattern is defined over a wide range of distances. The aiming pattern in one embodiment includes sharply defined lateral edges which are useful in sighting target indicia.

System and method for mining data

A system and method for extracting data, hereinafter referred to as MitoMine, that produces a strongly-typed ontology defined collection referencing (and cross referencing) all extracted records. The input to the mining process can be any data source, such as a text file delimited into a set of possibly dissimilar records. MitoMine contains parser routines and post processing functions, known as ‘munchers’. The parser routines can be accessed either via a batch mining process or as part of a running server process connected to a live source. Munchers can be registered on a per data-source basis in order to process the records produced, possibly writing them to an external database and / or a set of servers. The present invention also embeds an interpreted ontology based language within a compiler / interpreter (for the source format) such that the statements of the embedded language are executed as a result of the source compiler ‘recognizing’ a given construct within the source and extracting the corresponding source content. In this way, the execution of the statements in the embedded program will occur in a sequence that is dictated wholly by the source content. This system and method therefore make it possible to bulk extract free-form data from such sources as CD-ROMs, the web etc. and have the resultant structured data loaded into an ontology based system.

Transaction card

The present invention relates to a process for producing an opaque, transparent or translucent transaction card having multiple features, such as a holographic foil, integrated circuit chip, silver magnetic stripe with text on the magnetic stripe, opacity gradient, an invisible optically recognizable compound, a translucent signature field such that the signature on back of the card is visible from the front of the card and an active thru date on the front of the card. The invisible optically recognizable compound is an infrared ink and / or film, which can be detected by a sensor found in an ATM or card assembly line.

Optical reader comprising finely adjustable lens assembly

An imaging module in one embodiment is adapted so that a position of a lens assembly can be finely adjusted relative to a position of an image sensor. A retainer and lens assembly according to the invention are complimentary configured so that the lens assembly is slidably received in the retainer. The retainer include in one embodiment two apertures defined in sidewalls thereof. The first aperture accommodates a fixture pin for use in finely adjusting the position of the lens assembly within the retainer. The second aperture accommodates an adhesive material for adhesively bonding the lens assembly to the retainer. Adhesive material may further be applied in the first aperture.

Contacting device for a chip card and in particular for a SIM card

There is provided a contacting device (1) for chip cards, preferably for SIM cards, comprising a base (2), a slider (12) arranged at the base (2) and being movable with respect to the base (2), the chip card (4) being slidable between an insert / removal position and a reading position by means of said slider, and means (7, 22) for inhibiting removal of the slider from the contacting device (1). Preferably, the slider (12) is slidably mounted to the base (2) and is in abutting engagement with an abutment in the insert / removal position such that the slider (12) cannot be removed from the contacting device (1), i.e. the slider (12) cannot be moved beyond the insert / removal position. Thus, the contacting device does not comprise any loose parts that could get lost. In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a contacting device (1) for a chip card (4) comprising a stationary base (2) and a movable slider (12), wherein a chip card (4) is slidable between an insert / removal position and a reading position, wherein a metal cover (24) is fixedly mounted to the contacting device (1) and for providing support for the chip card (4) for providing counter-forces taking up contacting forces between contacting elements of the contacting device (1) and contacting pads of the chip card. Preferably, the contacting device (1) has a card plenum (11) for receiving the chip card (4), and the metal cover (24) spans the card plenum (11) as well as the slider (12) and extends around the sides of the base (2). By using a metal cover, a particularly small thickness is possible for this component. Further, the metal cover is easy to manufacture and to assemble.

Data processing form using a scanning apparatus

This invention is directed to an optical mark sensing device known as a mark read scanner for reading marks on a form. This scanner is a stand-alone device that has an internal micro-controller with the controlling software therein. An external personal computer is not required to operate the scanner in its intended manner. "Graphic switches" are printed on the form to define the characteristics of a form to be scanned. The expense of replacing the internal program of a scanner when a user requests a variation of a test form that had not been pre-programmed into the original specifications of the scanner is eliminated.
